Location: Bear Valley, Gold Country & High Sierra, California, USA (22 miles east of Arnold, California)

Accommodations:  Cabin, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 1.5 Baths (Sleeps 8)

Tyler’s Cabin is a secluded 2-story mountain cabin situated on 5 acres of pristine wilderness, at the end of a private road. The cabin is surrounded by pine and aspen trees, and a luscious wildflower-filled meadow in the spring and summer. Two sides of the forested property back up to U.S. Forest Service land, so the cabin and acreage place you smack in the middle of your own personal and private sanctuary. The cabin and its location make it a perfect spot for a romantic getaway, a family vacation, a writer and artist's retreat, or just a place to go to get away from it all and enjoy unspoiled nature in all it's glory.

The Cabin and Grounds: The cabin sleeps 8 comfortably. Upstairs you’ll find 2 semi-private sleeping areas divided by a staircase (each side contains a Sealy Posture-Pedic queen sized bed), a ½ bath (toilet, large sink and vanity). Downstairs you’ll find one queen sized sofa bed in the living room, and one queen sized sofa bed in the cozy back bedroom which has recently been rearranged into a bedroom/entertainment room. The new Lopi woodstove in the living room has forced electric heat which keeps the cabin toasty during those brisk mountain nights (firewood provided). There are also two twin foam mats for additional sleepers, or laying out on the deck under the stars. There is a full bath (toilet/commode/shower) downstairs next to the brand new washer and dryer. Overstuffed chairs flank the fireplace, and are a perfect spot to curl up with a good book and cup of hot chocolate. Outside, the front and back redwood decks provide privacy, serenity, bird watching, reading, barbecuing, sunbathing, or doing absolutely nothing. There’s even a rock fire pit off the back deck for roasting marshmallows and hot dogs under a bursting star-filled sky. The wide open meadow areas surrounding the cabin are perfect for tossing a baseball, or throwing a ball or Frisbee for your furry friend.

The Supplies: The cabin is fully stocked with everything from linens to spices. The kitchen comes complete with condiments, herbs, baking supplies, pots, pans, utensils, and all modern appliances – even a rice cooker and espresso machine! Most of our supplies and toiletries are offered to our guests on a "enjoy, use, and replenish" basis.

The Electronics: The cabin is wired throughout for high speed internet access, so using your laptop anywhere in the cabin is a breeze. Additionally, there is a full “office” area upstairs, which includes guest access to a computer, fax/copy/scanner, and a cordless phone/answer machine. For entertainment you'll find a TV and DVD player (with DVD library) downstairs, as well as an iPod docking station in the living room to enjoy your favorite music.

The Location: The cabin is ideally situated 4 hours east of the Bay Area (just off Hwy 4) in one of the last remaining unspoiled wilderness areas of the high Sierras. It is also just 22 miles east of Arnold, 1.5 miles from the town of Bear Valley and 3.5 miles from Lake Alpine.

Local Activities: In Bear Valley you can dine seasonally at a few different eateries ranging from gourmet to pizza, sip a drink at the Grizzly Cafe located in the Bear Valley Lodge, stock up on supplies at the General Store (circa 1850), rent kayaks and mountain bikes, attend the Bear Valley Music Festival, work up a good sweat at the annual “Death Ride” over Ebbett’s Pass, rock climb, hike hundreds of miles of trails (portions of the Pacific Crest Trail, the Emigrant Trail, and the breathtaking Carson/Iceberg Wilderness), grab a strong cup of coffee and fresh baked goods at the BV cafe, go geocaching, climb to the top of one of the numerous peaks and take in the awe-inspiring views of the Dardanelles, Ebbett’s Pass, Inspiration Point, and even Yosemite's Half Dome (on a clear day).

Just 3.5 miles from the cabin sits granite-surrounded Lake Alpine where Canadian geese roost, and ospreys, golden and bald eagles have been spotted. The lake has a strict 10 mph speed limit for all boats – so it’s quiet and perfect for bird watching, sun bathing, kayaking and canoeing. There are even some sandy beaches for little swimmers. Anglers can fish for rainbow trout, and the lake gets stocked with full-sized fish on a regular basis throughout the summer and fall months. You can even rent paddle boats and small aluminum motor boats. At the end of your day at the lake you can enjoy a meal or drink at the Lake Alpine Lodge Restaurant and Bar.

To help with your outdoor fun, we provide fishing poles, fishing tackle, canoe (w/life jackets), fanny packs and back packs.

Venturing out: The cabin is 22 miles east of Arnold, and a little further away you'll find historic Murphys and Angels Camp. There's a little something for everyone in each of those areas: antiquing, exploring caves, zip-lining across a canyon, wine tasting at numerous wineries, enjoying an outdoor concert at Ironstone Vineyards, or even horseback riding.

Tyler's cabin is the perfect blend: You can be away from it all, or be right in the middle of high mountain action-packed fun. The only thing missing from Tyler's cabin is you.

    • We just spent a great 4 day weekend at Tyler's Cabin and it was an amazing experience. The pictures and description on vrbo looked like what we needed and the reality was even better. It is about a mile off of the main highway off a dirt road with nothing next to it. the only neighbors we saw were squirrels and birds. The cabin was very well stocked and furnished. We especially appreciated the light fixtures that were very interesting. Obviously the owners spend a good deal of time here as it has that warmth. Our dog Astro loved all the open space and being able to run around. We hiked along the dirt roads outside of the cabin and it was beautiful. On the negative side, we had to leave & return to urban life. At least we got a dusting of an early snowfall which made the cabin and setting look like a wonderland.

    • We are from the L.A-O.C. area.My wife wanted to rent a cabin in Lake Arrowhead.I said "no way".If we are going to the mountains we are going to the Sierra Nevada's far away from anything L.A..Tyler's Cabin was just the thing. We have 2 kids 3 and 6 and were wondering if this would work with them.IT DID! The cabin was beautiful and quiet with plenty of hiking and rock climbing in the back yard.Lake Alpine was just gorgeous up the hill 5 minutes away.I would highly recommend this hide-away to anyone looking for peace, quiet and fun.

    • Imagine stepping into your own private and secluded retreat. This is what Tyler’s Cabin feels like. Our stay at the cabin truly gave us the peace and relaxation we were looking for. The cabin is nestled among beautiful trees, which give a great sense of privacy. We loved having our morning coffee out on the deck and stargazing at night out on the front deck. There is so much to do in the area from hiking, biking, fishing, and swimming at beautiful Alpine Lake. You will even find great restaurants and wineries in nearby town of Murphys. We really enjoyed our time here and look forward to visiting again.

    • Tyler's Cabin is a great place to enjoy the Sierra. The surrounding tall pines and deck overlooking a meadow of wildflowers provide a peaceful and quiet place to smell the fresh mountain air and enjoy the sounds of birds and chipmunks. A short drive to Lake Alpine and my dog and I could walk the lakeshore path. If you are interested in birds you might get lucky and see the mountain quail and whiteheaded woodpecker as we did. The cabin has all the kitchen equipment you need and furnishings for a very comfortable stay. You should bring along any fresh fruits, vegetables, good bread, and other food you might not find at the general store in Bear Valley, although they do have dairy products and other perishables. We highly recommend this cabin.

    • This cabin in the woods is better than I imagined. Not too big or small - just right. Comfortable, clean and welcoming. Perfect for reading and writing or conversing with friends/family. The setting feels like you are in the wilderness, but it's close enough to neighbors and nearby stores and restaurants. The lake, a few miles away, is a GREAT place to hang out during the day.

    • WOW! Our family loves this Cabin. Parents, teenagers, and dog. We spent a week, but wanted to stay more. So many adventures: rock climbing, lake canoeing, river swimming, mountain biking, big tree viewing and peaceful book reading. We only brought food; everything else was provided. EVERYTHING. Laura & John are the most gracious owners. We hope to visit again soon.

    • What a perfect get away from our daily stress. The cabin feels so removed, yet in close proximity to the lake, hiking, biking, restaurants, skiing, whatever outdoor activity you may enjoy. No need to bring anything except yourselves, as everything you may need is at your fingertips. The cabin is nice and cozy and I really enjoyed sitting out under the stars on the deck. You shouldn't miss an opportunity to visit this cabin and treat yourself to all the comforts and delights you will experience up in Bear Valley.

    • Last summer our Book Club had a long weekend retreat at Tyler's Cabin and it was just what the doctor ordered. The cabin is nestled in a serene and beautiful setting amongst the trees. Couldn't ask for a better place to curl up with a pile of books or hike into the wildflower meadows just past the end of the road. And to top it off having such a well appointed cabin with everything to make the stay so comfy and stress free. Planning to be back again soon.
