Escape to genuine country by vacationing at the main farmhouse on our 268-acre real working farm.
The 6,300 square foot house has four spacious bedrooms, two living rooms, a media room, a game room, and a state of the art kitchen with double Viking stoves, two dishwashers, and a large Sub-Zero refrigerator. There are exposed hand hewn wooden beams as well as wide board floors throughout. The state of the art entertainment system lets you play music from either Sirius, your iPod, or CDs throughout the house.
The original part of the house dates from 1800, but all systems in the house have been upgraded to 2009, so there is the best of the modern and the antique combined. The house is zero net energy, as the electricity is provided by a 15 kw solar photovoltaic system, and the climate control system of the fully air conditioned house is powered by a geothermal system.
There are two fireplaces, one in the dining room and one in one of the living rooms, and plenty of firewood for your use. In the warmer months you will probably have your meals on the screened-in porch next to the kitchen, overlooking the large stocked pond and waterfall. You may also choose to have an evening fire in the stone fire pit that is only steps from the back doors.
Our farm has sheep and their lambs, goats and their kids, cows and their calves, and various kinds of fowl, depending on the time of year – chickens, geese, turkeys, guinea hens, and ducks. You can feed the goats their favorite treat – peanuts in the shell; let the sheep eat their feed out of your hands; or collect eggs from the fowl for your morning breakfast. You also will see our llama who tends to hang out with the cows.
You also may see some of the wildlife on the property during your stay – foxes, coyotes, wild turkeys (there’s usually a flock of about fifty or more), white tail deer, and red tail hawks. Don’t worry, as none of these really present any danger to humans, although the foxes, coyotes, and hawks make survival difficult for our smaller fowl. As long as our vegetable garden is producing (and the deer and rabbits haven’t been too hungry) you can also pick vegetables to accompany your meal or salad greens for your salad.
There are five ponds on the property for either swimming or fishing – fish for bass or catfish, or just enjoy feeding the goldfish and koi in the two ponds that have been stocked with these ornamental fish. Below the house on the property is a stream that is classified by New York State as a trout stream. Relax in the hammock by the waterfall that flows from the largest pond on the property. There are endless opportunities to hike and picnic on the property, either through the 100 plus acres of woods or alternately in the fields where you can take in the spectacular views of the Catskills in the distance to the west, Stissing Mountain to the east, or the Shawangunk Mountains to the southwest. Barbecue right out back or down by the stream or waterfall.
The towns of Rhinebeck, Red Hook, and Pine Plains are each only about ten minutes away; Bard College, the Fisher Center for the Performing Arts, and the Village of Tivoli are about fifteen minutes away, and the Village of Millbrook is only about a twenty minute drive. And we’re only about 90 minutes from the RFK (formerly Triborough) Bridge.
