We were so excited when we arrived to find this beautiful home to be all that was described in reviews. The house was warm and comfy with everything you could need from satellite to internet, washer and dryer, and all the little things you forgot to pickup at the store before you got there. The location was perfect! We had already planned on visiting the national parks listed and Best Friends, and we made it to all, very convenient to each one for a day of hiking, or sightseeing. Hiking right out the backdoor was a treat, you could head out at sunrise for an early morning hike to start your day, and the full moon rising over the barn was gorgeous. The walk to town was just a couple of blocks. When we weren't grilling out, we tried some of the local restaurants including the ice cream shop. The shop owners were all very friendly and helpful, you could find most anything you needed. Can you tell? We really enjoyed our stay, would love to go back and highly recommend the Red Horse Ranch.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Ahhh, what a nice review with all the little details that let everyone know that Red Horse Ranch is all that we claim it to be. Having people enjoy our home really makes it home.

Had a wonderful time staying at the Red Horse Ranch a few weeks ago with my wife and two children (6 and 4). We were looking for a place a bit off the beaten path and also close (relatively speaking) to Zion and Bryce. The house worked out perfect for us. Although close to the center of town, it's in a quiet neighborhood and it borders right up against the plateau that you can see in the picture. Behind the house is a hiking trail that winds around the red rocks. We enjoyed watching the sun rise over the plateau to the east from the kitchen window (chilly mornings)...and then enjoyed sitting out on the deck and watching the sunset over the plateau to the west. When you step in the house, you realize it really is more of a home. It's not 2010 modern with stainless steel everywhere, nor is it the Ritz-Carlton, but it's very comfortable and I really felt I was staying at a friend's house rather than at a vacation rental. It was clean on arrival and we had no trouble with any of the appliances. The house was loaded with maps and vacation guides and books, I brought 3 books on the trip and ended up reading none of them as I lost myself in a few I found at Carla's house. There was a swingset in back which was loved by our kids. Kanab is an interesting town, much, much sleepier (to our surprise) than Moab where we've stayed before. It was nice not having to deal with the crowds, and certainly much less touristy. The visitor center at Zion was about an hour away, the visitor center at Bryce was about 90 minutes away, and Page was about 75 min away. Would have loved to seen the North Rim of the Grand Canyon but the road won't open until May. The concern I always have with using VRBO is that you are dealing with an unknown quantity (ie the owner), but after reading the reviews here I felt that we'd probably be OK, and we certainly were. Carla was helpful from the get-go, answering all our questions and giving us some helpful hints. Our deposit was returned promptly. Bottom line--great time, great rental, great rate as well for what you get. We'd come back in a second.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with young children, sightseeing.
Owner response: We do feel that our guests are visiting us even though we are not there. Most of our guests understand that and appreciate our humble home and its country peace. These guests were some of our best; leaving the place in wonderful condition for the next people to arrive. The secret of Kanab's ideal location and its sleepy quiet feel is still mostly a secret. Unlike so many other pristine places that are now overun with crowds, Kanab remains a haven perched on the bank of a quiet, creek with a wonderful view of the Best Show on Earth.

This is a great place: close to shopping and restaurants, but with a real rural feel to it. There's a mountain in the backyard! We stayed here with our dog, heading out every day to explore Grand Staircase/Escalente. As a couple, the main floor had everything we needed. For a larger group, there are two additional bedrooms and another bath upstairs. Carla is a very caring landlord, confirming all details, and checking in to be sure everything was as it should be. Quite a lovely place to stay, reasonably priced, and we'd recommend it highly!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

A great private location in the heart of all that southern Utah and northern Arizona has to offer. Owner is easy to work with and very accommodating to those hesitant to lease from a private party. Carla went out of her way to make everything comfortable. The house is warm and welcoming. Everything is just as stated and pictured. From this Kanab location we were able to take day trips to Zion, Grand Canyon, Lake Powell, and Bryce. Watching husband climb the Vermillion Cliffs in the back yard up to the "K" was a treat. In early October we experienced mostly warm sunshine...though the last day it snowed in Bryce! The gift of a cd and native rock was a nice touch. Thank you Carla for sharing your home!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: We absolutely love sharing our home and appreciate that our guests seem so grateful to be able to use our little ranch at the base of the "K" on the hill. You can hike for days right from our doorstep if you are so inclined. I don't know how we do it but we always get the most considerate guests!

If you are looking for a beautiful, inviting and relaxing place to stay, you have found it at the Red Horse Ranch. Secluded, yet close to town, this property is for you. The house was spotless and comfortable, well stocked & we felt at home. Carla, the property owner was so friendly & accommodating, and quick to respond to emails & questions. She gave friendly advice & directions. Carla's mother's beautiful artwork adorned the walls and the decor was tastefully Utah. We enjoyed the deck and the view of the Vermillion Cliffs and the night sky. We only stayed 4 nights, but I wish we would have stayed longer. We flew to Nevada, went to the West & South Rim of the Grand Canyon prior to driving to Kanab. It is definitely the place to stay if you want to see the North Rim (which I found more beautiful than the South), Glen Canyon, Zion, Bryce & Grand Staircase. We rappelled, hiked and had a wonderful time enjoying the scenery which is so different from Pennsylvania. This was to be my bucket-list vacation, but there are so many trails and canyons to hike that we will definitely be repeat customers. This property was the best location to visit all of these areas, centrally located and with so much to do, even around town. We rappelled at Water Canyon, hiked Angels Landing and the Narrows at Zion, Navajo & Peekaboo loops at Bryce, Willis Creek Narrows & Bull Valley Gorge at Grand Staircase Escalante and also hiked at Lees Ferry in Glen Canyon. We tried for 3 days to get a permit to the Wave. Our number was called, but only 1 permit was available, so we had to pass. We will definitely return to this beautiful home, not only because of the location, but the friendliness & ease in communicating with Carla, the property owner. Thank you, Carla, for sharing your beautiful home with us. We will forever remember your kindness.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: I just can't say it enough! We get the best guests! Love vacation rentaling!

This two story home was clean and comfortable. The large kitchen was well stocked and included a large refrigerator/freezer. We did our own cooking and shopped for groceries in Kanab. We found everything we needed as it is a small town. The home was wonderful in a beautiful setting. The highlight was the large deck with a table and grill. The sunrise and sunsets were amazing and the stars were so bright without city lights to interfere. The "rock" close to the deck reflected the light of the sun and stars. A beautiful relaxing place, very quiet. We sat outside on the deck until late at night. The bedrooms are large with comfortable mattress. The furniture is very nice with TV and CD player. We didn't use the TV as we went to Zion and Bryce hiking during the day. WiFi worked great, no problems with getting on line. Our reservations and communication with the owner was good. Very prompt replies to questions. I would highly recommend this home. We had a great vacation.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank you for this wonderful review. I will have to sit down and relax next time I am back working on the house and notice the reflection of the stars and moon on the rock work near the deck! One of our favorite tennants who left the house spotless when they departed..thank you. Our TV isn't a flat screen and some say we ought to put in a sleek flat screen, but we figure most of our guests, like you, don't come to watch TV! The view outside our kitchen door is just fantastic. But that's Utah..."Best Show on Earth".

We weren't sure when we booked it whether we'd be in a good spot to tour the major parks of southern Utah and the Grand Canyon North Rim, but the house proved to be the perfect base. It is close to Zion, Bryce and the Grand Canyon North Rim, as well as many other great spots for hiking and touring in the area (Antelope Canyon, Toadstools, The Wave, Lake Powell etc.). Even the other parks/places (Canyonlands, Arches, Goblin Valley and Moab) are within reach depending on how far you want to drive. Kanab itself is a nice, quiet little town with some good spots to eat when you're too tired from the hikes to cook dinner. As for the house, it's in a beautiful, quiet little spot and is well equipped for all your needs. Carla has a gem of a home and it is great quality for the price paid. We'd return and we'd recommend it to anyone.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: The secret is out! Kanab is the best location in the Southwest! It's charm almost outdoes its location. Red Horse Ranch in our eyes, is the best peice of property in town too I do need to work on getting information out about all the great things to do in the area. This review is super helpful in telling travelers about the positively perfect location we have. It is all about Location! Location Location Location!

We had identified the area around Kanab as a great base for exploring some of the major National Parks in the area: Zion, Bryce and Grand Canyon North Rim, but also the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument (GSENM), one of the largest and diverse parks in the US. After travelling through Utah (Bonneville Flats, Salt Lake City, Canyonlands NP, Arches NP) and the west of Colorado (Mesa Verde NP) for almost 10 days we were looking for a nice place to relax, still being able to do day trips to major NP. Kanab is definitely the best spot for this. The town offers everything you need and Carla's Red Horse Ranch is a beautiful, quiet refuge close to town, even the GSENM Visitor Center is in walking distance. The house a well-equipped for 6 to 7 people, has a lot of stuff to explore, especially for kids, just the horses are missing ;-) Carla is a great person to deal with; we had a lot of good conversations long before the trip. Everything is professionally taken care of and also thanks to Pam, her property manager, to quickly resolve the tiny issue we had during our stay. Here is just an advice for people who never visited the south of Utah during late August / early September. Utah gets a lot of Thunderstorms, basically every day starting around noon time, sometimes later in the afternoon. Start your activities early in the morning, try to be back around lunchtime and enjoy the thunderstorms rolling in and beautiful colored landscape in the afternoon safely from the ranch and watch the colorful rainbows and the sunset from the deck afterwards. The GSENM area provides more than just the major national parks. There are plenty of gulches / slot canyons, the Paria Townsite, Lake Powell for swimming and/or boating and tons of excellent hikes. Due to the thunderstorms many of the dirt roads a getting washed out or even flushed away, so bringing a 4WD with high clearance (or at least a car with high clearance and no fear, a shovel and a handful of strong family members) is certainly a good advice, if you want to explore some of the less common attractions. Check with the visitor center, they provide latest updates on road and slot canyon closures. We are definitely planning on going coming back some day.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Don't you just love great reviews like this one! So much good advice! It is true that the thunderstorms are supposed to come in the afternoons in July and August but lately, it hasn't been on schedule. Utah has had a drought for the last 10 years and now you never know if you will get these storms or not. This year was more typical, and we got some great storms while Jens and his family were there. They were kind enough to send us pictures of the rainbow and also of thier family on the deck. By the way, Red Horse Ranch should perhaps be named Rainbow Ranch as Rainbows seem to be attracted to that spot. I have seen the end of the Rainbow right on the corner of our property many times and it does glow like a pot of gold!

Awesome place to stay, central to Grand Canyon, Bryce, Zion, Coral Pink Sand Dunes, etc. Kanab is an enjoyable small town. The Red Horse Ranch offers views of the red cliffs in the back yard as well as south all the way to Kaibab National Forest 35 miles south. Quiet, quite private. Enjoyed the prairie falcons in the yard in the AM, the cottontails and jack rabbits in the PM. Easy walk to town for groceries or dinner. Enjoyed grilling on the back porch. Don't miss the rock gift shop in Kanab - they make a lot of their own sandstone sculpture and have great prices.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Yes the rock shop and also Frontier Movie Town are great spots to hit in town. I miss walking into town and the view of the Kiabab!

Our family (including our dog) had a great time at Red Horse Ranch. The layout of the home was perfect for a family of 5. We were able to hike just outside the back door. We spent time at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary and Zion. The house is in a great location and Kanab is a great town to calm a busy family. Totally had a great time.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: We completley agree that the home is comfortable and awsome for hiking or horseback ridiing right outside the door! The town and the house are certainly blessed with peace and tranquility.

We had a great time in Kanab at Carla's place. We found it to be ideally located for all the hiking areas we were interested in; from the North rim of the grand canyon to Zion, to Bryce Canyon. Had a great time, used the BBQ one night, hiked up the mountain in back of the house, etc. Everything we needed was at the house and it was very comfortable (even with very hot days). The town was nice, had grocery stores, restaurants and a Pizza Hut for an easy nights dinner. Would definitely come back. Thank You.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.
Owner response: Yes, Kanab is a nice town that offers so much. You can travel the world and not find a place as wonderful as our little town of Kanab.

What a wonderful home for our family's 5 day stay in Kanab. Our teenage kids loved climbing on the cliffs right behind the house as we watched on the spacious deck. Each evening we enjoyed dinner in this spot at sunset. The kitchen which opened to the den was wonderful for preparing breakfast (the kids ate on stools at the breakfast bar) as well as dinner and packing lunches for 9 people for the day's outings (my sister in law's family and aunt stayed at another local VRBO but joined us at the Red Horse Ranch for meals). We had plenty of room for all! The WIFI and air conditioning worked great, the beds were comfortable, and the linens plentiful. We loved how spacious and secluded the home is yet close to everything. Within an hour and a half we were able to visit Bryce and Zion Canyons, (highly recommend renting hiking sticks, and neoprene socks and boots from Zion Adventures to hike "The Narrows") the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, and the "Wire Pass" hike to see the beautiful slot canyons (bring plenty of water). If we had had one more day we would have visited Lake Powell. Our stay was so quiet, relaxing, and comfortable. After sightseeing and hiking all day it was wonderful to come "home" to Red Horse Ranch. I would definitely recommend and rent again and again! :)Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank you for the wonderful review. Makes us home sick. You really captured the beauty of staying at Red Horse Ranch.

We had a great time. From Kanab, we: • Hiked to Wire Pass (my son was too scared to do the first rock scramble…it was tough…so we didn’t make it to far into the canyon); • Hiked to and around the Rimrock Toadstools; • Hiked up Observation Point (Zion); • Hiked the Virgin River Narrows. We did our grocery shopping at Honey’s Jubilee. Nice place & people. We had a dinner at the Rocking V (delicious) and had takeout pizza from Lotsa Motsa (not bad, not good). The house was a great place to unwind & recharge. It was very clean, spacious, and quiet. The cooling system worked like a charm. The beds were comfortable. Linens were plentiful. The showers were nice and hot with good water pressure. The house was well equipped. The gas grill helped us cook a great bratwurst dinner. Indoor and outdoor seating was comfortable. We loved the deck, the patio, and all the grounds. The owner obviously takes a lot of pride in the landscaping. We saw more healthy and varied plant life at this house than in any other place we visited during our trip. It was also nice to have a hose right outside the front door to rinse the persistent Utah dust off of our hiking boots and our car. The house was easy to find and while private, was very convenient to Kanab’s commercial district. I highly recommend Red Horse Ranch.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Well this review really captures the finer details of Kanab and Red Horse Ranch. Thank you! It is nice that you noticed our rich visitation of wild life, although you must have missed the deer that usually pass through. The property is quite large so keeping up with the landscaping is a real challenge. All are welcome to pull any goatheads or tumble weeds that you may see!

The house is centrally located for anything you want to do in southern Utah and northern Arizona. It's nice to be out doing activities during the day and have a place to come "home" to in the evenings with all the amenities and space instead of a hotel room. It was also nice to be on the edge of town giving us a little seclusion (and great views). My retired parents were with us and enjoyed shopping around Kanab while we were out hiking. My nephews enjoyed looking for lizards in the afternoons and evenings. We just returned from a four night stay at the Red Horse Ranch and our family of four plus dog had a wonderful time! Carla's home is incredible, set right at the base of the vermilion cliff with the "K" for Kanab. We hiked up to the sign twice while enjoying everything the ran had to offer (comfortable beds, deck for grilling, star gazing, view of the valley and sunsets, stables, etc). The surroundig area is tough to beat - we drove to Bryce Canyon, Coral Pink Sand Dunes, volunteered at Best Friend's Animal Sanctuary, visited Zion and went on a guided tour to a slot canyon, Native American site and saw dinosaur tracks (tour provider is Dreamland Safari and the owner, Will, is a great guy!). We ate at the Rocking V three nights, go there! The cherry on top was spending the Fourth with the family in Kanab. You simply cannot beat Carla's view of the firework show. Walk up a little way on her hill and there is a nice concrete landing to set up your chairs. Take a seat and enjoy! The town spends a lot of money on the fireworks, the show is amazing, and the backdrop of the vermilion cliffs makes for an unforgettable experience. Thanks again Carla for opening your home to us, we loved our trip!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, sightseeing.
Owner response: What a great review of your stay, you can really get a lot accomplished in four nights. I have always thought that Kanab has the best fire works show around and our house is the best seat you can find to watch it!

My friend and I just returned from 3 nights at Red Horse Ranch. Our stay was part of a girlfriend's trip and the location could not have been more perfect. We explored Zion and Lake Powell primarily, as our trip was short. For the past 5+ years I've been renting property on vrbo.com and this experience was absolutely ideal: Inquiry & Booking: The owner was fantastic about fast response via email, flexibility, clear communication, and easy payment, plus a simple contract and invoice. I felt very secure throughout the process. Arrival: The owner provided directions, access/entrance to the property was easy, and the property manager was always available for questions. The house was absolutely tidy, with plenty of linens left out for our arrival. The kitchen is well stocked and organized with everything you need to cook. Wifi worked great and was absolutely helpful. There is a guidebook with tips on activities, meals, etc., as well as a plentiful stash of maps and attraction brochures. Property: The three bedrooms are simple, neat and wonderfully quiet--so relaxing! Bathrooms are well appointed and the showers are nice and hot with great water pressure; just perfect after a day of hiking. There's a big tub in the master bath, if you prefer a soak after a long day. Be sure to enjoy the beautiful views from the deck. Even on a cool night, it was a pleasure to relax with a glass of wine and write postcards to friends and family. And the night sky is amazing! The walk to town really is easy, and a nice way to experience Kanab. A (sometimes high maintenance) New Yorker, I found great coffee at Laid Back Larry's and at Linda Lea's (they open at 7 if you don't feel like making coffee/breakfast), and I also loved our dinner at Rocking V (we went back twice!) The only regret is that we didn't have more time! Red Horse Ranch was a lovely stay and I would definitely recommend it. Thank you to Carla and family for sharing your wonderful home!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We have rented quite a number of vacation homes. Without a doubt Red-Horse Ranch is in the top two. The house was very clean and well equipped upon our arrival. The beds are just like at home. The blanket in the master bedroom reminded me of my grandmother's house. We met Pam, the caretaker. She is very helpful and answered our questions. Carla you must keep this woman at all expense. We visited all the usual places. Believe it or not there was a big weather system while we were there. The desert is still very interesting and beautiful even in the rain. I would highly recommend this house for your Southwest vacation retreat. We greatly enjoyed our stay at Red Horse Ranch, and were thankful for how the house was cleaned and prepared by Pam for the arrival of our party which included one toddler. The house itself was almost too comfortable and with its pretty views we ended up taking our time before heading out each day to Zion/Bryce/Paria/Grand canyons as well as Coral Sands Park and jaunts around Kanab. Thanks of course to Carla for making her home available, as well as for so quickly responding to all questions we had before booking and traveling. We made good use of the kitchen and had no trouble finding groceries locally. The location was better for us than Springdale would have been as traveling longer distances each day with an infant is not fun for anyone, and we ran out of time to go to all that we hoped to see in the area, especially The Wave in the Paria area. There was a lot of space for indoor and outdoor relaxing in the house, and we will be recommending the house and surrounding attractions for family and friends and fellow strangers on the interwebs.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We travelled from Phoenix with 3 families and had the best stay our lives in Red Horse Ranch. From the moment we reached we knew it was going to be special. We barbecued, drank and had a great time in the evenings. The ranch was clean, well maintained and was spacious enough for 3 families. The kids had a blast as well. We visited Zion and Bryce Canyons during daytime and on both days were looking forward to come back to the ranch in teh evenings and to have a great time. Although we did not visit any restaurants we can certainly vouch that the ranch is at walking distance from anywhere you want to go in Kanab for a good meal. If we ever decide to visit Utah again, we will have no hesitation to relive the nostalgia by visiting Red Horse ranch one more time. Thanks for the happy memories.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with young children, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

We spent five days in Kanab (and boating on Lake Powell) and we loved our stay! The home had everything we needed, and we were very comfortable. The Red Horse Ranch gave us the time to rejuvenate! The property was clean and well-maintained. I would definitely recommend this VRBO to friends and family. We would go back in a heartbeat--we didn't get to see much of Kanab! My favorite memory of Red Horse Ranch were the cute little birds that came in the late afternoon to eat from the many sunflowers outside the kitchen window! Priceless!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, sightseeing.

We spent a week at Red Horse Ranch and found it to be an excellent base from which to see many of the National and State Parks. The grounds were well kept and the house was very clean. The kitchen is well equipped together with a bar-b-q on the nice outside deck. Close to grocery stores and restaurants. We especially enjoyed the Rocking V and Houstons. Would recommend reservations at Rocking V in that during high season you can expect a wait of up to an hour or more. Wi-Fi worked like a charm. Cable TV available with basic stations. Owner was great to work with and we would very much recommend this VRBO for families looking for a great base to explore the area.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, sightseeing.

The Red Horse Ranch was such a welcoming, cozy, safe, comfortable, homey, perfect place for our family of four to stay for our tour of the Canyons. We saw Zion, Bryce, Antelope and of course the Grand Canyon while we stayed here. Each was a short trip from the Red Horse Ranch. We were able to cook many of our meals, mostly breakfast and dinner. The huge refrigerator held our groceries. We were able to pack a picnic lunch most days as well. The restaurants in Kanab were also wonderful. Our favorite was Houston's (fabulous Quesadillas). We felt like the house was our home away from home. It is now a wonderful memory for our family to share.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, sightseeing.
Owner response: I'm envious that you visited Antelope Canyon as well! Our house is so close (within 1 1/2 hour) and I have only seen pictures of it. It is worth the trip for sure. Several of our guests have mentioned the wonderful restaurants in Kanab. Don't miss Escobar's Mexican Restaurant, and drinks at Frontier Movie Town. Rocking V restaurant has a charming atmosphere and grommet food.

May 29, 2010 - June 2, 2010 The house was clean, comfortable and well equipped. The beds were comfortable and the showers had good water pressure. The wifi worked great! We were a group of 6 adults. We were comfortable gathered around the dining table for meals and to play cards. The living room accommodated all of us and a few of us were able to get together in the kitchen to prepare meals together. The deck provided a nice area to relax and enjoy the quiet and peacefulness of the setting. It also offered a nice view of the star lit sky at night. The location was great, nestled in a quiet location yet walking distance to town. There are at least 2 grocery stores in town and a few gift shops, gas stations, restaurants, old movie sets and a "Wonderstone" store at the end of town, next to the museum. The home is pretty centrally located to many attractions. The National Parks (Zion, Bryce Canyon and Grand Canyon North rim) and Lake Powell are with in one to two hours away. I recommend staying a Red Horse Ranch and hope to stay there again in the future.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: I love this review. I can picture everybody in the evenings playing cards, cooking meals, talking on the deck and enjoying the great water pressure in the shower. I see everyone feeling good and the house is smiling and gives a great sigh at the end of the day. I can also imagine that first walk out on to the deck each morning as the bright sky greets you after a sound sleep and the last star fades into the blue light of the daytime sky and it is time for a new adventure that day. The rabbits are enjoying the morning and the deer have disappeared until nightfall. Below, the town is just waking up, and you are standing on the deck in your underwear because no one can see you---probably--and if they do, you don't care because life is good.

Wonderful place to stay with pets. We spent three days at Red Horse ranch as a headquarters from which to see Bryce, Zion, and the coral sand dunes. The house was very cozy and stayed cool even in the heat of the day. We discovered a lovely hike up a canyon with a view back down on Kanab and went there every morning to start the day. The property manager dropped by to see us on the first evening and provided great suggestions for restaurants and other needs. The back deck was a lovely place to wind down at the end of a day of sight seeing. We hope to return again.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, pet owners, sightseeing.
Owner response: Usually temperatures in Kanab in the summer do not get above 90 degrees Fahrenheit but on occasion, I have seen it get to 108! The house usually stays amazingly cool even on the hottest of days, but the upstairs can get warm. We cool the house with evaporative cooling and to maximize the effect of this system, it is important to crack some windows upstairs about 2 inches, close the bathroom door and open the bedroom doors. This way, the cool air moves through the house and reaches the upstairs bedrooms. There are also fans in the bedrooms and ceiling fans.

May 19, 2010 Property is true to description provided, walking distance to downtown while still somewhat secluded from neighbors. Fifty yards in back is BLM land which is wonderful place for a walk. House has everything you need to be comfortable. We especially enjoyed having breakfast on the deck, lots of birds if you are into birdwatching. Easy drive to Zion and Bryce Canyon. The Three Bears Cafe has excellent ice cream. The Rewind Cafe serves up a good salad. There is a rock shop on the edge of town that was our favorite place to shop. They actually make beautiful sculptures and "rock pictures" from local rock. Carla is excellent to work with!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, pet owners, sightseeing.
Owner response: There is now a new trail that has been built which goes directly behind our house and is for hikers and horseback riders. The trail joins beautiful Tom's Canyon to Pue Canyon via the cliffs above the golf course. The trail is a easy hike and is being maintained by the community. At the end of Pue Canyon, you find a waterfall that is usually at least dripping water, with ferns growing all around it. Tom's Canyon is a stone's throw from the house to the northwest and is an easy hike that ends in a beautiful box canyon. I have spent many hours riding my horse here and now it is an official trail.

Lots of room in the House. All you need. Quiet and yet so close to a GREAT SUPERMARKET that gives you 30 cents off gas when you buy from them. Deer came to eat in yard at dusk. One cannot hear the town. Feels like you are alone with the rock formation in the back yard that looms above the surface like a mountain. You will enjoy UTAH and ARIZONA from here.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, pet owners, sightseeing.
Owner response: Yes, there is a deer trail that goes behind our house and we see sometimes 8 at a time. If you see them in the yard, please ask them to kindly not eat all the leaves off the cherry trees! They can devour a whole tree in one night! Also watch for them when you drive up the little road leading to the house. Both supermarkets in town offer gas discounts and also free carwash for filling up. Kanab is a great place.

We had a wonderful time in Kanab and the Red Horse Ranch was a perfect place to hang our hat for the week. The owners are very responsive to questions and obviously want you to enjoy your time in Kanab with many recreational and restaurant recommendations at the house. We also appreciated all the detailed information on their home when we arrived. The photos and description listed on VRBO are exactly what we found when we arrived. The home is very comfortable and roomy - and everything we needed in the kitchen was there! We would definitely recommend the house to others and if we return to the area, would stay there again. Thanks so much for your hospitality and for sharing your home with us!Owner response: Tim and Kirstin were five star guests. Few people from out of state come to Kanab in the winter, yet Kanab is a wonderful place to be in the winter. The hiking temperature is wonderful on a sunny day, nearby skiing is fantastic and the parks are beautiful and less crowded. I remember that Tim and Kirstin were considering moving to Kanab in the future. I hope to meet you some day as a neighbor when we eventually return. Thank you Tim and Kirstin....Carla

This place is everything that the site says it is and more: super-clean, roomy yet cozy, well-appointed kitchen, comfy beds, spectacularly beautiful scenery out every window - complemented by gorgeous Southwest-themed artwork inside, and close to coffee shops and national parks alike. In short, a perfect vacation spot!Owner response: Cathy, We loved your kind review! I know you plan to return for a visit and you are always welcome at our house. It was nice to know that it was in such good hands. And thank you for all your homeopathic advice! .....Carla

29/08/2009 Staying in Kanab at the red horse ranch was a wonderful experience. The house was so clean and comfortable. There was an amazing amount infomation provided about the house and the local area. We were made to feel very welcome. The location of the house is central for so many places to visit. Although we were out every day sightseeing, we find that there are still many places we would like to see. we can't wait for our return to the Red horse ranch and Kanab. It nice to stay in holiday accommadation and feel valued.Owner response: Mary, Thank you for pointing out that you felt valued as our guest. We really do value our guests and we feel that having so many wonderful people like you, stay at our house, adds character and aesthetic value to our home. Red Horse Ranch is just perfect! We spent 5 wonderful nights here in June 2009 Close to all the area's beautiful sites. So comfortable you will feel right at home after your days activities. Quiet and so close to town you can walk. You can even hike from the house if you like. You can't go wrong with this place. Thanks so much for sharing this wonderful place with us! Its a trip we will always cherish.Owner response: Your comment is much appreciated and reminds us why we bought this house. It was pretty rundown and had been empty for two years as it was a bit overpriced and although many were interested in buying it, no one was willing to pay a price that was more than the appraisal. We felt the same way you did about the place. It is quiet, walking distance to town and yet you can do gorgeous hikes right from our back door. We sat on the cliffs above the house in 1998 and watched the 4th of July fireworks show and decided then and there that this was the place and that there was no other like it in town.....Carla

We stayed at Red Horse Ranch duringt this Memory Day long weekend. It was a very nice trip and stay. The house was clean and cozy. Very cloase to Zion and Bryce Canyons, also not far from Grand Canyon. We will definitely come back!Owner response: Robin was my first inquiry on VRBO and I will never forget him, even though I have never met him. It was so exciting to get that first inquiry as we started our big adventure! When he and his friends left, there was a faint aroma of Asian cooking in the house. It smelled yummy!.......Carla

We live in Italy and our vacation to Southern Utah was our best family vacation ever. Everything was perfect with so many things to see and do. Our kids were crying when it was time to leave the Red Horse Ranch. They had never seen so many stars or purple sunsets like the ones they saw in Kanab. Even the great Mexican food at the diner close by is the subject of conversation when they go down memory lane.Owner response: Thank you Leo for leaving such a heartfelt review. Your family is welcome anytime you are in Kanab. Say hello to the kids for us. You have an awesome family. Red Horse Ranch misses you too....Carla

Kanab was just a short drive from Las Vegas and a great way to get away with my girlfriends for the weekend! If you like the scenery of Sedona, Arizona, you will love Kanab; it is a much quieter, "small-town" version. I was also allowed to keep my horse there for the weekend (which is hard to find) and went on a beautiful ride! You will enjoy your stay!Owner response: Kara, You are exactly right that Kanab offers as much as Sedona, Az. with our beautiful red rock scenery. It is a well kept secret that we live in the most beautiful place around! I hope that you can return with your horses for another trail riding adventure. I hope in the future, more people will take advantage of bringing their horses to the house to ride. Spread the word....Thank you...Carla

My family has stayed at Red Horse Ranch several times over the years. Every time we visit, we talk about moving to the area some day. The Vermillion cliffs are amazing, the town of Kanab is friendly and quaint and centrally located to a wide variety of incredible canyons and vistas. If you want to visit a piece of paradise, you can't go wrong with the Red Horse Ranch.Owner response: Steve, I hope you take advantage of your close proximity to us and travel to Kanab often to refresh your spirit. You should definitely move to Kanab and get out of that heat in Phoenix! We would love for you to be our neighbor. You can bring your swimming pool with you too! Kanab needs more swimming pools...lol...Carla
