John and I made our first trip to the Outer Banks in 2005--from then on we were hooked. Although we live in Massachusetts and have access to the beaches of Cape Cod, we found there's no place in the world like the Outer Banks for gorgeous beaches, warm water, beautiful sunrises, dolphins and whales going up and down the coast within view, and tons to do from morning until night--even if you just want to sit on the beach with a book all day.
