Surrounded by three unique mountain peaks and views of the Upper Wind River and it's surrounding wetland meadows Lava Mountain Lodge offers an affordable one stop vacation and recreation location. Wildlife abounds in all seasons, wolves, grizzly bears, black bears, moose, elk and deer are just some of our local residents.
The group log home (The Big House) is a true rocky mountain rustic home originally built for a ranching family. Some remodeling has been done in Spring of 2010. The history of this property goes back farther than statehood and is a hold out from the US Forest Service when creating the Shoshone National Forest. The property is one of the few non-Forest Service Lease properties in the area. The cabin right next to the house was originally built in 1916. The Kitchen area of the home was built some time before WWII and was for a time the original cabin. We have saved some old Tie Hack era cabins, some were too far gone and we are trying to save one more that has been hiding in the aspen trees for years (These will not be living space but will remain living history).
The home now consists of a double size step down living room with a large stone fire place (wood provided), satellite TV, Two sets of furniture and large picture windows overlooking the Upper Wind River and wetland meadows as well as Lava Mountain. In an open format the newly remodeled dining room has a 6 to 8 place dining table and chairs aside French doors looking to the north lawn. A small covered porch creates the main entry to the house. A new wrap around deck overlooks the river, mountains and meadows. The kitchen is fully equipped with a new four burner stove and two ovens, two bay sink, full size refrigerator and microwave and two coffee makers as well as an old fashioned wood stove with bread oven and seating for up to 10 persons with a new Island and Bar Stools w/ wine and glass rack and a wagon wheel chandelier above. Cabinets are many. All dishes, pots and pans are available. We have just installed a large camp charcoal grill near by. A pantry is located just off the kitchen. Plenty of closet space is located at the bottom of the stairs. The upstairs has four bedrooms with a mix of bunk beds, twin and full beds and a queen bed. Closets in each room. A full bath and shower are on this level and there is a third bathroom on the upper level. Views from every room. This home is perfect for Family Reunions, Friendly Gatherings and Club events. Free Sunsets every evening provided by nature. Also new is a pavilion for guest use just in case the weather tries to put a damper on your out door event.
Close to Jackson Hole and Dubois, WY. Just 35 scenic miles from the South Gate to Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks on the Togwotee Trail to Yellowstone, a designated scenic byway. All this just outside your front door.
Independent Senior Citizens, Military and Biker and Snowmobile Club discounts. Trailer parking also available. Daily housekeeping service and a full service restaurant within walking distance. Map & Owner's Profile
Mountain Vacations, Incredible Views, Yellowstone/Grand Tetons
Year Purchased: 2004
Why the Owner Chose Dubois
A unique area surrounded by National Forest. A quiet location near National Parks, Alpine Lakes, rivers and streams and incredible views with easy highway and snowmobile trail access. Wildlife is also a big attraction. The Winter, Summer and Fall months are an outdoor recreationist's paradise. Spring time is our quiet time and we enjoy watching all of life return from the throws of Winter. The weather can be very unpredictable but you are more than welcome to join us. Services are limited in the area during April. It's a great time to do some thinking and to experience nature's yearly rebound. Spring is the quietest time of year except for the calls of the wild when the river comes alive.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin
Solitude is a great pleasure and the amenities offered are here with you. If you do not feel like leaving you have most everything within walking distance. Relax and read a book, or go visit the National Parks. Shop in Jackson Hole, go fishing or simply enjoy a cook out or camp fire. The guests that frequent the property are also very helpful and may even take you fishing in some little known places that they have come to love over the years. In snowmobile season you may find someone to ride with that knows more about the area and can show you some popular or not so popular areas to ride. The people here know the area and can recommend things to do or places to see that are unique to the area.
Walk to Full Service Bar and Restaurant serving Hand Crafted American Cuisine. A New Organic All Season Greenhouse is now a focal point of our Wilderness Boundary Restaurant featuring organic herbs, l
Honoring the Tie and Timber Industry that helped Westward expansion of the rail roads to open the Western United States and eventually a coast to coast commerce.
A most beautiful view of small water falls with the Pinnacle Buttes as the backdrop. Brooks Lake Creek Falls then joins the Upper Wind River shortly downstream. Hiking/Cross Country Ski Trail access.
Owner's Map of Dubois
Growing up in a small ski resort community and living in Florida for many years, I have come to know the resort and food service industry and understand the importance of great customer service. We like to be remembered and revisited and become friends with our clients/ guests. We have many repeat guests during the Summer, Fall and Winter months. I love the outdoors for many reasons and I can walk out my front door and see some of the most beautiful views in the nation without leaving my property. If I do go somewhere I am still surrounded by the incredible views for miles around. I enjoy all of the seasons for all the their differences and outdoor opportunities.

This place is FANTASTIC!!! Friendly owner and staff-they treated us like family. Grounds and rooms are gorgeous! Great restaurant in the lodge. We stayed on the way to Yellowstone, but I will go back and stay several days there!! We got there late, and had not eaten supper-and even though the restaurant was closed, they made sure we did not go hungry. The food was fantastic. Beef stew in bread bowls and a huge plate of nachos that would feed a crowd! I highly recommend this place-I did not want to leave!!

A group of 10 guys came out to snowmobile for the 5 th year in a row. "The crew at Lava Mountain Lodge obviously works in the off season making improvements". "Each year we enjoy more amenities". They rebooked for Winter 2011 before leaving as many groups do. Do to the economy the Big House at Lava Mountain Lodge is not fully booked for Winter 2011 as it usually is a year in advance.

The most fun on any Family Reunion thus far. Guests came from 5 states and gathered at Lava Mountain Lodge for 9 days. Yellowstone, Fishing, Hiking, Jackson Hole, Dubois, Petroglyphs, Moose, Elk so many things to pack into 9 days. Guests were impressed by the customer service, even rounding up a crock pot for them so they could play all day and have dinner ready when they got back. Enjoyed the night life at the bar. BBQ was awsome and they all grew up in Texas where they say the BBQ is #1 but if LML were to visit a BBQ competition Texas might just have a run for thier money. Part of the Family will be returning in 2010.
