Keywords: The Happy House.....
Welcome to our Happy House! My parents have owned this house since 1976 and it one of the only houses on the block that survived Hugo in 1989. We had cars and boats under the house, and we had the second story of a front beach house a block away resting calmly against the palm trees in the front of the house. Thank goodness for those palm trees! Needless to say, we were very fortunate.....very fortunate.
It is a 2 bedroom, 2 bath Round house. It was designed and built by Air Force Major Walter Pillsbury in 1967...he was ahead of his league with round houses. In an article sent to me by his wife Pam last year, (from 1967)...."As if a hexagonal-shaped house weren't enough, the major crowned it with a steeple".
The coolest thing to me that Major Pillsbury did was what we have always called "the Bed in the Wall"!....there is a bed in the wall....a twin. I have grown over the years, but when I was 12 years old, I always called it! To me, that is one of our greatest features....needless to say I am now 45 years old. We also have a sleeper sofa.
We have totally rehabbed it this spring. Major had a steeple on top, but it was with deep regret, we had to replace it with a new roof and "Copala"....Mom and Dad just used to hang more plants up to catch the leaks...all good now, and thanks to our contractor Alex! I think the Pillsbury's would approve!
We have also replaced the deck, the bathroom (new tile, countertops, tub, shower, etc),new outdoor shower, and added a new set of stairs to the front. New paint in and out, gutters, etc.....
My Mom named it the "Happy House". It is very user friendly. And now pet friendly as well. It's a house that you can go in and not worry too much about messing up a $50 million dollar piece of furniture.....
We are across the street from the beach...you used to be able to see it...directly...until they built the monster house....so sorry about that. My Dad used to always trim the trees for the views.....
We are very proud of what we have done these past few months. My husband, my sister, and myself, and our friend Alex and his team....incredible carpenters.
Our Dad has Alzheimer's, and I just wish we could take him there one more time....we can't, but I know he would be proud!!
It is a Happy House.... so welcome to our Happy House!!!

Our stay at the "Happy House"

Just wanted to let you know that our stay Sept. 10-17 was great! The weather was great (the hurricane a week or so prior had us worried). We met our two daughters and granddaughter there to celebrate her third birthday. She lives in New Mexico so the beach was all new to her. The waves were ok, but the tide pools were what she loved! The bed in the wall was also a hit. We really enjoyed your little piece of heaven and hope to make it a yearly event. It truly lives up to the name "Happy House".

We loved this little house on the Isle of Palms. It was right across the street from the beach, very easy access. Perfect size for a family of 4 or 5. Kat and Connie were so easy to work with and were available for anything we may have needed. We hope to make a trip out again and spend another relaxing, enjoyable week next summer.

My family spent our Spring Vacation at the Happy House and had a great time. The home was supplied with everything we needed and more. The location is great - away from the bustle of the commercial area but giving quick access when needed. The walk to the beach is less than 2 minutes. The owner was terrific to work with and made sure that our questions were answered. There are many newer and bigger homes in the area, but I'm not sure why we'd spend more. Happy House is neat, clean, well appointed and convenient. We'll likely make the trip and stay there again.

Late on my review, but this place is the best location! So close to the beach and farther up from the day visitors which makes it a bit more quiet. Listing was accurate. Very clean. No dishwasher, but it was not a big deal. Kids could bike ride on back roads safely. Kat was amazing to work with!

My family and I had the privilege of staying at this place for a week in July, 2010. The “Happy House,” was so quaint and charming. My 5 year old son and 3 year old daughter had to take turns sleeping in the bed in the wall because there was no way that one of them would get it for the whole week. Nights were perfect, grilling on the deck and enjoying dinner outside in the evening breeze. And the location – directly across the street from the beach access – could not have been more convenient. The beach is un-crowded because you are several blocks away from the pier, but you are still only a few minute drive into town should you need something from a market. I see Isle of Palms, and quite possibly the Happy House, becoming an annual event for my family and me.

My family a had a great week at the beach. The "round house" was so much fun. Everything was so well equipped, especially the kitchen! It was an easy walk to the beach directly across the street. The trees in the yard are absolutely unbelievable!! This was a great house to stay in and would go again anytime. The owner was so nice and easy to work with.

Our family stayed at the "HAPPY HOUSE" and we had such a lovely time. Right accross the street from the beach, there was always a breeze on the deck and wow what a deck it is. The location is wonderful, we were close to the marina and the kids loved parasailing. The boys enjoyed fishing and caught several fish. You are close enough to enjoy the shopping and dining and yet you still have privacy. I was impressed with the layout of the house. It is very open and there is plenty of seating for a group. The bed in the wall was a big hit with my grandchildren. We had plenty of dishes and cooking utensils. Everything was just perfect. We had lots of hot water and the air conditioner works great. Even though there were several of us, we never felt like we were bumping into each other. I could have spent more money and stayed in a bigger newer house but I don't think we would have had any better of a time. This is a great place to spend your vacation, and I hope I do get to do it again.
