Hi Mary,
Just wanted to say thanks so much, we had a nice time in Edisto. :-) I appreciate someone who allows dogs, of the 3 we took along, one of them LOVED the ocean. She jumped around in the water like a little kangaroo! I've attached a few pictures - of some trees at the resort, a heron, a woodpecker on the resort, and kangaroo dog - four in a row that are a funny sight. We also saw a wood stork flying around! The pictures are from far away...but it was for sure a stork!

We had a great time at the resort retreat, good value for the money, close to everything! The lagoons right outside are very beautiful, and the entire Edisto Island is such a relaxing place to stay. Will return!
Owner response:We always enjoy our guests but must admit we take great pleasure in our couples who choose to spend their honeymoon in our "Retreat". The little kitchen and deck and the close proximity to the restaurants, the lagoons, golf course and pool really do make it perfect for a honeymoon or a vacation to get away from everything at a more than reasonable rate. One of our honeymooners confessed to us they never even got back in the car after they arrived; they just walked to the restaurant and enjoyed their meals, walked the short walk to the pool and went swimming and walked to the beach and relaxed the entire week! They even called the pizza shop and had their pizza delivered to them and enjoyed it on their deck with their "beverage" of choice. We feel honored to be able to provide this for our guests! We do try to keep our rate a great value and are so very pleased you enjoyed your honeymoon; we hope to see you come back again every year!

A whole week at the beach for my wife, myself and our two kids for less than 800?! Wonderful!!!

I can't tell you how nice it was in this economy to have been able to take my wife and kids to the beach. The villa is very cozy (my wife's words) and when the kids were asleep my wife and I went out and sat on the deck and enjoyed a bottle of wine together every night. We thought about cooking since there is a two burner cooktop and a microwave there but ultimately just went to the Waterfront and had a great meal just about every night; they are quite inexpensive and their appetizer portions actually filled us up the first night so we went back night after night and had those great fried oysters and fried shrimp appetizers and the kids did too! We purchased the amenities pass for my wife and I for the entire week for just 80 bucks and our kids were 6 and under so they were free! We were able to use the pools, the playground, the tram, the beach cabana, the putt putt course and my wife and I even tried to play tennis since it was included in the pass. We decided to enjoy a beer together instead on the park bench; tennis is a lot of work! We had a wonderful time; we thank Richard and Mary for "babysitting" us when we couldn't get the wi-fi to work. (Seems it helps to actually connect your computer and not just expect it to jump up in front of you!) . Thanks also for letting us bring our "fur-baby" with us; it made the kids vacation to have him with them. We've made reservations for August and can't wait! Jason Sando
Owner response:You are very welcome, Joe; it is for guests like you that we share our home. We try our best to stay affordable so small families like yourself or a husband and wife or two couples can still go on vacation to the beach! We think the queen size bed and the queen size futon bed is just perfect for just that! We have thought about putting a "regular" sofa in but then our guest's wouldn't be able to bring their children or two couples couldn't go to the beach together and after surveying our guests were quickly outvoted! So we will leave it where we can sleep 4 comfortably. Come back soon!
Recommended for:Families with young children, pet owners, tourists without a car, age 55+, romantic getaway.

We stayed here during the middle part of May 2011. We were very satisfied with the location and the location description was as stated. The listing photos depict a unit in better repair than this one is. I have no idea why I paid the cleaning fee. We had to sweep and vacuum the floor, several times(3) to remove the loose dirt and what looked to be pet hair.Very disappointing. We had to replace light bulbs in the bathroom and the living area. The primary electrical outlet in the living area did not wrok and I would have felt unsafe using it as it was hanging out of the wall. Describing this as a full kitchen is stretching the concept. The two burner cook top had one burner which worked. When turned on, the heating coil would expand and tip up on one side It would have been special to have either a strainer drain for the half sink or a dish pan so my wife would not have had to use a stock pot for the dishwater. Since there was no oven baking or broiling food was out of the question, The sliding door to the patio had no working latch/lock or screen. I realize the 2X4 works well for a lock, but really. The windows could not be opened, therefore the cool night air could not be enjoyed at all. The deck if one would descibe it as such was barely large enough for two people and two chairs. very disappointing. The sliding door and the entry door really need to be adjusted to keep the roaches from crawling in underneath. The ammenities (swimming pools, tram and boardwalk)) which were to be provided with the rental were non-existant. We were told the ammenity arrangement with the resort had changed but we were not informed of this. We did enjoy our vacation and the Edisto area. We will be back. We realize we did not spend a huge sum for the accomodations but this was very disappointing. We will never rent from this owner again anywhere in the world
Owner response:This is the first we heard of this; At NO time did you contact us and notify us of any complaints whatsoever; why not? We would have had them rectified immediately! If the cleaning was not to your satisfaction we would have had the cleaning company come back in and if the maintenance issues were a problem we would have had the maintenance man address them. We sincerely hate to have unsatisfied customers and have had many many happy customers enjoy our resort retreat before and after your stay. No home is ever perfect but we do try our best to make it so! We can not however refund money to guests after they have stayed in our home and not contacted us to address their complaints. The stove works fine; we just went and checked to make sure since we have had two guests enjoy their vacations since this guest with no calls. The amenities are not included nor did we ever say they were. We did offer since they were guests for 8 nights to provide an amenities pass for one night and have no idea who told them the amenity arrangement had changed? Perhaps he went to the amenities center (which is not owned by the owners but by the resort) and talked to them but he did not contact us at all about it. We provide our telephone number in several places and our email address and respond promptly to our guests. The deck is fully demonstrated in the photos and is perfect for two guests to sit on and enjoy their coffee. Our "Resort Retreat" is a cozy villa that many, many guests have enjoyed; one of whom just enjoyed their honeymoon there! Had you given us the opportunity we would have made sure your challenges were immediately addressed which is all we can do.
