My husband and I absolutely loved staying at the Sunrise cottage. From the very first time I spoke with Catherine, she was super enthusiastic and helpful in guiding us to the perfect stay. The Sunrise is very spacious (even bigger than the picture seems), with a lovely living room/bedroom on the top floor. I really liked the skylights/windows in the ceiling and full wall of windows looking out to pure green paradise. The kitchen is better stocked than any cottage I've stayed at (even has garlic press & potato peeler). They have nice touches, like a library of videos and books (Kauai guides too) and fresh fruit, chocolate and tea. The grounds are lovely, with horses, a vegetable garden and friendly pets (1 dog, 2 cats). Staying there made us feel like we were visiting friends, but without the pressure to hang out with those friends. It was in a great location - close to Kilauea (nice bakery, fish market, natural foods market), Princeville (Queen's bath) and Hannalei (Java Kai). Yet, the island is so small, it was convenient to the South shore and Waimea when we needed a bit more sun. We will definitely stay here again when we return to Kauai and are thankful to Catherine and Allan for their impeccable hospitality!

My husband and I recently stayed at the Sunrise Cottage and loved every minute it! The cottage was very clean, comfortable, and had everything we needed. The property was beautifully maintained with so many different kinds of flora and fauna and it was very peaceful and quiet. The owners were so hospitable and gracious to us--we were given fruit and avocados almost every day! Their animals were the sweetest pets, especially the dog, Kika. We wanted to take him home! :) Allan and Catherine were always willing to talk with us and answer any questions we had about where to go hiking, where to swim or snorkel, where to go out to eat, information about the farmers markets, etc. The North Shore was so beautiful and quaint. It was the perfect place for us and truly a dream vacation! We are sad to be gone and miss these dear people. We hope we can visit again soon! Maholo, Allan and Catherine!

We stayed at Sunrise Cottage for a week and had a thoroughly enjoyable time. The rooms were tastefully decorated, comfortable and visually soothing. The grounds were immaculate and perfectly kept with flowers galore. Catherine and Allen were superb hosts providing us with all our creature comforts and many we did not expect. Would we stay with them again? Yes, in a heartbeat!!!

Our stay at the Sunrise Cottage this summer was pure delight. My 10-year-old daughter and I loved our stay. The cottage was breezy, comfortable, and stylish - lovely to start and end our days here. We could relax in the safety and warmth of rural Kauai – while being so close to incredible beaches and wilderness. We thank our generous hosts Catherine and Alan Rietow, who infuse the whole multi-acre property with their care for the land (including outstanding fruits for our table), and care for their guests. Throughout our stay we were welcomed - and given a wealth of insider information about this amazing island.

My husband and I spent a week at the Aloha Sunrise Cottage - it is truly a little slice of heaven. The grounds are gorgeous. The house has everything you need to be comfortable, including a well-stocked kitchen, boogie boards, beach towels and snorkeling gear. The bed is beyond comfortable. The owners (and their pets) are delightful. We asked Catherine where we should look for sea turtles, and she told us the exact snorkeling spot. We followed her advice and sure enough, we spent the afternoon hanging out with four turtles who happened to be in the exact spot she recommended. The only reason I gave it four stars instead of five is that the location of the cottage is not within walking distance to any beaches or restaurants, so we ended up driving more than we wanted to. That may not be a big deal to other travelers. Despite this, I would absolutely recommend this cottage and I would definitely stay here if (when) I am in Kauai again.

Catherine and her crew are really great hosts. Great location, beautiful grounds, close to Hanalei Bay, Na Pali Coast and Princeville. You get the nice isolated feeling of being out in the countryside, but you're still very close to the beach, shops & restaurants. My wife and I enjoyed everything about our stay and plan to return as often as possible. Thanks so much!

We stayed at the Sunrise Cottage from 9/6/10 - 9/13/10 and had a great time. We enjoyed the peaceful surroundings including the comfortable cottage (having a nice washer & dryer was so appreciated), the amazing tropical foliage and resident horses, dog and cats and of course the Kauai chickens :)...We have visited Kauai many times in the past and wish we would have discovered Catherine and Alan's cottages earlier. We had many questions about the history and people of Kauai which our hosts thoughtfully answered and provided invaluable insight. We enjoyed our stay very much! The Aloha Sunrise Cottage was perfect for my wife & I when we visited the North Shore of Kaua'i. It was an ideal little spot for us to set up headquarters & explore the island. It was very comfortable & extremely relaxing, & not too pricey either. Catherine, the owner, is so friendly & helpful that we felt right at home. We'd definitely recommend this to our friends & hope to go back soon!
