  My partner and I traveled to Costa Rica on 4 different occasions over the past 14 months. We traveled all around Costa Rica during those trips but all four times we made it a point to visit Cabuya/Montezuma area. We stayed at a couple of places in Montezuma and found that we loved Sol y Luna best. I don't even know where to start! Patricia and Simon are absolutely wonderful and they will make sure you have a wonderful stay. The bungalows are beautifully appointed, artful, very clean, and situated in lush surroundings. The landscaping is breathtaking and you WILL be visited by lovely animals such as the capuchins, raccoons, agouti, and maybe even a coati or two. You can count on seeing animals while lying in the hammock, enjoying the sounds of the jungle. We stayed at both Sol and Luna and both bungalows are beautiful! We will stay in Estrella during our next trip. We can't wait! As for the surrounding area, you can walk to the beach or into Cabuya for a great breakfast at the Panderia or lunch at El Rancho. Two very nice places to eat! Cabuya is a bit of a walk but it's all flat and a scenic walk, very doable. Point is, you don't need a car but it is handy to have one. There is also a bus that goes down the main road and will take you to Montezuma or into Cabuya/Cabo Blanco. Overall, we LOVE Sol y Luna. It feels like a home away from home every time we set foot in the bungalow. I know there are a lot of choices of other places to stay in the area and we have looked at a fair amount of them, but we keep going back to Sol y Luna because it is truly a special place!!

  My Fiancé and I stayed in the Luna Bungalow for more than a week at the start of December and had a wonderful time. Both Bungalows are tucked into the lush Jungle which is teeming with wildlife: Howler and White Faced Monkeys, Racoons, Humming Birds, Coatis and Agoutis. Paradise. It is a short walk to the ocean and the beach near the property is mostly empty. If you are looking for a place to stay that is a little off the beaten path, private, welcoming and rustic, this is the place for you. The Bungalows and property are meticulously maintained, about a 40 minute walk into Montezuma (or a 10 minute drive.) Patricia and Simon, the owners, are friendly, wonderful hosts who always made us feel welcome. They directed us to wonderful restaurants, hiking and the local fish man who sold us the catch of the day which we ate in the jungle under the stars. Just make sure that you don't leave any food out when you go to sleep! We can't wait to return. Thanks again to Patricia and Simon (come visit us in Toronto - we have a spare room!) Gavin & Sarah

  We highly recommend Solyluna to anyone who is truly looking to get away from it all. Upon arrival at Solyluna, you are warmly greeted by Patricia and Simon. Pictures don't do this special place any justice. It's like being in a dream. Patricia and Simon know the area and hook you up with a handy little map and all the details you will need...low tide, bus schedule, fish monger, best restaurants, and any questions you can think to ask. Solyluna is a 45 minutes walk from either Montezuma or Cabuya. We enjoyed the sun and the exercise and chose to walk everywhere. We really loved the less touristy town of Cabuya and had some of our best and most authentic meals there. We also strongly recommend going to Montezuma to eat at Los Artistas and have an amazing meal ocean side. Solyluna's property is beautiful. It is well maintained, very clean and totally self sufficient. We cooked a lot of meals there. We found Solyluna to be very comfortable and quite unique. The bungalow is very artsy and the wood that is everywhere is gorgeous. We were big fans of the stone in the shower, and the temperature is perfect after a hot, sweaty walk in the Costa Rican sun. The beach is a five minute stroll away. Although it is rocky, we spent a lot of time playing in the warm ocean. If you're not a strong swimmer, be careful, there are sharp drop offs and the waves are quite strong. Most days it was us and the pelicans swimming. Definitely check out the Isle of Cabuya and Cascada Montezuma...our two favorite stops of our trip!! We spent a lot of time relaxing at the beautiful jungalow. The front eating area and hammock were our favorite spots. We would sprawl out with our books and watch the critters come and go. We kept a steady supply of bananas and a lot of the animals were comfortable getting quite close to us. Hummingbirds, butterflies, monkeys, birds, lizards...even more. We saw a baby Praying Mantis and geckos galore. Overall, Solyluna is a very special place to visit. We truly felt out in the jungle and enjoyed only seeing animals some days! Patricia and Simon are very special people, who put a lot of love and care into what they do. They have an eye for detail, a love for their property, and a passion to help people enjoy their stay to the fullest.

  Our stay at solyluna was blissful. The bungalow was perfect, and I could easily have spent the whole time sitting on the porch, looking (at the capuchin monkeys, butterflies, hummingbirds, a shy little agouti, and the nighttime raccoons) and listening (to the howler monkeys especially but also the birds and all the lovely sounds of the place). Patricia and Simon were wonderful hosts, and it was easy to get around without a car.

  This is a quiet, secluded retreat. It really makes you feel as if you are part of the jungle. Have your camera with you while eating on the patio, you never know what critters you will see. Enjoyed watching the white face monkeys eat leftover fruit. The accommodations were simple, yet comfortable. Cooking utensils were provided. The location we found easily with the directions provided. We felt secure at this location. The beach was just a short walk down the road and not crowded. Owners were very friendly and helpful explaining places to visit. Time moved by so slowly while we were there, so kick back and relax.

  I stayed in a SolyLuna bungalow Sept.24th-Oct.2. This was the best Costa Rica experience. Patricia and Simon immediately helped orient me and made sure I was totally comfortable. This orientation included a comprehensive map of the area, explanation of the best sights and experiences, bus schedules and everything else they or I could think of. I think the river experience was my favorite - paradise doesn't get any better than that. Sol y Luna is set only 500 meters from beautiful and serene Playa Los Cedros and yet the feel is totally 'in the rainforest'. The large property is lushly landscaped with all sorts of unique wildlife that can be quite friendly. The two bungalows and main house are set far apart so there is a good secluded feeling. The bungalow is very comfortable with lots of arty elements. A great place for a couple or a single. I very much wanted to get wildlife pictures and Simon and Patricia really created & assisted with Howler Monkey 'photo shoots'. Hilarious and perfect! Patricia and Simon have also just completed their gorgeous new house called Estrella (star). For two people this is larger and more luxurious than the bungalows with some very cool & artsy design elements. I hope to stay there next next time!   Our stay at Sol y Luna can only be described as perfect. We are the type of travellers who prefer to avoid the tourist trappings of travel, and were looking for a basic but unique place to stay. We found that in Sol y Luna. The bungalow was spotlessly clean and thoughtfully decorated. A lot of natural details were included in the decoration. This is not a luxury accommodation; no AC (but we found the ceiling fan was more than adequate); shower was lukewarm (exactly what we wanted after a hot day); and no Wi-Fi at the bungalow (perfect for allowing us to really unwind - but wi-fi was available a 2 min. walk away at Patricia and Simon's). The kitchenette was great; we particularly loved having the blender to make fruit smoothies. The bed was firm and comfortable; it felt like it was a memory foam type of material. Many things made this a special spot. Firstly, was the wildlife. Being in the rainforest, we were visited by many animals (coatis, agoutis, raccoons, and even Patricia and Simon's cats!). There was a long-nosed bat who spent her days sleeping on our porch; she did a great job of keeping the bugs down! Patricia and Simon were the perfect hosts; they gave us all the details we needed to have a great stay, but then left us to our privacy. We really enjoyed chatting with them when we went to their place to check our e-mail, and Patricia went out of her way numerous times (e.g. driving us to the Saturday market and then driving our groceries home for us and putting them in our fridge) to help us out. The bungalow is located a 3 km. walk from both Cabuya and Montezuma. We were quite happy to walk the distance or take the bus, as we valued the privacy that the remote location provided. The beach at the end of our street (5 min. walk away) was beautiful and rarely had many people on it. Car and moped rentals were available in Montezuma if we had wanted that, but we enjoyed the exercise. We were very sorry to leave at the end of our week here. Next time, we plan on staying longer.   Greeted each morning by blue jays and hummingbirds, followed by visits from cheeky capuchin monkeys and adorable coatis, we eagerly anticipated each day. Once darkness fell, the surprisingly mellow raccoons also came visiting. The private bungalows are lovingly designed and the lush gardens meticulously maintained by friendly hosts who directed us to all points of interest in the area. The nearly deserted beaches a short walk away offered an abundance of shells and driftwood treasures. A short ride or hike into Montezuma or Cabuya for restaurants, shopping and activities made this out-of-the-way location a quiet, yet convenient.haven to relax away from the action. Ask the hosts to direct you to the local fisherman for yummy prawns and tuna!

  Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, romantic getaway.
