Location: Muskegon, West Central, Michigan, USA (The House is 40 Mi. W of G. Rapids in the City of Muskegon)

Accommodations:  House, 3 Bedrooms, 1.5 Baths (Sleeps 6-7)

This tastefully decorated and extremely clean cottage has access to the nicest beach area on Lake Michigan. You simply walk out the door and try to decide which way you want to get on the beach in less than 5 minutes. The usual choice is through the school yard playground across a paved walkway.

Another option is an unpaved nature trail with benches along the way or at the end where you can see a beautiful, undisturbed sunset. The easiest way to hit the beach is by throwing a bunch of beach chairs & toys in the car. Your one minute drive puts you anywhere you want to be on an expansive, sparsely used sugar sand Lake Michigan Beach.

There is no charge for parking next to your own spot for the day. The area is cleaned daily, so please help. keep it that way. Public restrooms and outdoor showers are nearby. It's almost easier to walk back to the cottage to use your own facilities or have lunch.

A nearby restaurant with a view of Lake Michigan, the Muskegon Channel, & beach volleyball courts is available within walking distance. There's a playground next to the snack shop as well another next to the channel.

A walk out the breakwall is about 1/2 mile away from the beach in to Lake Michigan. The view back to shore and in to the channel is nice if taking a picture with this perfect background. The whole day can be spent walking along the water or taking the more easily traversed sidewalk route. Either way makes you feel like life is truly good.

Owner's Profile

Owner Description

Year Purchased: 1982

Retired Teacher & Medical Assistant. Annie & I moved from living in this home to another we built 1/2 mile away. We did so around 5 years ago to take care of Annie's Mom full time. We love the Bluffton Neighborhood and the home's location.
The neighbors are friendly and always willing to lend a hand. They also respect one another's privacy and try not to intrude.

Why the Owner Chose Muskegon

I had lived around the Muskegon Area in several different areas. I stayed with friends who lived in the Bluffton Area and immediately felt at home. In the early 80's I could not afford a place with a lake view, but could be close by. The area felt like more of a resort location, but had all the amenities of a city very close.

The Unique Benefits of this House

It's really nice to have a relaxing home & yard that is off the "beaten path". The only traffic driving by are mostly neighbors or someone visiting. If there's a desire for more action or to get close to the water and watch another great sunset, it's only a couple minutes away.

    • This was our first visit to Michigan. The house was clean, spacious, and very comfortable for a family of four. The location was perfect; it was within walking distance to the beach, school playground (just across the street), and a small store. Stan and Anne were very hospitable and extremely helpful in providing us with information about the area. We had no problems in navigating the area and enjoyed Muskegon and several outlying areas. We consider this one of our best vacations!! Stan and Anne won't disappoint you.

    • Both of Stan and Annie's houses on Plum street are wonderful. They are clean, warm and charming. We lived in both of them for a total of nine months and loved every minute. The beach is spectacular and is a 5 minute walk away from either house. Stan and Annie are great people. I can't say enough about them or the house.

      Homeowner Response:
Bill & Michelle were from Arizona and only planned on staying 4 months. After being here 1 month, they decided to live in the area. They had to move out of Plum Haven since we had already booked a few summer guests. That's when they stayed in Pedler's Paradise. Annie & I really enjoyed getting to know the Heckmans, and the boys, Will & Joseph.

Aug. 12-19, 2006 Dear Stan & Annie This vacation has truly been one of the nicest we've had! You truly made us feel "at home" away from home. Your home was lovely, well-equipped, very clean & large enough for us to "spread out". Your hospitality & friendliness were just what we needed to make the week perfect. (We also appreciated your efforts at making the weather so wonderful)! A great memory for us all- P.S. This was our first visit to Muskegon, but we hope it won't be our last! Joe & Susan Karas Michael, Anna, & Samuel Pittsburg, PA Joe sent an e-mail the following week: Stan, Thanks once again for your hospitality. My family and I had a wonderful time. Muskegon is like a hidden jewel. The Pere Marquette Beach is as nice or nicer than any we've visited, and your home was extremely comfortable. I particularly enjoyed having breakfast in the sun room, then lingering over coffee to write my vacation journal. We will have pleasant memories of our stay in Bluffton for many years to come. Thanks again, Joe Karas

Stan & Annie What a wonderful family vacation this has been!! From the moment we stepped into your home, we felt welcome. The girls absolutely loved sleeping in the trundle bed - we're quite sure they'll tell everyone back home about their adventures. Even Ben(11 months) had a blast exploring. Thank you for providing such a clean and comfortable home for our "much needed" vacation. We hope to stay again! Thank you for everything! Sorry for the stray baby handprints - Ben wanted to mark everywhere. Have a great summer! The Fabians Sam, Andie, Maddie, Abby, & Ben

Given that my idea of a perfect vacation includes eating, reading, & relaxing this house provided all of that. It's close enough to the water to be easy and far enough away to be quiet. I had a WONDERFUL time! Lili Idon't want to leave - Annie & Stan - you provide a wonderful house & you are both so considerate & helpful - we will always remember this week - all 3 generations of Schwan women! The image of my tiny mom in that humongous bed is so great - Lili cooking up a storm - running to the beach with Elizabeth & me having both the school & the lake for t'ai chi. What a paradise! What did we do? Cook, laugh, eat, go to beach, get soft ice cream, eat raw veggies from the market, visit old friends, grill the best chicken I ever ate (1st time grilling! Thank you Lili), laugh, tell stories, sit for hours on the porch - drink tea, watch Star Trek & walk & be in this beautiful place. Yea! It was great. We'll be back! Cynthia & daughters & Mom from Massachusetts, Chicago, & Lisle! Thank you for a lovely vacation, the house, its closeness to the lake the low-key nature of everything was relaxed. You truly have a lovely set up and I hope to be back. Elizabeth Schwan-Reseneahl Thank you so much Annie and Stan - We have had a wonderful time here. A friend of mine brought a phone book. You thought of everything. Great!!! Betty

Stan & Annie Had a wonderful time in Muskegon & really enjoyed your home. Thank you! Here are some food items we couldn't pack, plus a few in the fridge. Hope you can use them. Pete & Alexandra terHorst The terHorst Family liked it around Muskegon so much that they bought property near Muskegon Lake & closer to the downtown area. We helped them find someone to maintain the property till a few years down the road and they can build.
