Sands Island is a private, 32-acre island, surrounded by thousands of acres of undeveloped marshes, island beaches and meandering natural water trails. A two-bedroom cottage is the lone structure on the island. Although only ten minutes by boat (provided with your rental) from historic Swansboro, North Carolina, this quiet, peaceful refuge seems a world away.
The cottage was built in 1997 using old-fashioned craftsmanship with locally milled pine floors, walls and ceiling and cedar shakes on the roof. It is comfortably furnished and environmentally friendly with solar-powered electricity and a gas-powered generator for the air conditioner and as backup. The water heater, stove and refrigerator run on gas. The cottage has two private bedrooms, two bathrooms, a sleeping loft, a complete kitchen with dining area, a living room with a wood-burning stove, a screened-in porch and air conditioning. It can comfortably accommodate a family of four to six or two couples.
Your rental includes a motorboat, kayak and canoe for your personal use, as well as parking and dockage on the mainland. You can tour the local waters, visit nearby Hammocks Beach for swimmming and surfing, or visit the beaches of Emerald Isle.
As part of your unique experience, a local captain will take you on a brief boat tour of the surrounding waters and nearby Swansboro waterfront so you can visit those places later in your own boat provided with your rental.

Private Island Cottage Overlooking Bogue Inlet
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage
Sands Island, aka “Ski Beach”, is one of many small protected islands along the coast of North Carolina. It is the only one in this area where you can rent a private cabin. The house sits 15 feet above the water, with a panoramic view of waving sea oats, rolling sand dunes and watery wilderness. Thousands of acres of undeveloped pristine marshes and waterways provide abundant opportunities to fish and to view and photograph wildlife. If you have children, this is a wonderful place for them to enjoy. There are no roads or vehicles on the island, only footpaths. Despite its remote and unspoiled atmosphere, Sands Island is only a half a mile or 10 minutes by boat from the conveniences and attractions of the village of Swansboro. The island is entirely private except for occasional boaters on the beach on the other side of the island on weekends.

Clean, well maintained cabin in tranquil,secluded spot. Capt. Tim is a gracious and helpful host. Close enough to restaurants and antiques, ideally situated for nature lovers. Can't wait to go back! The listing and pictures are accurate, I highly recommend it.
Recommended for:Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, tourists without a car, pet owners, families with teenagers, girls getaway, families with young children.
