Location: Buena Vista, South Central, Colorado, USA (Buena Vista: 17 mi, Colorado Springs: 110 mi, Denver: 130 Mi)

Accommodations:  Cabin, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath (Sleeps 6)

Keywords:  Log Cabin

GENERAL
Cute, quaint, and comfortable cabin located at 9500 feet elevation in the heavily wooded, beautiful historic mining town of Alpine, Colorado. Three miles down the road from the historic mining town of St Elmo. The cabin is located within about two hundred hundred yards of Chalk creek, and also the beautiful Alpine lake, and sits directly in front of Antero and Boulder mountains. The back of the property is adjacent to the national forest and so the cabin is extremely private.

AMENITIES
The cabin is fully furnished for a comfortable stay and includes a fully furnished kitchen, and bathroom with shower. All guests will need to bring is personal toilet items and food. All linens, towels, and wash cloths will be provided. Sleeping accommodations are for six people and include: one bedroom down stairs with one double bed, and one bedroom upstairs with two double beds and a single cot.

Note: Cabin has a clothes washer but drying is by a clothes line (which works great and is very fast in the dry mountain air).

AREA ACTIVITIES AND ATTRACTIONS
The scenery here is amazing. There is a gorgeous view of both Mt Antero and Mt Boulder off the front deck. Cabin is adjacent to national forest, is extremely quiet and private, and provides a starting point with access to all the best spots in the area. The cabin is located only 1/4 mile from the jeep road that ascends to the summit of Mt Antero (one of the exclusive locations in the US where aquamarine is found). An advantage also unique to this property is that it provides a starting point for ATV, trail bike, or snow mobile access to all the high country without hauling or trailing. The off-road vehicles can be unloaded at the cabin, and then driven to Mt Antero, Mt Boulder, the ghost town of St Elmo, Hancock (town or pass), Tincup pass, and the various alpine lakes such as Baldin, Hancock, Pomeroy, etc.

A general store is located at St Elmo, which is an excellent place to purchase gift items, and also rent ATV’s for exploring the surrounding high country. Buena Vista (17 miles), and Salida (30 miles) provide all necessary shopping and also have many nice restaurants, plus various interesting shops. Monarch mountain is approximately 35 miles away and provides excellent skiing and yet is reasonably priced.

The Mt Princeton hot springs pools are located about 9 miles back down the mountain, as well as a convenience store for gas and food. A fine restaurant is also located at the Mt Princeton facility.

Horse stables which provide fantastic trail riding are also located about 7 miles from Alpine, close to the interesting chalk cliffs.

The Arkansas river is excellent fishing year round, and has an incredible Caddis hatch in the spring, and is located about 13 miles away. Local fishing is on Chalk creek (which flows within a couple of hundred yards of the cabin), and excellent fishing for larger cutthroat trout can be had in several of the high alpine lakes nearby. All of this trout water is accessible by ATV.

Hiking and ATV riding starts at the property and is as good as it gets anywhere in the Rocky Mountains.

LOCATION
Cabin is located in Chalk Creek Gulch on Highway 162, which intersects with Highway 285 between Buena Vista and Salida. It is approximately a two hour drive from the Colorado Springs airport, and a three hour drive from the Denver airport.

Coming here was a wonderfully peaceful stop along out way. The deer, chipmunks, and the beautiful scenery were just a few of the joys we experienced. Thank you for your hospitality.

We had a wonderful time! Thanks so much for sharing your home. We did a lot of 4-wheeling and a lot of trails were close so we enjoyed it. The mule deer and the squirrels are entertaining! Thanks!

My family would like to thank you for opening your home to us. It is beautiful and inspiring to be here in the mountains. We've experienced the Rapids, 4-wheeler trails, horseback riding, and hiking the trails near the cabin. We've seen lots of wildlife and mountain scenery. We hope to visit again and make a trip to the "Alpine Tunnel". Thanks and "God Bless you and yours", Raymond

This cabin makes a very relaxing get away in the woods. The views are gorgeous and the sound of the nearby rushing creeks is lovely. And with hiking trails right out the back door, the cabin is perfect for exploring Colorado. We also enjoyed having 3 double beds for our party of six, so no one ended up on a pull-out couch. Thanks to our gracious host.

We had a wonderful vacation - felt very "at home" here in the cabin. Disk golfing at Poncha Springs & Buena Vista was more beautiful than we could have imagined & the hot springs were well worth the visit! We started a fire in the stove each evening, watched the hummingbirds feed outside of the kitchen window & fumbled through the many stunning rocks/stones out front in the driveway & the living room. Thank you for sharing this piece of heaven with us! Kellie
