Location: Paris Arrondissement 4, Paris, Ile-de-France (Paris Area), France, Europe (METRO Sully Morland, Pont Marie or Saint Paul) View Map

Accommodations:  Apartment, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible Bed(s), 2 Baths (Sleeps 4-6)

Ile Saint Louis is the most prestigious and sought after location in all of Central Paris- a small island in the middle of the Seine yet away from all the crowds and tour buses . A small exclusive community live in 16th, 17th and 18th century mansions and apartments. The church of Saint Louis, Notre Dame, the Louvre, the Seine, Bastille opera , several open markets, several Metro stations , buses, fashionable shops and restaurants are all close by .

Since we purchased the apartment we have added a second bathroom and updated the main bathroom - VERY FEW Paris apartments have two bathrooms . The kitchen has been updated, windows in Living room , Dining room, door to terrasse are now double glazed for energy efficiency. Solid oak hardwood floors throughout, and the apartment has quality furnishings and equipment . Pictures are also on our own web site.

The apartment is at the quiet end of the charming main street of Ile Saint Louis, in a small very well maintained 18th Century building at the far end of the street - away from all the noise of the boutiques and restaurants at the Notre Dame end. Real French people live in the building . It is close to the famous BERTILLON Ice Cream Store, wonderful patisseries, butcheries, restaurants, art galleries, bookstores and charcuteries. It is easy walking distance to all major attractions and to the Metro - Notre Dame, Louvre, the Sainte Chapelle, the Marais, the Bastille, and several street markets---it is only 100 metres from the Seine .

There are several bus lines close to the apartment, as well as the Metro Pont Marie or Sully Morland, Line 7, which takes you to the Louvre, Opera, Comedie Francaise and the Grands Magazins. Metro station Cite, on line 4, and Saint Paul on line 1 are also very close .

Our apartment is on 1er etage, one flight up, is 80 square metres - around 875 square feet, and as well, it has a 22-square-metre terrasse garden which gets afternoon sun . The floor plan can be faxed to you.

There are two bedrooms, each with French king-size beds,
160 x 200 cms . The double living room has a full size sofa bed, and a mahogany desk/secretaire. There is a family room/casual eating area with a table seating six and a TV off the separate kitchen. The dining room has an antique mahogany table, mahogany cane seated chairs and can seat 8 to 10. It also has an exposed stone wall, and a serene outlook onto trees .

All five rooms have access to the terrasse- either with windows or French doors. Although there is no airconditioning, the apartment's thick stone walls, its numerous windows and the terrasse ensure that the apartment stays cool in the summer. The bedrooms are quiet, both located at the rear of the apartment. We do have two fans

Why the Owner Chose Paris Arrondissement 4

This apartment needed quite a lot of TLC when we bought it , but no major work or reconfiguration .As well our realtor knew a contractor who could do the work needed- he was also doing up a palace for the Rothschilds at the same time . We love the location , which is quiet yet very central . We have found that Ile Saint Louis is very sought after by North Americans

The Unique Benefits at this Apartment

The four patisseries on our street and the Cheese shop. Watching the beautifully dressed children playing in the preschool opposite . Ads it is at far end of the street ,where no restaurants or boutiques are allowed , it is very quiet after 6 pm .

We live in San Francisco when we are not in Paris taking care of this apartment and enjoying everything Paris has to offer

Great Paris location and apt. for our ladies trip

Guest: Lisa (New Orleans, LA)
Date of Stay: 07/07/11 Review Submitted: 07/20/11

We enjoyed staying at Jeannette's cute apartment on the Ile St. Louis. It was a perfect location, close to everything. Coming from the deep south and having been to Paris several times in normally very hot July, we were a little worried about no air conditioning. However, the weather in Paris was cool and perfect. The apartment was small, as almost all hotel rooms and apartments are in Paris, but it had everything we needed and was very comfortable. Having 2 bathrooms was definitely a plus. It is very close to at least 2 small grocery stores and numerous adorable shops. Notre Dame is just 2 or 3 blocks away. Jeannette is very easy to work with, and I definitely recommend her apartment. We were a group of 6 ladies (mothers, daughters, grandmother and friend) ranging in age from 18 to 76.

Owner response:Thankyou Lisa for your kind words - hope you will all come back soon jeannette

Your kindness and consideration made # 17 feel like home and we were both in tears when we left . It was so clean we joked we could eat off the kitchen floor You have arranged it so that people can relax as soon as they enter , and feel secure and safe on this very special island .

Chere Jeannette Fabuleux, what a marvellous week we just spent at our ISL apartment . We loved every minute of it as did our friends , who savoured the city and loved the Island as a base for exploring . Gorgeopus weather , a couple of smash bang thunderstrorms at night. No volcanoes as last year . We heard hardly a peep for the neighbour above . We enjoyed meeting the lovely lady who lives upstairs on street side . We bought a lavender plant to enjoy . As always a thousand thanks for your generous hospitality We are already looking forward to next year, same time , of year . The keys are en route tomorrow , fondly, M et D

LOW POINT OF OUR TRIP

Guest: Bob (Rancho Santa Fe, CA & Kohala, HI)
Date of Stay: 05/13/11 Review Submitted: 06/16/11

We wish to inform others of the conditions in #23906. We've rented many apartments in Europe, including five in Paris, and have never encountered such filth and clutter. Every horizontal surface above 5' was dirty (not dusty) and much below 5' was similarly unclean. We had to wash all dishes, glasses, silver & pans before using. Closets, shelves and drawers were cluttered with the sort of stuff we'd throw away or recycle and the dregs of former guest's nuts, spices, cookies & rancid oils along with non-matching towels of all sizes and colors added to the melange. Comforter in BR #1 had spots & odor. "Lovely terrace" was filthy with mops, bucket & dead plants. The clutter effect was enhanced by handwritten post-its stuck up all over with do's and don'ts -- this was our introduction to what seemed to us totally non-professional operation of this apt. The owner seems to run her rental like a student co-op with the "guests" expected to provide cleaning supplies, light bulbs, staples, etc. Communication is fruitless since guests are barely tolerated as being stupid and untruthful interlopers. Upon arrival, one toilet was plugged and we've been charged $60 for a handyman - go figure! And the TV/Internet/Telephone box wasn't working so my wife called the owner who, instead of listening to our problem, told my wife that she is technically inept. We then spent over 3 hours of our Paris time at France Telecom having the box reprogrammed. In addition to the dirt and clutter, there's noise. With a school across the street, the playground emanates high-level noise from 9am to nearly 6pm. The double-pane windows do some noise reduction but we didn't find opening a window on a nice day to be the thing to do. Also, the total lack of soundproofing respecting the apartment upstairs is unbelievable. We were privy to TV, voices, footfalls during the night, and chairs scraping the floor -- all from upstairs. In conclusion, we found the living/dining room adequate; the kitchen/"family" area just OK; and the two bedrooms and 2nd "bathroom" a very sad affair. The 2nd "bathroom" consists of two tiny booths almost directly off the living room -- one with toilet and mini-sink and one with shower. Better not be in the shower if guests arrive since stepping out of the shower is stepping out of the booth. Although Paris bedrooms tend to be small, the size and furnishings of these bedrooms set a new standard for starkness. Low point of our trip.

Owner response:These people are not stating the facts of why we withheld $183.20 of their security Deposit . I am sorry they did not like the apartment, most people love it ,but there is no accounting for taste, and they are welcome to express their opinion . Many people have returned to rent our apartment 6 or 7 times - one family comes back for the same week every year . Never once were we told that the apartment was unclean , let alone filthy , and I had several phone conversations , and Emails from them during their stay . It was not until after their departure that they wrote an email demanding money back . We have had our cleaners working for us for 10 years and there have been very few complaints .Had these renters mentioned the apartment was unclean, we would immediately have asked our cleaners to return and take care of what was not satisfactory to them . Our cleaners take pride in doing a good job In the rental agreement that these renters , and all our other renters signed, item 10 , states that they report to the owners " any problems found in the apartment on arrival within 24 hours " They did not report anything at all to us within 24 hours. The toilet blockage was reported after they had been using it - I have their email confirming this. They cleared the blockage with the plunger we supply and did not call to cancel the handyman we had engaged to come over,at their request , demand . We did not need, ask or want them to take our WIFI equipment to ORANGE .We are responsible for it . We have someone in Paris to take care of keeping it working if needed . They did not ask us to call anyone . They also signed , item 12,to " pay cleaning and laundry fee of 90 E " , They did not leave this money , it was part of their contract to do so . I had to send a cheque to the cleaners in Euros by Express mail, did not charge them for this mailing , only the 90 E cleaning charge The second bathroom is indeed small, but it works , and most people are thrilled to have a second bathroom as they are rare in Paris in a 2 Br apartment . I really dont want to try answer all the accusations that are false or misleading. VRBO knows we are reliable and trustworthy, and have always done our best to provide exactly what we advertise , ever since we bought the apartment in 2003 I am happy to provide references if needed Very truly yours, Jeannette , the owner

We had a lovely time in your Paris apartment . We cooked Breakfast every morning and enjoyed Xmas Dinner with a lamb roast from the gourmet butcher across the road . The butcher even wrote down the time and temperature required to cook it without us even asking . The towels were plentiful and the heating and hot water were excellent The Washer and dryer functioned very well . You have a great assortment of plates and cutlery
