Owner's Profile

Owner Description

Year Purchased: 2000

I am a New Yorker, born and bred. I love this city more than anyplace in the world, and this neighborhood in particular. I am greeted every evening by red cardinals who are later followed by blue jays. The diversity of the birds in the neighborhood is always astonishing to me. The night life in the area is great. There is a great Afro-Euro live music club within a three block walk of the apartment with great food.

Why the Owner Chose Harlem (Central)

I love this neighborhood. It is historical, architecturally beautiful and convenient to downtown Manhattan with all of its cultural riches.

The Unique Benefits of this Apartment

I love being within walking distance of both indoor and outdoor tennis facilities. There is a gym with a pool, sauna and steam bath, 5 short blocks away that only charges $20 for a day pass. I can be at Times Square within 20 minutes on the express train that is only 5 blocks away. The bus on the corner takes me directly to the Museum of Natural History.

Perfect Pad for a Work Trip or Family - Big, Inexpensive, Well Located, and Safe

Guest: Kal (Berkeley, Ca)
Date of Stay: 10/27/10 Review Submitted: 11/04/10

The living room and bedroom are a hallway apart allowing real privacy for a "2 bedroom" sleeping experience, as the kitchen and bath are off the hall. The 3 flights are compensated for by lots of daylight and very quiet windows on both ends, real security and great location to public transit, fast to anywhere, plus food stores and restaurants near. Has all you need to afford NYC. * Was the listing description accurate regarding the location? ABSOLUTELY * Did the listing photos accurately reflect the rental’s appearance and amenities? BLAZING MANHATTAN RENTAL!

Guest: Patticake (Sydney, NSW, Australia)
Date of Stay: 03/06/10 Review Submitted: 04/09/10

This property was a delight to stay in over a 2 week period in Manhattan- essentially it's in a great location, it's a really comfortable setup so that you feel relaxed when you come home after a day out exploring NYC and the owner went above and beyond to make me feel at home and give me a heads up about different things to do in the city. The apartment is not in a touristy area so you have an authentic neighbourhood experience of living in NYC but it's on a very safe block, takes 5 mins to walk to the subway and there's a strip of shops with everything you need on 125th St which is also 5mins away. The apartment itself is clean, has a very comfy bed, is private and secure and separate to the owner and is setup with cooking utensils so that you can cook if you choose. Within a 10 min walk there are several iconic bars and restaurants including Lenox Lounge and Sylvias Soul Food restaurant, The Shrine and a short cab ride away is St Nicks pub, you'll hear a lot of good blues/soul/jazz in the area. Best of all was having an owner who was approachable, trustworthy and helpful if I had any queries or even just wanted to hear from a local what they would do for fun. I would definately recommend this apartment and look forward to staying there again next time I'm back in NYC.

Perfect home away from home in Harlem

Guest: Texas in New York (Alpine, Texas, USA)
Date of Stay: 10/09/09 Review Submitted: 04/08/10

Terrific loction in the midst of the 21st century Harlem Renaissance. Close to bus, subway, 125th St. railroad station, Fairway and nifty neighborhood shops. Comfy bed - great exercise walking to the top floor! So much of the beautiful architecture of New York is still nesteled in Harlem's quiet streets; the broad avenues are stately and the tree-lined neighborhoods bustle with the rebirth of townhouses and small gardens. We will stay again and would recommend it to friends.
