Map & Owner's Profile
Luxury Cabin in the Pines on 3 Acres - Flagstaff/ Grand Canyon
Year Purchased: 1999
Why the Owner Chose Flagstaff
We searched a lot of mountain areas and decided that the Flagstaff area had the most to offer - beautiful pine tree covered mountains, close access to skiing, the Grand Canyon and Sedona, a great historic town with tons of restaurants and shopping, and temperatures 20-25 degrees cooler than Phoenix. The town of Flagstaff has a wonderful mix of small-town quaintness and great energy from the young university population. There are fantastic family-owned restaurants, coffee shops and boutiques, as well as all the chain stores we're used to. We knew we wanted acreage with lots of trees (we have enough of 'subdivision life' in Phoenix). We found some beautiful land just 20 mins outside Flagstaff and built our cabin. It was a dream come true for us. We hope your family enjoys this peaceful getaway as much as we have!
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin
We love all the great hiking trails, wildlife and tall pines all around. There are so many elk living in the area. The location is fantastic for recreation. There is snow skiing, sledding, tons of trails for quadding and hiking, beautiful little known areas (such as Sycamore Canyon), several small lakes and of course the famous Grand Canyon and areas of Oak Creek/Sedona, and the Grand Canyon Deer Farm/Petting Zoo which our kids love. We really enjoy snowboarding and quadding. Even though it's secluded, many amenities are nearby There are so many restaurants and shops to choose from in Flagstaff. We really love the privacy of being in the forest yet being only minutes away from all the great amenities in Flagstaff. The Grand Canyon is spectacular, as is Sedona. Even after years of spending time at our cabin, we never run out of fun things to do. What we enjoy the most is the feeling of really 'getting away from it all'.
General store, feed store, gas station, real estate office. This is the exit you take from I-40 to get to Rocky Mountain Retreat; only 6 miles N on Spring Valley Rd.
Great place for the kids; you can feed and pet deer and other small animals. They also have wallabies, antelope, buffalo, peacocks, goats...
You can head to Williams (only 10 mins away) and take a trip back to the Old West by riding the train to the Grand Canyon. In winter ride the Polar Express to the "North Pole" and be visited by Santa.
Mile-long cave formed 700,000 years ago from lava flow. Your can stand upright to hike to the end of it. Says around 45 degrees all year long. Need good flashlights and hiking shoes.
Beautiful canyon for hiking/ sightseeing - second largest canyon in AZ. There is a waterfall during snow melt. It is one of the top places in the state for rock-climbing/ repelling.

Owner's Map of Flagstaff
My husband and I have always loved the mountains. He grew up in the city (Chicago), but I grew up in rural California camping in Yosemite most weekends with my parents, wonderful memories... We wanted to own a special mountain retreat where we could build our family memories while our kids were still young. We love our time in the woods and our cabin has become very special to our family. We enjoy sharing our cabin with our guests.

Experience: 20 minutes outside of flagstaff we turned onto rt 66 and then a side street. Driving back into the wilderness I knew this was going to be the out of the way place we were looking for. Bringing my family of 4, another couple w/ a baby, and two dogs we were hoping for some quality space to play. That is exactly what we had at this cabin. Great 3 bedrooms, amazing fire pit, adequate size living area, and a huge plot of land to explore, sled, and enjoy the snow that started falling when we arrived. Negatives: Kitchen a bit tight but fully loaded, Cleaning fee high for how clean it was. Recommended: Great place for kids, dogs, and those just wanted some peace and quiet. Thanks to Dawn for the great customer service!

Pictures do not do this cabin justice! Our experience was greater than we could have imagined. EVERYTHING was 1st class. The beds and bedding were top of line and the kitchen had everything we needed to make cooking a breeze. Having all the little extras truly made a difference. Sleds to sled down your hill; a fire pit to make s'mores and the tree house for the kids was perfect. Our labradoodle was in heaven chasing the squirrels and playing in the snow. Thank you so much for allowing our dog to be included in the family fun! None of us wanted to go home and we are already talking about when we can come back. Thank you for sharing your little slice of heaven with us!

We spent a great weekend at this wonderful cabin in the woods. Everything was clean, neat and tidy. It had all the amenities that anyone could ask for. The 2 car garage was especially nice in the snow. The kids sure enjoyed sledding as well. The owner is very helpful and responsive as well. We would definitely recommend it to a friend. What a great stay!

We were so impressed by the amount of amenities this cozy, inviting cabin had to offer. The owner(s) did a great job of making sure that everything you needed and didn't think you needed were there. Fire pit and swings make it the perfect home away from home. All you need to bring is your clothes and food. We will defiantly stay here again.

This Beautiful cabin is the best one we have ever stayed at. The photos of it are great but seeing it and the location is just "Over the top!" Very Clean and well stocked and Dawn is very helpful and nice! We have been telling everyone about this awesome cabin. We took a trip on the Verde Canyon Railroad and saw more lovely scenery. Mostly we hung out at the cabin and enjoyed the peaceful beauty and the fresh air! We cannot wait to come back~

After days of searching on VRBO we finally decided on this cabin.WOW!! What a beautiful cabin in such a private lot! The kids had a blast in the tree house and we enjoyed watching them from the relaxing hammock by the firepit! The house is so comfortable and I never felt like I was in someone elses home, it felt like it was ours,The owner was so easy to work with and even had a welcome basket waiting for us. Wine for us and cookies and goldfish for the kids! Such a great touch that we were not expecting! We went to the Grand Canyon and Bearizona and spent hours playing UNO and games! Thanks for the great quality family time! We'll be back!

Our family had a great time at this property. This house was was more than expected, the pictures do not do it justice. When we walked in the first time we were impressed at the decor of the house - it gave that "at home" feeling. All the appliances were up to date and having a BBQ was nice when we were late getting back and did not want to have a big mess to clean up afterwards. The house was central to everything we wanted to visit in Arizona. What a wonderful way to end the day after site seeing, relax on a deck overlooking the ponderosa pine forest as the children playing and laughing on the tree-house and swings. This was our first time in Arizona and if we ever came back we would definitely would stay here and would recommend it to anyone we know traveling this way. Thank you for the wonderful memories our family will cherish.

We truly enjoyed your Rocky Mountain Retreat for during our week trip to Northern Arizona. The cabin is spacious, beautiful, yet family-friendly. We made memories while watching wildlife, playing board games, savoring wonderful meals and sitting by the campfire when not exploring the area. You have thought of everything to make vacationing easy, providing all the comforts of home. We will not hesitate to refer others to your beautiful home.

This cabin is AMAZING! The pictures do not do it justice. We went for two weeks with our two toddlers and their grandparents. The house is spacious, clean and the owners have not missed ANYTHING. We couldn;t get over how beatiful the house was and how we never found ourselves saying, "Oh we need to go get ____ to make this complete. Outside was even better! The treehouse provided hours of entertainment for our kids. The firepit, swings and outdoor seating had us enjoying our stay from all kinds of angles. We went there to escape the Texas heat and boy were we glad we did. Amazing weather, beautiful surroundings, close enough to town if we did need anything but far enough away to truly relax. We cannot wait to go back again and again!!
