Luxury Cabin in the Pines on 3 Acres - Flagstaff/ Grand Canyon
Year Purchased: 1999
Why the Owner Chose Flagstaff
We searched a lot of mountain areas and decided that the Flagstaff area had the most to offer - beautiful pine tree covered mountains, close access to skiing, the Grand Canyon and Sedona, a great historic town with tons of restaurants and shopping, and temperatures 20-25 degrees cooler than Phoenix. The town of Flagstaff has a wonderful mix of small-town quaintness and great energy from the young university population. There are fantastic family-owned restaurants, coffee shops and boutiques, as well as all the chain stores we're used to. We knew we wanted acreage with lots of trees (we have enough of 'subdivision life' in Phoenix). We found some beautiful land just 20 mins outside Flagstaff and built our cabin. It was a dream come true for us. We hope your family enjoys this peaceful getaway as much as we have!
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin
We love all the great hiking trails, wildlife and tall pines all around. There are so many elk living in the area. The location is fantastic for recreation. There is snow skiing, sledding, tons of trails for quadding and hiking, beautiful little known areas (such as Sycamore Canyon), several small lakes and of course the famous Grand Canyon and areas of Oak Creek/Sedona, the Grand Canyon Deer Farm/Petting Zoo which our kids love. We really enjoy snowboarding and quadding. Even though it's secluded, many amenities are nearby There are so many restaurants and shops to choose from in Flagstaff. We really love the privacy of being in the forest yet being only minutes away from all the great amenities in Flagstaff. The Grand Canyon is spectacular, as is Sedona. Even after years of spending time at our cabin, we never run out of fun things to do. What we enjoy the most is the feeling of really 'getting away from it all'.
General store, feed store, gas station, real estate office. This is the exit you take from I-40 to get to Rocky Mountain Retreat; only 6 miles N on Spring Valley Rd.
Great place for the kids; you can feed and pet deer and other small animals. They also have wallabies, antelope, buffalo, peacocks, goats...
You can head to Williams (only 10 mins away) and take a trip back to the Old West by riding the train to the Grand Canyon. In winter ride the Polar Express to the "North Pole" and be visited by Santa.
Mile-long cave formed 700,000 years ago from lava flow. Your can stand upright to hike to the end of it. Says around 45 degrees all year long. Need good flashlights and hiking shoes.
Beautiful canyon for hiking/ sightseeing - second largest canyon in AZ. There is a waterfall during snow melt. It is one of the top places in the state for rock-climbing/ repelling.

Owner's Map of Flagstaff
My husband and I have always loved the mountains. He grew up in the city (Chicago), but I grew up in rural California camping in Yosemite most weekends with my parents, wonderful memories... We wanted to own a special mountain retreat where we could build our own family memories while our kids were still young. We love our time in the woods and our cabin has become very special to our family. We enjoy sharing our cabin with our guests

Thank you for the relaxing weekend at Rocky Mountain Retreat. We were very impressed by how organized everything is. You have thought of everything! If we didn't know where something was we referred to your instructions to find the answer. We spent Saturday at the Grand Canyon - what a sight. We were even lucky enough to see a herd of elk! Our family from New York and New Jersey go to see what Arizona is all about. We will definitely be back for another visit! (cabin guestbook)

To say that we enjoyed our stay in your beautiful cabin would be an understatement. I grew up in a pine forest in CA and being in those trees is a spiritual experience for me that is very renewing. Your home was perfect for all of us. I had just had some knee surgery but didn't even need to leave the property to feel drenched in the woods. Every room in the house has a lovely view! I enjoyed sitting on the deck in your wonderful, sturdy, roomy, comfortable deck chairs. Thank you for putting quality furniture out there. My daughter and I even sat out on the covered deck area by the BBQ while it was raining...one of my special memories. It was nice to have a big table out on the deck too where we could all sit to eat and play games. My husband needed a rest and the peacefulness of your home and the setting was most restful...... he slept a good deal of the time we were there which was a good thing! The trip was a gift to our daughter for her 30th birthday and she truly enjoyed her time there, especially since her nine month old was so happy there and also that there were so many things for her nine year old to do. I am pretty sure our granddaughter did everything you have provided for a kid to do, inside and outside! Her favorites were the video games, darts, ring toss, hammock and the single swing near the fire pit. Even the baby played with the ring toss ball and football. We all appreciated how clean everything was, especially with the baby crawling all over. We made smores and enjoyed the stars in the sky while the fire crackled. We appreciated all the information you provided about the cabin and the surrounding area. We also noticed all the little extra thoughtful touches, like the empty pantry in the kitchen ready for us to just pop our food into it. The hot water was hot, thank you! We also appreciated the light blocking shades in the bedrooms. We brought our own laundry detergent because of the baby but we did notice that you furnished that too, along with emergency sewing needs and flashlights. Everything was so new and in such beautiful condition, we hope all your renters will be appreciative of your home and treat it with the respect it deserves. We will be back! (guest email)

We went to the Grand Canyon, Sedona, Flagstaff and Williams. On our drive home we went to Winslow and stood on the corner there. Thanks again for sharing your lovely cabin. (guest email)
