Flagstaff house description
Elk Creek Chalet is a beautiful cabin with panoramic views. Trails lead right from the cabin and overlook a small creek where the elk come occasionally to drink and sleep when in season.
Custom built in 2005, our cabin has 3 bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms, a fully furnished kitchen with dining area with views.
You can watch the sunset from the two decks or front porch. The larger deck is off the living room and the second is off of the Master bedroom.
There is plenty of wildlife for you to see here and bird watchers will have the opportunity to watch our feathered friends playing and feeding in the large pine tree against the main deck.
We have a long driveway for off-street parking that will accomodate trailers in case you're attending the county fairground just one exit further up I17. Folks with toy carriers will find that we have the ideal staging ground to launch explorations of the Forest Service trails accessible nearby.
Whatever your reason for wanting to visit Flagstaff or the Grand Canyon, we're sure you'll find Elk Creek Chalet a relaxing and comfortable place to make your base.

One of the best Flagstaff rentals!
One of the best Flagstaff rentals!
We loved this house! It's open, airy and comfortable. Kids enjoyed the theater style media room, while we enjoyed the patio in the cool mornings and evenings. The hiking trails just down the hill were perfect. Being tucked away in this small forest community was exactly what we needed, although we found it very difficult to return to hot Phoenix. It was stocked with everything a person could need from kitchen tools to bedding etc. Definitely an A+ VRBO.

Great Place to Stay
Great Place to Stay
This was a great place. My family was there for my son's graduation from NAU. There was plenty of room for everyone. The place was very clean and well stocked. The view was beautiful. We were just 5 minutes from town. We saw the trail head at the bottom of the street and were able to enjoy a hike in the cool weather. Hated to come back to the heat in Phoenix. The owners were available and helpful when we had questions. Yes,I would recommend this place.

Very Nice Cabin!
Very Nice Cabin!
Actually I give this cabin a 4.5 rating for our week, it was very nice and we would stay there again and recommend it to family and friends. We especially liked the main porch and its view. We used the huge barbecue a lot and the kitchen was also well appointed. Of course no place is perfect so here are a few items to be aware of but nothing that should disuade you from renting it. First, there is no A/C. Normally that would not be an issue at 7,000 feet in the forest but we did have a few hot days that were a little uncomfortable inside, especially in the upstairs two bedrooms, even with the fans. You may have to reset the wifi router a few times and the TV set-up is a little complicated but the picture is perfect once you figure it out. Two big dogs next door that like to bark but you can't hear them inside. Anyway, just minor stuff, I still highly recommend this cabin. We did have a couple questions while there and the owner was very quickly responsive to our emails.

Owner response: Thanks for your review. We are very happy you enjoyed your stay and we are thankful for your suggested improvements. After your stay we spoke to our neighbors and they no longer leave their dogs out unattended. Also, we make sure that renters are aware that we are in the mountains with almost no cell reception. We do offer phone service that includes long distance. Best Regards,

Summer in Flagstaff
The property was in excellent condition, very clean and just as described. It was a very relaxing place to be with only one very nice large television in a media room with surround sound. The large livingroom space allowed for another area to talk and relax without the TV but with a great Bose music system. The beds were comfortable. One night we sat on the back deck looking at a zillion stars and then watched a spectacular storm iwth lightning roll in over the mountains. The appliances were excellent and the kitchen was very well stocked with every kitchen item you could imagine.. We even had a griddle for our pancakes! The owners were very accommodating and informative about things to do in the area and places to eat. Our favorite was the Beaver Street Brewing Compamy. The food was great! We enjoyed the hiking trails near the house as well as our day trip to the Grand Canyon and the owners' suggested route is defnitely the way to go. We considered going to Lowell Observatory but they were not going to have the nighttime viewing due to the clouds/rain - so we skipped it. The only thing that would have been nice to know, although it would not have changed our decision to rent, is that AT&T cell phone service did not work in Kachina village until we got out to the freeway. There is a house phone and wireless interent...with iPhones you can still text via the wireless internet. A waitress at a local restaurant told us that Verizon is the carrier in the area. Having mentioned this, I still want to make it clear that our goal for vacation was to get away from some incredibly stressful life circumstances at home, and it was good to have some limits forced on us for our technology use.,,,and not to hear a phone ring. My 14 year old could have used some advanced warning...but she survived just fine...and spent some more time with the family. We had a great family vacation and would recommend it to family and friends.

Wonderful Stay in Flagstaff
Wonderful Stay in Flagstaff
We really enjoyed staying at this property. The cabin was very clean and everything about it was very nice. It is roomy and even with 7 people staying there, it did not feel crowded. The back deck overlooks a very pretty area with a little stream. We enjoyed watching the birds from the back deck. We hope to stay here again in the future!

We loved staying at the Elk Creek Chalet! The house is spacious, well appointed, nicely furnished, and located in a beautiful forest setting. My husband, teenage sons, two dogs, and I all thoroughly enjoyed our stay! The owners, James and Lorna, are wonderful as well. We look forward to a return visit some day!

We had the greatest time! Your home was a great central location for visiting all the attractions we wanted to see like the Grand Canyon and Petrified Forest. We also enjoyed hiking many of the area trails. It was great to come back each night to a comfortable, cozy home. We really enjoyed sitting on the deck watching the birds. My son was very excited to see a fox one morning. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home. We really enjoyed it.

Year Purchased: 2006
About the owner: Most years we would visit Flagstaff in the summer to escape the heat and in the winter for some skiing. One year we planned a family reunion of sorts and rented a cabin in Kachina village. Needless to say we just fell in love with Kachina village. It is close enough to Flagstaff proper to feel connected but far enough away to feel out of the city. We also fell in love with the many hiking trails throughout Kachina village which backs up the Forest Service land. So many options and different hikes to take practically in our back yard. There is also a Dog friendly hiking trail where many people allow friendly dogs off their leashes to run free and frolic in the Creek which is usually running about 10 months of the year. We call this trail dog heaven (AKA - Pump House Wash Trail) and our dogs know the second we pack the car from Phoenix where we are going. We would prefer to live here most of the year but alas our jobs keep us in Phoenix for the time being.
Why the Owner Chose Flagstaff:
Our dogs fell in love with the neighborhood and so did we the first time we stayed here. We fell in love with the community and never like to leave.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
The peace and serenity of listening to birds sing in the clean mountain air is a joy that cannot be adequately described. You just have to experience it for yourself!
