My Mother and I hit the Texas Wine Trail early this year for my birthday...Shepherds Rest was true to its name!!! Aaron has paid a lot of attention to detail...it is simple yet elegant. The beds were super comfy, and everything was very clean. My Mom usually has difficulty sleeping (due to joint pain) and she said this was some of the best rest she has had! You really must stay longer than a day to enjoy and appreciate everything this place has to offer! There are some very close neighbors, but there were no issues, and we thought it added to the charm. It can be difficult to locate, Aaron had to help us find it initially...there is no sign and the address is somewhat hard to see. Aaron is a wonderful Host, and we greatly appreciate all his help!!! The area is amazing! Plenty to do if you get out and explore. We enjoyed the shopping tremendously (just right up the road), and the local wineries were some of the best we have visited :) If you like unique, sweet, dessert wines you really must check out Wimberley Winery!!! For a breath taking view go to Driftwood Winery!!! These two were our favorite. Pack lots of food and go on a picnic at least once! We stayed two nights, wish it had been more!!! We LOVE this place and plan on coming back with friends!!!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

My wife and I just returned from a 3 night stay at Shepherd's Rest. Driving up the first thing you notice is the character of the house. We had lunch on the beautiful porch, as well as watching the sunset during our cocktail hour. Great big TV if you need it, fully equipped kitchen, and very comfortable beds. The Internet access is a nice feature as well. Out back there is a brand new hot tub where we spent time every evening (and sometimes morning!). All in all, we loved it and headed back as soon as we can!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, sightseeing.

I booked Shepherd's rest for a work retreat. The cottage is as awesome in person as it is in the pictures. The owners have tended to every need, and it was a wonderful place to spend a few days. It is quiet and feels out in the country while being very close to the amenities in Wimberley. I would recommend this place to everyone, and I look forward to going back.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

The cabin was secluded, peaceful and BEAUTIFUL! It was just before christmas and the twinkle lights were a homey touch. The town was close and looked like a postcard with unique and fun shopping. I especially loved the rosemary and the hills surrounding the location. Our landlord was available and helpful yet unobtrusive at the same time. Thank you for a great getaway!!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, people with disabilities, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

With the river so close, I highly recommend this short walk for a refreshing swim. The check in was a breeze, the house was welcoming, and the town is a treasure of people, food, and activities. Watching a first released movie under the stars at Corral Theater is a small town treat located just down the road. The kitchen is just right for cooking away from home with everything we needed already there. We have returned here for a ladies get away, and we plan to come back again.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

My husband and I just returned from a weekend stay at Shepherd's Rest. We had such a lovely time. the house was perfectly charming and we fell in love with the front porch. it is just far enough outside of wimberley to feel like you are secluded from town, but was really only a 5-10 drive into wimberley square. the owners left a ton of information about what to do around town and were so laid back to deal with, it was great. thanks again!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

Our family of four stayed 4 days, 3 nights, (Thurs - Sun) at Shepherd's Rest. I am always picky about beds and air conditioning, and for those who also are - neither disappointed. For the kids: I loved the fenced in backyard. It had a tire swing, regular swing, baby swing, and hammock perfectly perched under a big oak tree. They really had family in mind when they laid this out. There was a basketball goal, sand box (complete with cover), hot tub (which the kids LOVED), sidewalk chalk, and a variety of kid items. Hubby and I loved that we could relax either outside with the kids in the many appointed spots (hammock, by the bbq grill (which was under a covered patio), in the hot tub, etc. For adults: We also enjoyed the hot tub, loved the outdoor kitchen area where we could grill and pull up a chair to the bar (which was lit up by a beautiful rustic chandelier), the big wide screen TV with DVD player and Cable, did I mention the comfy beds and cold AC? The River: A 5 minute walk from the Cabin, literally. It had a shallow side to hang with the kiddos and a deep side for older kids and adults. Location: You are about 10 minutes from town and 45 minutes from New Braunsfels. Wimberley is fun to explore. They even had a Western Town about a mile outside of town which was really fun to explore. Many restaurants and shops - just remember they all close early. The food was delicious and I especially loved the dark chocolate dessert at the Leaning Pear, a restaurant the owners of Shepherd's Rest suggested. Amenities: Everything was stocked, from beach towels to regular towels, pots and pans, all kitchen utensils, extra blankets and linens, toiletries.... they even stocked a few deck of playing cards and games. They really thought of EVERYTHING. As a side note, the couch in the livingroom is not a sleeper sofa, but he back cushions can be removed via zipper and it makes for the square footage of a twin size bed, and they also provide linens for the couch. You can tell the owners put a lot of thought into this vacation property and wanted everyone to be comfortable and happy. They were successful in doing so. <3Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

My husband and I stayed at this quaint cottage near the river. The cottage was very clean and well-maintained. We felt at home even though our stay was around a week or so. It is a perfect get-away for a couple or family. The location is great as well so you can easily access the river or local restaurants, shopping, and grocery store. It was a very peaceful stay at this cottage and we hope to make reservations again very soon!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, people with disabilities, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Our family spent 4 nights at Shepherd's Rest in late July of this year. It was an amazing get-away. We have two children (age 2 and 4) who loved playing in the Blanco River, swinging in the backyard, and throwing darts on the porch. Wimberley is a great place to explore - shopping, eating, and slowing down a bit. If you visit, you need to go and see Jacob's Well. It's a great swimming hole about 15 minutes away from the cabin. Beware the water is cold! If you're looking to slow down, relax, and spend time with family in the beautiful Texas Hill Country - you should book a few nights at Shepherd's Rest. We can't wait to come back!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.
