Perfect up north cabin!
Perfect up north cabin!
We just wrapped up the first phase of filming "Bestseller," a suspense, thriller film at this gorgeous cabin on Lake Huron, near Detour. We cannot wait to come back in October and begin filming phase two of our feature film. Our film crew arrived at the cabin on the evening of July 18, and we stayed for a week. The cabin was very large and inviting. The setting was peaceful and serene. We loved every minute of our stay! Be prepared for a getaway ... there is no internet, but who needs that on vacation?! Although we were there to film, I could easily see having a fun family getaway here. And when I say getaway, I mean the kind where you have a fire down by the beach with S'mores, go canoeing on the lake, play in the sand down by the water, get cozy by the fireplace inside and play some boardgames. We will never forget our time at this cabin, and cannot wait to make some more memories here in the fall! Thank you to the owners! Some of the nicest people you'll ever meet. Extremely genuine! And the people in the town of Detour were so welcoming!

Recommended for: Romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.
Manager response: We appreciate hearing from our renters. Many nice people have rented from us. They enjoy the peace and quiet, the natural setting, the Bay with it's connection to Lake Huron. They also enjoy the beautiful house wtih the huge fireplace. By the way, we have enjoyed visiting with renters from many places in Michigan, states and countries from American Virgin Islands to Florida to California and many in between; to Toronto to China to India to Poland and more. Many visitors have been from alitttle closer to home like Chicago. We enjoy sharing our rental homes and we enjoy knowing that they enjoy their visit. Thanks very much. We have enjoyed getting to know some of the "movie" folks and they took good care of the Cedar Retreat - looking forward to their return and their movie. John and Mary
Great Up North Cabin
Great Up North Cabin
We had a job in DeTour Village and this place was a very nice place to stay for most of the month of June. The place was beautiful and it was nice to sit on the deck and watch the wildlife while drinking coffee in the morning. We definitely will bring the family back when we vacation in the UP. We had fun building an artistic rock display to add to your landscaping:)

pictures look better than it actually is.
pictures look better than it actually is.
We were excited to get a place on Lake Huron, and the pictures and description looked great, but were disappointed shortly after arrival. The home is nice, but there is no A/C, so the house was very musty the entire time, and it was only high 70's, low 80's for the week, would hate to be there if it were in the 90's! Tons of mayfly's and moths kept getting into the house, too. The plumbing is extremely slow, and very little water pressure. The queen bed in the Master bedroom, is 2 mattresses sitting on the floor. The listing says there is a hot tub, there is not! When I contacted the owner, she said I was mistaken, I looked up the listing on my phone again, I was not mistaken! There also is no toaster, as the listing states, frustrating when you bring a bunch of bagels for breakfast. No internet connection, but that is not listed, so I was mistaken on that. Also, there is very little to do on the east side of the UP, the lake was beautiful, but Drummond Island was a let down. The dock is a way down the beach, and shared with another property, it's right in front of their cottage. We went home a day early, we had had enough. Owners are very nice.

Manager response: THIS BEAUTIFUL/WELL MAINTAINED “CLASSIC”Vacation Home here on Seymour Bay, Northern Lake Huron, is just minutes way from Quaint/Laid back DeTour Village Mi. THIS WELL APPOINTED, SUMMER RESIDENCE, has been chosen for the Filming of a Soon to be “Mystery Movie- Bestseller.” WATCH FOR IT..... My wife mistakenly added a comment to this listing stating “ hottub available June 22. “ This comment was for the Log Home next door; not this home. This has No Hot Tub! We apologize for this error..... In order to save electricity we turn the hot tub next door off in the winter. Further we would have gotten these folks a New Toaster if we had known it was missing... This home has over head fan’s, and well water. NO CONDITIONED AIR (JUST OUT SIDE FRESH), NO CITY PRESSURE, the pressure is fine, set a 40-60 psi. and we have 2-waterheaters, (1 for each side of the home) Hot water for showers always. The windows/doors have screens; if closed the bugs stay out. This is a Bayside Home and it appears there was a hatch when this family visited here. This happens, nature does it thing here. It is a rare evening when there is not a cooling lake breeze. The missing toaster...... Being built in the 70’s (Frank Lloyd Wright Style) this Upscale home has, vaulted ceiling, extensive wood cedar paneling, avocado kitchen appliances, sink etc. we love it and have added to the style. WE had an Avocado color toaster for this home. I will assume that the toaster stopped working and a guest forgot to mention it and disposed of it for us. I will replace it today and start looking for another Avocado colored one. I recommend open windows and doors for the FRESHEST AIR! (no musty odor) We do have a wood burning fireplace, and there is wood for burning. This could easily be the source of the (so called) odor. Never had any complaints at all on this place. Internet is available in town (1 1/2 miles) at the school library. The dock is closer to the other place, NOT in front of; it’s a shared dock . Each home has it’s own beach. If your looking for shops and stores and theatre etc. etc. , this is not the place for you. Walk, hike, swim, bike, fish, relax, read, unwind and This Is The Place Your Looking For. This home is a Great Place be. We keep it affordable so more families can visit. This Negative Review has been Placed HERE to HURT US; us very nice owners - Nothing more, Nothing less then To Do Us Harm! WHY? You be the Judge...Thanks John an Mary Kostecki
