Self-Catering

Glenculloo Cottage can be self-catered (rented). Self-catering includes private access to the entire cottage and its amenities, and unlimited electricity and water usage. A breathtaking green valley, mountains and babbling river beckon you from the front door…

Everyone enjoys relaxing by the fireside, and most guests consider this a desirable part of the “cottage experience.” Therefore, fuel (turf and coal) are provided for all our guests. Trips to the service station for fireplace fuel need not inconvenience your stay.

Glenculloo Cottage takes its name from the stunning valley which cradles it. Known by the local Irish as "Glown", the valley offers an idyllic setting of patchwork-green pastures and heather-covered hills, located on Keeper Hill Scenic Drive in North County Tipperary. The Mulkear River lazily winds its way through Glenculloo, and can be heard babbling from the cottage's front door.

Historically renovated as our personal holiday home, Glenculloo Cottage provides an atmosphere that many vacation rentals and high-volume B&B's lack. Guests can enjoy either a unique self-catering vacation rental experience or a highly personalized Full-Service B&B Experience.

County Tipperary is one of the best-kept secrets in Ireland. Away from mass tourist crowds, it is a place where you can experience the "real" Ireland. Our hope is that your stay at Glenculloo Cottage will be an unforgettable experience, rejuvenate your spirit, and surpass your expectations.

The cottage boasts 4 bedrooms (2 queen sized beds, 4 full sized beds), 1 master bath, 1 shared bath, a parlor, dining room, kitchen, and a sitting room. The original cottage and structure were historically remodeled and preserved, to provide an experience that "brings you back into the old Irish countryside." The renovation included new electrical, water, and additional amenities to bring it into the 21st century, making it an ideal location to visit and enjoy the heritage and feel like a Local.

Glenculloo Cottage provides travelers an opportunity to enjoy the peace and quiet of the rural Ireland countryside. Listen as the babbling river flows in the morning glow of the sun; watch as the farmers prepare their cattle and sheep for their daily walk through the winding roads of the Glenculloo Valley; and enjoy special moments throughout the countryside without the interruption of busy streets and loud city noises. Glenculloo Cottage, a place of character, comfort, and intimacy.

Owner's Profile

Owner Description

Year Purchased: 2007

Your hosts are Tony and Dana. Tony has been coming to Ireland for over 15 years and established Glenculloo Cottage B&B in order to share his passion for Ireland with others, providing guests a unique opportunity to experience the “real Ireland”. He is a physician who practices part time in the United States. Since the age of 3, Tony has embraced his gift as a talented violinist…and per chance, you might catch him fiddlin’ during your stay at Glenculloo Cottage. Dana brings a wealth of experience from years in the hospitality and tourism industries. An avid history buff and traveler, he specialized in destination wedding planning and VIP touring during his years of residency in France. He has a Masters Degree in Social Work with an emphasis in Child Welfare, and volunteers his expertise to community causes when not hosting guests at Glenculloo Cottage. Starting in 2010, both Tony and Dana will host you during your visit to Glenculloo Cottage.

Why the Owner Chose Tipperary

Glenculloo Cottage recently completed a two-year renovation, which completely ‘modernized’ what was once a derelict and crumbling structure. Great care was taken to preserve the integrity and character of the original cottage and barn, which date to the late 18th century. The Cottage was the family home of Mick and Maggie Clifford, whose extended family still inhabits the valley and surrounding area. Though long since deceased, the memories of Mick and Maggie live on in endless stories expounding their zest for life, and the hospitality that was heaped upon all visitors fortunate enough to cross their threshold. I aspired to share this ‘renowned hospitality’ with others. I opened my home to guests, so that they, too, might experience the ‘real’ Ireland…and Glenculloo Cottage was born. There is something very special about this place, and I continue to be humbled by its beauty and enthralled by its people. For me, the magic and mystery is a palpable today, as the day I first arrived in Ireland, over 15 years ago. The renovation of Glenculloo Cottage was undertaken, and designed, with guests in mind. Visitors enjoy the bet of both worlds…modern comfort and convenience…and old-world charm. The ‘old cottage,’ as she’s affectionately referred to, was intentionally unaltered…crooked walls, and all. A complete, but sensitive, renovation took place resulting in a home that provides the combination of character, comfort, and intimacy that is impossible to replicate in new construction. Upon crossing its threshold for the first time in nearly 20 years, my dear elderly neighbor clasped her hands together and proclaimed, “I danced many a Siege of Ennis in this kitchen…T’was always a happy place!”

Historically renovated as our personal holiday home, Glenculloo Cottage provides an atmosphere that many sterile self-catering accommodations and high-volume B&B’s lack. Guests enjoy a unique and highly personalized Full-Service B&B Experience. Though set in the peaceful Irish countryside, the central location of Glenculloo Cottage makes many “must-see” tourist destinations easily accessible via day-trips, and guests have the exclusive opportunity to enjoy our Personalized Tour Service during their stay. County Tipperary is one of the best-kept secrets in Ireland. Away from mass tourist crowds, it is a place where you can experience the ‘real’ Ireland.
