Where 'ocean view’ and 'beachfront' are understatements!!!
This beachfront home has stunning architecture, views and location. With a somewhat funky, eclectic design and decor, it’s perfect for family, friends, or business getaways. Its many nooks and turns draw smiles from adults and kids alike.
The kitchen/dining/living area is open and spacious with large windows facing the ocean. There are three very separate bedrooms, each with ocean views and sliding glass doors to patio or atrium areas. From inside or on the decks, you can enjoy a panoramic ocean view from Santa Cruz to Monterey with miles of blue sea, birds, otters, and occasionally porpoises and migrating whales.
Outdoor areas: there is an atrium deck off the kitchen/living room that is a lovely, protected area for sunning, BBQ, or dining. The decks off the living room and dining room are perfect for taking in the ocean air and views.
Pajaro Dunes is a private gated community with 1½ miles of sandy beaches on Monterey Bay between Santa Cruz and Monterey. Along with full views of the Monterey Bay and the coastal mountains, Pajaro Dunes has 24-hour security, walking/biking/jogging trails, professional tennis courts, playing fields, volleyball and basketball courts (only a 5-minute walk to the nearest courts/fields). It’s a short drive to Santa Cruz (30 min), Monterey and Carmel (45 min) for restaurants, famous golf courses, the Monterey Bay Aquarium, Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk amusement park, or shopping.
The bedrooms are spread out and each have private or shared bathrooms, TV’s and ocean views:
Bedroom 1 – Master Suite: King bed, private bathroom with separate shower, bathtub, 26” TV with cable and DVD, ocean view, glass door to lower patio
Bedroom 2: King bed, adjacent full bathroom with washer/dryer, 14” TV with cable, ocean view, glass door to lower patio
Bedroom 3/Family Room: 5 twin beds (2 trundles + 1 twin), private full bathroom, 37” TV with cable, VHS video and DVD, glass door to interior deck area, ocean and valley/mountain views
Built in 1978 and featured in ads and home design magazines, this ~1,800 square foot home has a bit of an 80’s vibe and its homey, comfortable feeling will melt all your troubles away.

The photos do not do this home justice! This is a fabulous place for a girls get-away! We love the deck and enjoyed hours looking out onto the water hoping to spot dophins, otters, or in rare instances for October---whales! The beds are comfortable, the kitchen well equipped and very functional and the decor is very nice. We had the property management company give us everything we needed to start a fire on the beach--a must do! My friends and I have stayed here two years in a row and plan to spend next year here as well.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway.

My family and I had a most memorable stay in July at this beautiful home! Just looking out the window, we spotted otters frolicking and dolphins jumping in the waves. My two year old granddaughter couldn't get enough of the beach, just steps from the home. The owners were extremely accommodating, and were in fact at the site, making sure all was safe for our granddaughter. The home is clean, comfortable, and inviting. The location is perfect, between Santa Cruz and Monterey/Carmel. I can't wait to return!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway.
Owner response: We're so glad you had a wonderful time! We look forward to having you back in the future. Susan

This house is a throwback to the 60s - Don Draper goes to the beach. The home is really well equipped, clean and comfortable. The weather for our stay was poor and it appears that the cloud/mist covers the beach for most of the summer months. The sun is shining when you move inland 1 mile. There was lots of helpful info. For guests and we used this to help plan our days with the kids. The Henry cowell state park is well worth a visit. The photos and description accurately reflect this property. It's an ideal location for a family vacation. We would be happy to recommend this property.Recommended for: Families with young children.

This was our 3rd time staying here. What a great place! We never want to venture away from the house. Our 3 kids play on the beach the entire time we are there. We can watch them from the deck that overlooks the beach and the ocean. It's absolutely beautiful. Sunsets are amazing! The kitchen has been upgraded from last year, which makes the place even nicer. Looking forward to coming back again next year!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children, romantic getaway.

My family has been staying in houses at Pajaro Dunes since the 70's. And we ONLY stay in houses right on the beach. Although some of the houses in the 2nd and 3rd tiers are fun, we want the full appreciation of the beach you can only get right on the water... The view is amazing but there's also some benefits because we have children --to be able to sit on the deck and watch the kids play in the sand and be able to leave the windows open night or day and hear the ocean roaring without any othe buildings blocking our view/sound is mandatory!! As a child my family stayed in quite a few different houses so we could experience all of the different "beach" themes in the various houses. But we'd never made it to this house. This house is a completely fabulous throwback to the glory days of Pajaro! We absolutely loved every aspect of it. One night there was a raging rain storm and after everyone else went to bed I sat on the cozy orange built in wall couch plumped up with pillows and listened to the ocean and rain pound. I fell asleep and stayed there all night. It was as cozy as a bed! We had friends come and visit during our week and they loved it too (and like my husband, all are architects who appreciate not only the architecture of this house but the cool layout/design and decor!) This house exudes "beach" house from A to Z. A lot of houses at Pajaro are simply houses at the beach. This is a true blast of a BEACH HOUSE!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, families with young children, tourists without a car, age 55+, girls getaway.
Owner response: Oh my - this gave me goosebumps! Your sentiments mirror ours exactly. We'll make improvements over time, but we'll stay true to the architecture and 'throwback' it'll be. -Susan

In general, we enjoyed our stay at your house. In particular, we found the kitchen to be clean and well-equipped. The open design made for very fun cooking and socializing. However there are some shortcomings that make me hesitant to return. Most importantly, the king bed in the second bedroom sags badly in the two sleeping areas resulting in suboptimal sleep every night of our stay. Also, some down pillows would be a vast improvement. Secondly, the lighting in the living room is sorely inadequate. The ceiling lights, a couple of which appeared to be burned out, do not provide light for reading and the light from the one other lamp is unduly harsh and also inadequate for reading. This negatively impacts the after dark enjoyment of the living room. Making these improvements would go a long way to justifying the premium rental fee of a beachfront house.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children, tourists without a car.
Owner response: Thank you for your constructive feedback and I'm glad you had a nice stay. We'll check the bed mattresses right away - that's surprising as they're only one year old and premium-quality mattresses. As for the living room lighting, we will get those bulbs replaced right away and work on adding reading lamps. Susan

This is our second visit to this seaside vacation home which we shared with my sister's family. The unit has 5 star views of the ocean and is nicely laid out with two private master-type suites and a large 3rd room with two trundle beds and an additional twin in a nook. The kitchen is well-supplied and has great cookware if you like to cook. It is conveniently located at the head of the walkway from the parking lot. We've rented several units at Pajaro over the years and this is one of our favorites.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway.
Owner response: So glad all was fabulous with your 2nd visit and happy to hear the house is a favorite! We seem to feel the same way... While we are always trying to find ways to improve the home, the view is one thing we never have to touch. Susan

We were three generations (6 of us) and it was a perfect spot. The bedrooms were in three separate areas so we weren't bumping into each other! The location was ideal, beautiful sunsets and the weather cooperated. The kitchen is equipped with everything, made cooking a pleasure. A few electrical problems but the staff came over immediately and corrected it all. We hope to stay there again.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+.
Owner response: Thank you Shirley! I'm glad you had a good time and enjoyed the space. I hope you enjoyed the new kitchen appliances. I'm sorry you had an electrical glitch, but am glad they could fix it right away. Susan

Loved this place. Right on the beach with stairway to beach access one house away. Property was very clean and had all the amenities one needs. Plenty of supplies (TP, paper towels, napkins, coffee filters). No need to leave the property as the kitchen is fully equipped and well maintained. It's obvious that this home owner knows how to provide for their guests. Looking forward to next time!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway.

About the owner: That's us on the deck for July 4th. Out on the beach, we like to boogie board, skim board, jog or play games... or just walk, collect shells, sit, or read. Always something for everyone!
Why the Owner Chose Pajaro Dunes:
Our family started out by renting at Pajaro Dunes in the early 70's. We loved the diverse architecture of the houses, the wooden path boardwalks that wound throughout the resort, and the expansive, secluded beach. We felt it was a perfect place for escaping the hustle and bustle, easy to get to, and close to Santa Cruz, Monterey, and Carmel. We knew instantly that this was the house for us. It has such a fun, beach feel with all the wood and windows... It's cozy, bright and open, and has jaw-dropping views that instantly take you away. Its architecture with its nooks and turns make it a playfully interesting place.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
It's such a quick walk to the beach (1 minute) or the tennis courts (5 minutes), and there are so many paths to walk on to view the ocean and homes. There are many options for driving: a 15-minute drive into Watsonville for groceries or restaurants, Aptos/Capitola/Santa Cruz (within 30 min) for shopping, entertainment, restaurants, golf... And in the other direction, Monterey and Carmel and all they have to offer. There's also kayaking on the Elkhorn Slough about 10 minutes away.
