Cape May cottage description
You're sure to enjoy your stay in our lovely cottage surrounded by lush, beautiful gardens, tranquil water features and an old-fashion tree swing. The cottage is just steps from the bay and the best sunsets you can imagine.Your coffee will still be hot when you step down to the beach to read the morning paper and do some dolphin watching. Once you arrive back at the cottage from a day at the beach, perhaps you will want to surround yourself with nature by relaxing in our lovely butterfly and hummingbird gardens. Just picture yourself enjoying morning coffee or pre-dinner cocktails on the pond terrace listening to the sounds of the waterfall. You can grill up lunch and enjoy it in the screen house. After watching the sunset, you and the family can gather around the firepit and roast some marshmallows and listen to the distant horn of the ferry. Creating great meals right at the cottage is a delight with our chef's kitchen and you can enhance your favorite dishes by helping yourself to the various organic herbs and edible flowers that I grow. Feel comfortable knowing that I do not use any chemicals anywhere in the garden. Our natural bay-beach is just steps away, FREE, and abounds with wildflowers, dune grasses, butterflies, and dolphins. Whether it's for morning coffee, sunbathing,, or a glass of wine in the evening, you will find the bay calling to you to enjoy it's many pleasures...beautiful sunsets, dolphin sightings, beach glass hunting , fishing or bird watching. Our lovely beach has warm, calm waters perfect for swimming and wading and also has great fishing and crabbing off the jetties.
There is always something to do, or you can just do nothing. Music, fun, tropical drinks and good food just blocks away at the beach bar at Harpoon Henry's or at the many fine restaurants in Cape May. Wildlife preserves for bird watching are minutes away, Wildwood boardwalk 15 minutes, Cape May 10 minutes, the Zoo is 15 minutes away, and several wineries just 2 minutes away. Our area of the Jersey shore has something to entertain everyone and every vacation interest.
Beach chairs, umbrella and sand toys for the little ones are provided. You will love our spacious, private outdoor shower under the trees, the screen house, lovely water feature, and you can even do some bird watching right from your chair in the garden. If you are looking to ride the waves in Cape May, we have complimentary beach tags for you, too.

Three old friends on a get-away!
Three old friends on a get-away!
We had a wonderful stay at this charming cottage! The house was clean, cozy and filled with lovely décor. The yard was magnificent. The flowers, fish pond, patio and screened in seating were just amazing. There is a deluxe outdoor shower and this cool swing that hangs from a large shade tree. We could have spent a great weekend without ever leaving the property! However, it gets better- the cottage is just a few footsteps from a quiet little beach that we really enjoyed. The historic area of Cape May was just minutes away by car and we also loved the beach over there (thanks for the complimentary beach passes). Cape May was full of great areas for shopping and tons of charming restaurants. The Victorian houses, the lighthouse and nature preserve provided awesome sightseeing. We did not encounter any overwhelming crowds and we thought everything fairly affordable. We highly recommend this rental - you will LOVE it! We can't wait to return:) PS: The pictures do not even do it justice. It really is a little slice of Heaven!

My wife, daughter and I enjoyed a wonderful week at the Garden Cottage by the Bay! The house is awesome and the surrounding trees, flowers and outdoor amenities were second to none. And, if that's not enough, the house is a few short steps to the beach and water. I've been staying at the shore at various houses and hotels for nearly 50 years, and the Garden Cottage by the Bay, was the best vacation house I've ever rented!!! The owner was very helpful in answering all of our questions and went out of her way to make our vacation a week to remember. I highly recommend this house for anyone looking for a relaxing, quiet visit to the shore.

We had a great stay here. The owner was very helpful getting us settled in. The cottage was in a great setting just a few houses down from the beach. The house was very comfortable and clean. The gas fireplace was a great touch. We loved the yard! The pond, multiple sitting areas, fire pit (which we used and enjoyed) and all the eclectic decorating touches were all great. We will be back for another visit!

Thanks, Anne Marie, for making your cottage available to us. We had a great time and enjoyed being back at Cape May. The beach abnd sunsets were wonderful. The bay was too rough to kayak, but we did in Cape May next to the bridge. Thanks a lot. P.S. I loved your flowers and used your dill and basil and mint...it was wonderful. I even enjoyed your music. Thanks for having us

It was a very relaxing vacation!
We have spent some of the most delightful days at your charming cottage. It nice to go to a beach that was less crowded. Your neighbor gave us a recommendation for a restaurant. We really enjoyed dinner at Harbor View. The She Crab Soup was the best. It was a very relaxing vacation and hope to do it again.

Rebuttal of Nancy
I'm sorry this renter felt it necessary to write such a poor review after their stay at our cottage after all that we did to assist them and make special concessions for their stay. Unfortunately, Nancy felt it was ok to enter my private cupboard and help herself to linens and towels and then leave them in a wet heap for the cleaning lady to launder. It is stated in the agreement that renters bring their own linens. The gas grill does work beautifully; however, one of the three grilling grates was broken but the other two were perfectly fine and could have been used. The grates have been replaced. The shower head in the second bathroom did crack during their stay and would have been replaced immediately if I had been informed. They chose not to call and let me know. A plumber could have been there in one hour. The house is professionally cleaned after each use and, if it is not to the renter's satisfaction, they can always call me and I will make sure the situation is corrected. This is a cottage that I use for myself whenever I can so it is kept as I keep my own home. It's a wonderful, cute, homey, comfortable get-a-way and 99.9% of my guests have enjoyed it very much.

My family stayed here for our last minute vacation and was very excited to find a place to stay. When we arrived though, it looked just like the photos but with a little more ware and tare. Upon entering the home it was not as clean as it should have been. Floors had hair on them and rugs and blankets did not look washed from previous renters. Also the gas grill was broke and the shower head in small bathroom was cracked and could not be used. Beach chairs and beach umbrella had definitely seen better days. When I FINALLY received my security deposit Sept. 14 (from a July 23 stay) the owner withheld $50.00 because I left two sets of sheet and 4 towels to be washed (I washed everything I could the night before) Stating the contract said I was to bring my own sheets, which it does not say that anywhere. I even called the owner to ask about linens and the call was never returned. So I feel she was unfair with holding my $50.00. If the house keeper cleans the house thoroughly one load of laundry would not have kept her there longer ! Rent at your own risk is my advice!!!

Wanted to tell you what a super long weekend we had at your house. Everything was just perfect - thank you so much for the champagne and wedding server - we used the latter to cut our cake! It was a super house - very relaxing with everything that we needed and lots of great areas to hang out and relax as well as cook and enjoy it...we will back back for sure!

The “Cottage by the Bay” is all that it is advertised to be. It was a perfect base to return to after exploring Cape May. Our original plans were to stay in one of the many B&B’s but we made the right choice when we decided a home to return to was better than a “single room with a bath down the hall”. The cottage was “as neat as a pin” when we arrived. We felt at home during our entire stay. Thanks to our host… our first visit to Cape May has provided many wonderful memories.

About the owner: Some of our best memories are the times we have spent in Townbank. For me, there are many relaxing, pleasurable activities such as biking on the flat, picturesque roads, walking the beautiful, natural beaches, enjoying the gardens, kayaking, and shopping the specialty shops of Cape May. Leisure time can also be spent hunting for 'treasures' at the many antique shops and yard sales. We enjoy the family oriented neighborhood, quaint country church for Sunday services, the best ice cream cones in So. Jersey, great wines right out of the boutique vineyards nearby, and wonderfully farm fresh produce and seafood.
Why the Owner Chose Cape May:
It only took one visit to Townbank and we were hooked. You, too, will fall in love with this quaint family community of single homes on tree lined roads with some of the oldest and largest trees in South Jersey. My family used to come here when I was a child and it hasn't changed very much since then. We fell in love with our cottage in the village of Townbank, bought it immediately, and have been working on it lovingly ever since. We enjoy every moment being there and so will you. You won't want to leave, I promise!
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
What we love about our cottage's location is the proximity to historic Cape May. A lovely seaside resort resplendent with beautiful Victorican homes, wonderful shopping, sightseeing and whaling excursions. If you enjoy the excitement of the rides and games on the boardwalk, then you will love Wildwood...we are so close, yet so far from the those maddening crowds. We have absolutely no problems with traffic, parking, or late-night revelers. You'll have crickets, cicadas and the distant horn of the ferry to serenade you while you're star watching around the fire pit. Not really a beach person, but still want to experience a great getaway? You can have nature take you away by just spending time in our shaded, lush gardens. We decorated the cottage comfortably so you will feel right at home. If you miss one of Townbank's world-famous sunsets, don't worry, we have a beautiful 25' mural of a gorgeous sunset that you can see anytime...night or day. Come and spend your vacation in our very special little bit of paradise.
