The Mauna Kea Villas are very large (over 2,200 square feet), have a private splash pool and spectacular ocean views. The Villas are also the closest property to the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel.

The pros: great location and views, cool james bond 70's architecture, close to mauna kea resort and beach, well equipped kitchen, great lanai/terrace,nice small plunge pool The cons: none of the advertised technolgy stuff worked including the wireless internet, living room tv, cd player, etc. And worse, the management company was totally unresponsive about fixing it. Excessive grounds maintenance every day we were here all we could hear for several hours a day was lawn mowers, leaf blowers, hedge trimmers, etc. It was incredibly intrusive and excessive. It is not that close to the hotel, a 15 min walk on the road, no footpath. The furnishings are dated and in need of refreshing. Overall we would not stay here again or recommend it given the wide variety of other options. I think the management company is largerly at fault. So I would recommend avoiding other houses managed by south kohala management company. I would check out rental houses in puako or those on the footpath between the mauan kea and hapuna beach hotels.
Owner response:The guest contacted us 2 days after arrival saying that the wireless internet was not working. The wireless internet had been working fine previously. The office person provided the guest with information to re-set the system which solves most issues. The guest called back the next day and said it was still not working. Our office person talked with the guest and provided some additional information to check the system. We called back twice that day to follow-up but did not reach the guest. Our staff person left two messages but did not hear back from the guest again until they checked out 3 days later. We are checking the system and replacing any needed components as well as a new flat screen TV and stereo system for the benefit of future guests. The landscape is maintained primarily by the Association and they generally are unobtrusive. This is the first time we have heard of this issue. We also advertise the villa as a “10 minute walk” to the hotel which is accurate. The distance also provides some additional privacy for villa guests and the higher elevation provides a great view.
Recommended for:Romantic getaway, families with young children, sightseeing, age 55+, girls getaway.
