Main Channel - Charming 1940'S Cottage

Our home is a 1940's era summer cottage. We're on a small peninsula of similar homes with an acre point lot jutting into the lake. These homes were built by a group of Charlotte businessmen as summer cottages for their families some 3 generations ago. The property was part of a large farm and for years the original farmhouse stood as the 'clubhouse' where Sunday school and sermons were held for summer residents and boaters who pulled up alongside the point and listened from the water. The property has a modern claim to fame: scenes from the movie 'Days of Thunder' with Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman were filmed on the point and in the old clubhouse. We'll leave a copy here for you to watch!
We're on the main Lake Wylie channel and you meander down a 2.6 mile road through the luxury community of The Sanctuary to reach us. This is a designated wildlife protection area where you'll see deer, fox, ospreys and other wildlife.
We enjoy spectacular sunsets from our sun room, which is glass on 3 sides. You'll love sipping your evening cocktail from under the umbrella on our deck or down on the covered dock.
We have kayaks, tubes, floats and bikes for you to enjoy - or you can grab a rod and tackle box from the closet and try your hand at catching one of our huge catfish. We have a rumored 'sweet spot' right off our dock - and the water goes from a few feet to around 20 feet at the end of the dock.
Enjoy grilling or even your own fish fry on the covered dock. Please pick from our garden (in the summertime if we're not in a drought): fresh tomatoes, herbs, peppers are right outside your door.
We know you'll love our cozy home just as much as we do. And just like our other friends - you'll never want to leave!

From the minute we drove through what seemed to be a private driveway, our expectations were met on every level. There was nothing we could want for in this delightful home. How surprised we were to even find a big screen TV. That was a wonderful surprise. Then Ray came and fixed the hot tub for us. Thank you Ray.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

We have gone to Charlotte the past couple of years on New Year's to see a band in concert. Instead of staying at a hotel downtown we decided to check into other options outside of the city and found this wonderful place! We stayed for 3 nights and it was so relaxing and peaceful and the sunsets truly are amazing on the lake. We like to travel with our our two dogs and they absolutely loved the giant field adjacent to the house to run around in. We plan to come back here next New Years and hopefully in the Spring or summer so we can really enjoy the lake and go swimming, fishing, and kayaking!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

We stayed at this lovely Sanctuary cottage during Christmas so we could be close to family. The owner was very accommodating and made us feel at home. The house was just as described and the owner was very helpful with our questions and providing information about the area. This is a very neat, clean, roomy cottage with a spectacular view. I would highly recommend this house for 4-5 people. We could not enjoy the summer activities but we will return during warmer months. One of the best VBRO experiences we have had. No surprises, everything we needed was provided.Recommended for: People with disabilities, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

My family had a wonderful time at the lake house. Everything was clean, spacious and comfortable. My dad loved the HUGE flat screen TV! There are DVD's, puzzles, and board games for your enjoyment or if it isn't raining and you're really wanting to relax, there is a hot tub on the back deck. We also enjoyed kayaking up the shoreline with the provided kayaks and fishing off the dock for catfish. Thank you for a wonderful vacation!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

This was just right for our family. We didn't want to spend a lot on this vacation and this was just what we were looking for. I am a germ/clean freak and I was comfortable here. The views are wonderful, great location right on the water. The owners, Ray and Deb, are fantastic people and we could tell how hard they have worked to think of everything to make a great vacation for their guests. We hope to be back soon. Thanks so much Ray and Deb!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

I have used VRBO before and had a good experience so when we decided to make a trip to NC to visit my son and family, I did a lot of looking for a place on Lake Wylie for 2 weeks. This choice was the best! My grandkids 4 1/2 and 6 went swimming everyday and sometimes three times a day. They had on lifejackets so they enjoyed jumping off the end of the dock and making big splashes. My sons used the kayaks and the fishing gear. One of the boys did catch a big catfish, about 6 pounds! The grandkids were excited about the fish but really had the most fun feeding bread to the fish. When we weren't outside, the grandkids were entertained by all the movies at the cottage for kids. Also there were a few games they could play and loved the Twister. Ray and Deb have thought of everything to make the stay memorable. From the beginning of the day to the end with spectacular sunsets, it was a great experience.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.

We had such a great time during our stay. The cottage looks just like the pictures in the listing. We were all impressed with the comfortable homey feel. It's spotlessly clean; has luxurious linens; and the kitchen has everything you could ask for to prepare meals. We were also pleasantly surprised to have paper & plastic goods, bath and laundry supplies furnished. The best surprise for me was to have Deb's cooking spices available for our use. It would be difficult to find a better view of the lake. We relaxed just sitting enjoying the scenery. The kids had a great time jumping off the dock and swimming. Our grandchildren had just returned with us from a week at the beach and they also preferred the "lake cottage." Debbie and Ray were so helpful and cordial in all of our dealings. We thank them for sharing their home with our family. Hope to visit again!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

Every year we take our six grandkids for a few days to just spend time with them without the parents! We usually head to the beach but decided on a lake setting this year...what a great decision! Lake Wylie is beautiful and the cottage was perfect for us. The kids remarked that this was their "favorite" destination. They were water-logged by the end of the day...just how many times can kids jump off a dock??? They kayaked around the point, fished off the dock (one morning caught 17 fish), played games, and enjoyed the sunsets. We spent one day at the US Whitewater Center...a great side trip. Thanks to Deb and Ray for sharing their cottage with us. We are looking forward to a return visit.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

About the owner: Ray and I fell hard for this place the first time we saw it in the sunset while driving around the day after Christmas. We knew we had to have it. We moved from Florida in 2000 and love North Carolina and Lake Wylie - the changing seasons are our favorite mystery! Ray is a carpenter and I'm a corporate person. We love to be outdoors and I love to cook. We have spent many happy hours here with our children, families, friends and dogs. We hope to meet you soon! Deb & Ray
