Bear Valley cabin description
Tyler’s Cabin is a remote and secluded 2-story mountain cabin situated on 5 acres of pristine wilderness, at the end of a private road. It's hard to imagine, but unpopulated places like this DO still exist in the Sierras - where you can go for days without seeing or hearing anyone and your dog can be off leash! Your own little private piece of paradise - just you and the great outdoors.
The cabin is surrounded by pine trees and a wildflower-filled meadow. Two sides of the forested property back up to U.S. Forest Service land, so the cabin's location places you smack in the middle of your own personal sanctuary. The cabin is perfect for a peaceful romantic getaway, a family vacation, a writer and artist's retreat, or just a place to go to get away from it all and enjoy nature in all its splendor.
The cabin sleeps 6 adults comfortably. Upstairs you’ll find 2 semi-private sleeping areas divided by a staircase (each side has a Sealy queen-sized bed), a ½ bath (toilet, sink and vanity). Downstairs you’ll find one queen sized sofa bed in the living room (next to fireplace), and one queen sized sofa bed in the private back bedroom which has recently been upgraded to a bedroom/entertainment room combo complete with flat screen T.V. and extensive video library. A LOPI woodstove in the living room has forced electric heat which keeps the cabin toasty during those crisp mountain nights. There is a full bath (toilet/commode/shower) downstairs across from the washer and dryer. Overstuffed chairs flank the fireplace, and are a perfect spot to curl up with a good book. Outside, the front and back decks and the lounge chairs provide privacy, serenity, bird watching, reading, barbecuing, sunbathing or doing absolutely nothing. There’s even a rock fire pit off the back deck for roasting marshmallows and hot dogs under a star-filled summer sky. The meadow areas surrounding the cabin are perfect for throwing a ball for your furry friend.
The cabin is fully stocked with everything from linens to spices. The kitchen comes complete with condiments, herbs, baking supplies, pots, pans, utensils, and all modern appliances – even a rice cooker and espresso machine! All of our supplies and toiletries are offered to our guests on a use-and-enjoy basis.
The cabin is wired throughout for high speed internet access, so using your laptop or IPad anywhere in the cabin is a breeze. Additionally, there is a full “office” area upstairs, which includes guest access to a computer, fax/copy/scanner, and a cordless phone/answer machine. For entertainment you'll find a 40' flat screen TV and DVD player downstairs, as well as an iPod docking station in the living room to enjoy your favorite music.
The cabin is ideally situated 4 hours east of the Bay Area (just off Hwy 4) in one of the last remaining unspoiled wilderness areas of the high Sierras. It is also just 45 miles east of Murphys, 22 miles east of Arnold, 1.5 miles from the town of Bear Valley, and 3.5 miles from Lake Alpine. Even though the cabin is less than a mile off Hwy 4, you feel like you’re hundreds of miles away from civilization.
In Bear Valley your kids can attend Bear Valley summer camp (http://www.bearvalley.com/summer-camps-2013)! The whole family can dine seasonally at several different eateries ranging from gourmet to pizza. You can sip a drink at the Grizzly Cafe and Creekside Restaurant located in the historic Bear Valley Lodge, stock up on supplies at the General Store (circa 1850), rent kayaks and mountain bikes, attend the Bear Valley Music Festival (http://www.bearvalleymusicfestival.org) work up a good sweat at the annual “Death Ride” over Ebbett’s Pass, rock climb, hike hundreds of miles of trails (portions of the Pacific Crest Trail, the Emigrant Trail, and the breathtaking Carson/Iceberg Wilderness), grab a strong cup of coffee and fresh baked goods at the BV Cafe, go geocaching, climb to the top of one of the numerous peaks and take in the awe-inspiring views of the Dardanelles, Ebbett’s Pass, Inspiration Point, and even Yosemite's Half Dome (on a clear day.)
Just 3.5 miles from the cabin sits granite-surrounded Lake Alpine where Canadian geese roost, and ospreys, golden and bald eagles have been spotted. The lake has a strict 10 mph speed limit for all boats – so it’s quiet and perfect for bird watching, sun bathing, paddle boarding, kayaking and canoeing. There are even some sandy beaches for little swimmers. Anglers can fish for rainbow trout, and the lake gets stocked with full-sized fish on a regular basis throughout the summer and fall months. We’ll share our favorite fishing spots with you, and what the fish are gobbling up. You can rent paddle boats, canoes, and small aluminum motor boats. At the end of your day you can enjoy a meal or drink at the Lake Alpine Lodge Restaurant and Bar. To help with your outdoor summer fun, we provide fishing poles, fishing tackle, a (blow up) kayak, canoe (w/life jackets), fanny packs, back packs, and ice chests.
The cabin is 22 miles east of Arnold, and a little further away you'll find historic Murphys and Angels Camp. There's a little something for everyone in each of those areas: antiquing, exploring caves, zip-lining across a canyon, wine tasting at numerous wineries, enjoying an outdoor concert at Ironstone Vineyards (http://www.ironstonevineyards.com), or even horseback riding.
Tyler's cabin is the perfect blend: You can be away from it all, or be right in the middle of high mountain action-packed fun. The only thing missing from Tyler's cabin is YOU.

Beautiful Mountain Getaway!
Beautiful Mountain Getaway!
We had such a good time in the cabin, we did not want to leave! The eight days felt like only four. We were looking for quiet and seclusion, and that is exactly what we found here. Perfect!! I don’t really know what could have been done to make or stay more enjoyable; everything was top notch!! The owners strive to provide first class accommodations and overall rental experience. When trying to think of anything negative, we are struggling, as there was nothing bad about it. This is a wonderful cabin on a beautiful piece of property! Plenty of hiking right out the front door! The video library was nice – we used it. Also read several books while there; nice to have the books about local Sierra area. In my opinion, it is a big plus that condiments and baking supplies are supplied if needed. We brought everything, including coffee, but forgot to bring sugar….so we used some that was there. We brought our dog beds with us, but both our girls would use Tyler’s beds at different times as well. It was really nice to rent a place where owners have taken the time to ensure the dogs are comfortable as well! They were so happy to be outside and running free through the woods – lots of puppy prancing! Laura & John have obviously put the effort into ensuring a enjoyable stay for all, and they have done an outstanding job! Thank you again! We will definitely be back! If you are looking to relax in the mountains, look no further - this is THE place!!!

A Perfect Honeymoon
A Perfect Honeymoon
My wife and I decided on Tyler's Cabin for our honeymoon location. We were looking for something romantic, beautiful, and secluded, and we found it. In short, Tyler's cabin was perfect. The cabin itself had all the necessary amenities, and maintained a peaceful, rustic feel. Situated in the middle of multiple acres of forest, my wife and I spent an afternoon just exploring the property, reveling in the wilderness and marveling in its beauty. We must have wandered for hours, and only once barely caught a glimpse of another cabin through the trees, so that gives you an idea of how perfectly secluded the cabin is. During our stay, we pulled ourselves away from the rustic beauty and comfort of the cabin to visit the local attractions: the quaint town of Arnold (make sure you supply here before you get to the cabin), the quiet (at least during the summer) Bear Valley Resort, the majestic and serene Lake Alpine (you will want to hike up to the summit on the far side of the lake from Highway 4), and the Pacific Crest Trail. It has long been a dream of mine to do the PCT in its entirety, but this was my first opportunity to hike even a section of it. The four miles of the PCT that we hiked in the Ebbett's Pass region were, far and away, the most beautiful four miles of awe-inspiring scenic majesty that I have ever experienced. If you hike north from where the PCT crosses highway, the Kinney Lakes are a great lunch spot. If you looking for a romantic getaway or a secluded and peaceful place to relax and recharge (or both), Tyler's Cabin is absolutely the place to go. My wife and I could not have been happier. Without hyperbole, I literally cannot imagine a more perfect honeymoon than our experience at Tyler's Cabin. And our two dogs loved it too!

Lost in the Stanislaus Forest
Lost in the Stanislaus Forest
We had a perfect stay at the Tyler's cabin this summer. The ojective was to spend a week-end in the middle of the nature and we got it! The cabin is set among magnificent trees on a nice little meadow. We could accomodate our family of 6 comfortably. It is very well equiped and conveniently located close to the Lake Alpine that is a perfect place to relax and also the start for a lot of nice hikes. Also, I have to add that the owner provided us with everything we needed to spend a good time there.

We are still raving about Tyler's Cabin a month after our 5 day stay there in mid-July. It was perfect. Laura and John have thought of everything to make the cabin functional, comfortable and pleasing without any sense of fussiness. The decks looking out into the forest were spectacular, the fans helped cool the upstairs bedrooms when the days were hot, and the kitchen had everything we could have needed--and we cooked every night. The owners shared their phone, much of their staples, and provided things like shampoo and bug spray and charcoal. They also made themselves available by phone or email both before and during our stay. We've rented many homes. Tyler's Cabin was rare in that we were certain we would love it before we got there; the communication with Laura was that clear and easy. We walked to the second meadow, swam and walked at Alpine Lake (where we saw a pair of Bald Eagles, a thrilling first for both of us!), poked around the 5 acres with our ecstatic dogs, and did a lot of reading and gazing while enjoying the quiet. It was a magical time, and we hope to return.

A friend an I spent a week at the cabin and had a wonderful time. We needed to do some work, for which the cabin was ideal as it was quiet and peaceful. But we also found plenty to do in the area, such as Lake Alpine, Inspiration Point and the wineries. Murphys is actually a nice little town, although you would not know it passing through on 4. Everything went very smoothly and we enjoyed the mountains and woods thoroughly!

Camping Experience With Modern Creature ComfortsGuest comment entered by owner
Camping Experience With Modern Creature Comforts
We had a very good time. We spent a couple of days going to Lake Alpine (we had our own inflatable boat we used, so didn't make use of yours, but it was nice that you have those available for use), the lake is beautiful and surprisingly warm. The fact that it has the low speed limit really helps to make it a family friendly lake and the kids enjoyed splashing around. We also drove up Ebbetts Pass and enjoyed the scenery. The kids went to a couple of the Junior Ranger activities that they had going on, and we went down to Big Trees Park, ending up at the Snowshoe brewery for a good meal in Arnold before heading back up the hill. Overall it was a very pleasant and relaxing time. The cabin was what we were looking for a camping type experience but with modern creature comforts. It has the right balance of rustic style with modern amenities. We loved the fact it has an outside fire pit, this was something we were looking for so we could have that camping experience and smores with the kids. We also like the property and the privacy it has, and it is not too far down the dirt road to be annoying to drive.

Little slice of heaven
Little slice of heaven
I can't say enough good things about my stay at Tyler's Cabin. I live in the heart of San Francisco and crave quiet. And I got it! I went alone with my dog to stay for an extended writing weekend. The cabin was just perfect. The kitchen is well-stocked, awesome DVD collection (I was alone, remember...). The instructions and care Laura and her husband have provided make it all very simple. At this time of year (June) there are bugs - but Laura had thought of everything from bats to personal bug repellent machines so we could happily sit outside and enjoy the beautiful silence. Word of warning (and Laura made this clear, but I am reiterating). Fill up with gas in Arnold and bring everything you need. The kitchen is very well stocked but there really aren't many options close by if you run out of something. But that's a price I am very willing to pay for total isolation on top of the world.

another fun weekend!
We had another wonderful weekend away at the cabin. For the first time, we went fishing at Lake Alpine and had lots of fun...we managed to bring home 5 trout. The kids loved it and the lake is 10 mins up the road. We also took a long hike behind the cabin which was great, and the usual campfire and smores to end the day:) We'll be back again!

Just returned from a long weekend at Tyler's Cabin with the family. We had a blast! Very nice cabin, clean and well maintained. Tucked away so it's very private, but easy getting there and you can explore forever behind the cabin and in nearby Bear Valley and Lake Alpine (just down the road). Very nice inside the cabin...awesome wood burning stove and very comfy. The owners have been great...helping with area info, being flexible with scheduling, and always looking to improve for future guests. Have fun on your trip!
