Accommodations:  Condominium, 2 Bedrooms, 1.5 Baths (Sleeps 4-6)

Located in the historic Capitol Hill neighborhood, this unit features two bedrooms and one bathroom as well as powder room and can comfortably accommodate a family of six. The property—situated within walking distance of the U.S. Capitol and the National Mall—is near the center of the Federal City and offers amenities for a comfortable and memorable stay in one of Washington's oldest and most sought-after neighborhoods.

After Georgetown to the west, Capitol Hill is Washington's oldest neighborhood. In its earliest days, most of the residents were members of Congress who lived in boarding houses and dormitories surrounding the Capitol. As the neighborhood evolved, rowhouses replaced boarding houses and the Hill began to grow as a neighborhood filled with families, as well as Washington's who's who. As you walk around this stately neighborhood, don't be surprised if you see faces you've seen in the news. A number of senators and representatives make their home on the Hill.

In addition to the U.S. Capitol, the Hill includes other significant American landmarks such as the U.S. Supreme Court, the Library of Congress, the Folger Shakespeare Library, Union Station, the U.S. Marine Corps Barracks, the Washington Naval Yard, Congressional Cemetery, Lincoln Park, and the Eastern Market. All of these sights are within easy walking distance and most are Metro-accessible on the Orange/Blue line on the southwest side of the Hill and on the Red line through Union Station. Just down the hill from the Capitol is the National Mall with all of the monuments and memorials iconic to Washington, as well as more than 10 museums and galleries of art and artifacts.

To the east of the Capitol is the Eastern Market—one of the only remaining merchant markets left in Washington. While the market bustles during the week, it is on the weekends that it acquires its character and charm as residents from all over the city and visitors from all over the world come to the market to enjoy breakfast; purchase fresh meats, produce, and breads; stroll through the adjacent flea market; and browse the latest art and jewelry crafted by local artists and artisans.

During the spring and summer months, a visit to the U.S. Marine Corps Barracks at 8th and I Streets SE will allow you to see the Marine Corps Silent Drill Team in action. This 24-man rifle platoon performs precision maneuvers with their 10.5 lb M-1 Garand rifles with fixed bayonets.

Over at the U.S. Capitol, the newly opened visitor's center allows visitors to experience the Capitol from the ground up. The center features several state statues in Emancipation Hall and a museum that chronicles the history of the U.S. Capitol from its cornerstone laying in 1789 by George Washington to the present day. Tickets for the Senate and House galleries are available here.

The Library of Congress' Jefferson Building, just across the street from the Capitol, is the world's largest repository of books and media in the world. The building is open to the public and the Renaissance and classical art are breathtaking.

These and other sites make staying on Capitol Hill a must if you're visiting Washington on business or for pleasure.

Owner's Profile

Owner Description

Year Purchased: 2007

We are family owned and operated. From the left meet Kate, Jarek (sister and brother) and our mom Dana.

We have lived in Washington for over ten years and love this cosmopolitan city where people get up every morning and get to work on changing the world. The most powerful people in DC can alter the course of history and try to make the world a better place. It's a city where philosophical debate and advocacy of issues beyond one's own family or pocketbook rule the day; a city where what's going on in one's head is far more important than what one is wearing; a city where people come from all over the world to experience democracy and learn the principles of our free society.

We get visitors from all over the country and the world. Some come for one time visit with their family, others keep coming back number of times a year as we host many repeat guests related to the federal government, foreign embassies and the US State Department. We take great pride in having our unit very clean (our mom cleans it, so you know it’s spotless), conveniently located within walking distance to all shopping, restaurants and Metro.

We want you to enjoy your visit whether it is once in a lifetime trip with your family or monthly visit for work. We are looking forward to hosting you in DC and if there is something we can help with, let us know.

    • Just about the best location we ever visited through VRBO. Jarek and Kate - thank you for letting us to stay at your house in DC. We walked to the Capitol building every morning and enjoyed getting to know the neighborhood so much. We ate at the Eastern Market every night and walked all over the Mall which was the best part of our visit. Your location is just amazing and we are very grateful to have the opportunity to stay there. Our kids loved the park and our parents loved the history of Capitol Hill. Simon P.

    • We stayed here Memorial Day weekend 2009 with our two small children. What a fantastic experience. We spent our days exploring Washington DC and our evenings in this lovely apartment. It was so nice to have a home away from home. After the kids went to bed upstairs, my husband and I enjoyed a nice evening with each other. This beats hotel living every time. This was an especially nice rental with all the perks of home, plus the added bonus of tourist information at our fingertips. The owners made us feel welcome and provided great information to make touring DC easy.

    • What a great property! I spent a week here with my brother and his family and we all loved the unit. The house was very spacious, very clean and nicely furnished. We used the backyard and the grill couple of times and loved having the outdoor space. The location was great for walking around and exploring the city as well as the area of Eastern Market where we shopped for fresh groceries daily. We tried so many local cheeses (and wines) during this visit that we will be staying cheese free for couple of months. Thank you for hosting us. Kristen, Mike And Jen

    • We stayed in the apartment for ten days with our kids while visiting Washington. We loved the unit and the location of Eastern Market. We found the apartment very clean, very nicely furnished and really enjoyed hanging out in the back yard with the kids. The area of Eastern Market was very safe and ideal for kids with three parks just within few minutes walking distance and the Capitol and Senate buildings less than ten minutes walking distance. Would highly recommend this place to everyone.
