Very charming three story house in a beautiful valley on a dirt road .6 miles from a major road leading to a simple but sophisticated town 2 miles away. There you will find really good restaurants, a movie theater, a bowling alley and an excellent wine and cheese shop.
There is almost no car traffic on this road. Foundation and feeling is 100 years old but renovated 20 and then 12 years ago. Outside has fruit trees, a large back patio with flower garden, vegetable garden, some shade, and of course a large barbecue.
The front of the house facing the street has a large covered porch: wonderful on rainy days. There are 3 full bathrooms on each floor. Bottom floor has 2 bedrooms, a bathroom, and opens with a private entrance to the road.
The middle level has the kitchen, another bathroom, and open living-room/dining-room. The kitchen opens onto the patio at the back of the house and from the living-room onto the covered porch at the front of the house.
The wood-burning stove, because of its position in the living room functions as a fire-place. The master bedroom with a queen-sized bed, a bedroom with bunk-beds, and a bedroom with a trundle-bed are on the 3rd floor.
The bathroom here is particularly lovely with a large antique footed bathtub. Decor is antiques but not precious ones. It is cozy, casual and people find it very relaxing. In winter there is downhill skiing 40 minutes away at a nice mountain with a excellent ski school for both children and adults. Horseback riding is 2 minutes away www.rybakhorsemanship.com.

Enjoyed a wonderful summer weekend with friends here at the house, which served as a great jumping off point for rafting on the Delaware river and going to the Bethel arts center. The back patio, grill, and huge yard were particularly great for kicking back on a nice summer evening with no one else in sight. A great retreat from the city within reasonable driving distance for a weekend.Recommended for: Families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+.

My family and I have stayed here numerous times including two Christmases and New Years in a row. The house is warm and sprawling with three floors of bedrooms and bathrooms. This would be great for a large group. The kitchen is open and airy with plenty of space for several cooks. There's a grill in the backyard that we also loved using. We also loved hanging out on the expansive front porch overlooking the pond and the dirt road with its overflowing pile of wood waiting to be tossed in the fireplace. The town nearby is filled with gems including a bowling lane, several bars, a diner, a wonderful design shop, and an old school movie theater. When we're here in winter we love the drive up to Elk Mountain with its small windy roads. In the summertime, there are wonderful farmers' markets by the side of the road selling delicious fruits and vegetables. The house is always very clean and well-maintained. The owners are kind and helpful if you should have any inquiries. Overall, a piece of heaven and I look forward to coming back.Recommended for: Sightseeing, people with disabilities, girls getaway, families with young children, pet owners, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers.

We love this house. We return every year for five days to ski and have fun with our family. The house is charming and warm, and the space is set up in a way so that allows for both privacy and a party feeling for all of us. We look forward to going back next year.Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

Why the Owner Chose Monticello:
We rented several vacation properties in the usual places for New Yorkers before choosing this area. We chose this area because there was much less traffic than going to Long Island or to the Berkshires and it is for us much more laid back and much less crowded.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Naturally beautiful, beautiful, and beautiful without being too far from civilization and amenities. And we do have 20 acres and a forest..
