Property description

Victorian-era bungalow located on a quiet residential main street just 4 short blocks from historic downtown Wallace. Walking distance from restaurants, shopping, museums, and the 6th Street Theater. 4 blocks from the Trail of the Coeur d'Alenes or bus transportation to the Hiawatha Trail. 12 miles to Lookout Pass Ski recreation area. 11 miles to Silver Mountain Ski Resort. Backdoor access to hundreds of miles of snowmobile trails in winter and ATV trails in summer. This is a bicycling wonderland.

Lookout Pass Ski and Recreation Area: The Bungalow is located in Wallace, ID only 12 miles west of the Lookout Pass Ski and Recreation area.

Lookout Pass is the original Idaho ski area having documented skiing and a home made rope tow in 1935. The local ski pioneers chose Lookout Pass because of the abundant snowfall and excellent snow quality which they could access by jumping on the Northern Pacific railcars as they proceeded east from the mining towns of Wallace and Mullan, Idaho. These ski adventurers would hop off the railcars at the summit and utilize a highway storage shed as a warming hut that they nicknamed “Buzzards Roost”.

Lookout Pass has operated every winter season since 1935 and has a reputation for legendary powder, earliest openings, and longest season in the region. The number that really matters is an average snowfall of 400' of light Northern Rockies snow.

Silver Mountain is 11 miles west and offers the world's longest gondola. Winter skiing and summer mountain biking.

Route of the Hiawatha: Stay in Wallace and ride the trail.

This portion of the Olympian Hiawatha route has been called one of the most breathtaking scenic stretches of railroad in the country. The 'crown jewel' of rail-to-trail mountain bicycle trails is operated by Lookout Pass Ski Area which is located adjacent to Hiawatha TunnelI-90 at the Idaho/Montana state line, 12 miles east of historic Wallace, Idaho. The Hiawatha Trail is typically open daily from around May 24 thru October 5 from 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. PDT.

Winding through 10 tunnels and 7 high trestles, this 15-mile route crosses the rugged Bitterroot Mountains between Idaho and Montana. The Route of the Hiawatha is best known for the long, dark St. Paul Pass, or Taft Tunnel, which burrows for 1.66 miles under the Idaho/Montana state line.

Trail of the Coeur d'Alenes: The Bungalow is located 4 blocks from the Wallace trail-head of the 74 mileTrail of the Coeur d'Alenes.

Manager info

Year Purchased: 2003

About: TO RENT Contact Tomi Lyle, property manager,, phone 208 752-3603.. Owners-Geoffrey and Alice O'Meara. Owner's Story-I am a remodeling contractor. My wife, The Professor, brought me out west here looking for a second house. A week later we bought this house. It is now a polished gem, a relaxing getaway for us once every summer and a ski home for part of each winter.

Why Wallace:
To rent, contact Tomi Lyle, property Manager. Owners are Geoff and Alice O'Meara. When we first looked at the house,Silver Mountain had announced it's expansion. The local real estate agent had never seen the interior. When she showed the property to us she said, 'you can't have it! I want it!' Nonetheless we made an immediate offer and had an acceptance in 3 hours time. Since then we have remodeled bathrooms, plumbing(including a 60 gallon hot water heater),finishes, etc. We would like to share it with you !

The Unique Benefits at this House:
Fresh air! Great hiking and biking trails. Hundreds of miles of ATV TRAILS at the town's doorstep. Family skiing(never lose anyone)at Lookout with Consistent Powder. New baths that make for a relaxing day's end. Collectible Kitchen Gadgets to use . Upstairs picture window couch and view makes for a cozy reading area. Front porch glider. Back patio umbrella table set. Yard art recliner nook in the shade!Wi-fi Lookout NOW plans to expand skiing to include the adjacent mountain by 2015. We can't wait.
