Located in the historic Capitol Hill neighborhood, this unit features two bedrooms and one bathroom as well as powder room and can comfortably accommodate a family of six. Once you enter the building there are flight of stairs to get to the living and dining room and than another flight of stairs to get to the bedrooms and bathroom.

The property—situated within walking distance of the U.S. Capitol and the National Mall—is near the center of the Federal City and offers amenities for a comfortable and memorable stay in one of Washington's oldest and most sought-after neighborhoods.

After Georgetown to the west, Capitol Hill is Washington's oldest neighborhood. In its earliest days, most of the residents were members of Congress who lived in boarding houses and dormitories surrounding the Capitol. As the neighborhood evolved, rowhouses replaced boarding houses and the Hill began to grow as a neighborhood filled with families, as well as Washington's who's who. As you walk around this stately neighborhood, don't be surprised if you see faces you've seen in the news. A number of senators and representatives make their home on the Hill.

In addition to the U.S. Capitol, the Hill includes other significant American landmarks such as the U.S. Supreme Court, the Library of Congress, the Folger Shakespeare Library, Union Station, the U.S. Marine Corps Barracks, the Washington Naval Yard, Congressional Cemetery, Lincoln Park, and the Eastern Market. All of these sights are within easy walking distance and most are Metro-accessible on the Orange/Blue line on the southwest side of the Hill and on the Red line through Union Station. Just down the hill from the Capitol is the National Mall with all of the monuments and memorials iconic to Washington, as well as more than 10 museums and galleries of art and artifacts.

To the east of the Capitol is the Eastern Market—one of the only remaining merchant markets left in Washington. While the market bustles during the week, it is on the weekends that it acquires its character and charm as residents from all over the city and visitors from all over the world come to the market to enjoy breakfast; purchase fresh meats, produce, and breads; stroll through the adjacent flea market; and browse the latest art and jewelry crafted by local artists and artisans.

During the spring and summer months, a visit to the U.S. Marine Corps Barracks at 8th and I Streets SE will allow you to see the Marine Corps Silent Drill Team in action. This 24-man rifle platoon performs precision maneuvers with their 10.5 lb M-1 Garand rifles with fixed bayonets.

Over at the U.S. Capitol, the newly opened visitor's center allows visitors to experience the Capitol from the ground up. The center features several state statues in Emancipation Hall and a museum that chronicles the history of the U.S. Capitol from its cornerstone laying in 1789 by George Washington to the present day. Tickets for the Senate and House galleries are available here.

The Library of Congress' Jefferson Building, just across the street from the Capitol, is the world's largest repository of books and media in the world. The building is open to the public and the Renaissance and classical art are breathtaking.

These and other sites make staying on Capitol Hill a must if you're visiting Washington on business or for pleasure.

We visited DC with our two boys (9 & 12) for 4 nights over their April school vacation. The location of the condo is perfect for doing all the tourist stuff. It was a 10 minute walk to the capitol, 15 minutes to the Mall area. We rarely took the Metro as it was easier to walk most places. The Eastern Market and the Union Station Metro stations are about a 10 min. walk each. The condo was set up well. We liked having the laundry available and we did use the air mattress for one of our sons. It was very quiet (except for sirens in the background every once in a while which is to be expected) and clean. We had some great meals at Tortilla Cafe (Eastern Market) and most notably, Founding Farmers (near Foggy Bottom) - one of the best restaurants we've been to in years. Highly recommend it. The condo is not very close to any stores or restaurants, but that was not a problem for us.

We had a great experience in this quiet neighborhood. If you are looking for a location surrounded by real people (not tourists) then this would be great for you, too. The walk to the metro (either Eastern Market or Union Station) is about 15 minutes either way, and restaurants are a bit of a hike, too. However, the walk is lovely and quiet and peaceful. The house is well equipped, and the owners are more than willing to make sure you are settled in and have what you need. When we were there the modem stopped working consistently, so Jarek came to replace it with a new one. Finally, I think the location of the house is ideal for heading off in all DC directions since you can reach several metro lines easily.

Great location, picturesque and quiet neighbourhood, easy and pleasant walking to Eastern Market, Capitol, museums, Union Station. Apartment was very pleasant and comfortable for us 3, and even the sofa bed was as comfortable a bed as I've slept on in my travels. Even though we never met the owners, the set-up of access to the property was easy and simple. Our only regret was that we didn't spend longer than our three nights in Washington DC. A real gem of a destination.

I would recommend this property to others, it was as described,it was clean and well maintained. the owner was helpful in answering our concerns. Only problems for us was restaurants were not as close as we would have liked, but no place is perfect. Since we were there during the heat and humidity of the summer air conditioning was a big concern and it worked great keeping us cool to be able to sleep. It was a short taxi ride from where ever we wanted to go to the Capitol, the White House, the Smithsonian, Supreme Court, Arlington and all the memorials.

Great place to stay. Everything you will need is there. Nice walk to Capital and easy walk to Eastern Market. Couple of small problems were handled quickly and easy by Jerek. The place was clean well maintained and a lot of character. Highly recommend to anyone wanting a place to stay in DC. The on site parking was safe and convenient. Myself, wife and son 20, daughter 16 had plenty of space. Great place.

Our family of 6 from Australia recently stayed at this beautiful property in Capital Hill for 5 nights. From the beginning, the owners Kate and Jarek were extremely helpful, prompt and professional in assisting us to organise our stay. The property was exactly as described on the VRBO website (possibly even better than we were expecting) and well stocked with everything a family of 6 needs to be relatively self sufficient. The bedrooms were very large with very comfortable beds and linen and 2 of our children used the pull out sofa in the living room. The property was airconditioned with ceiling fans in both bedrooms but perhaps the only negative was the children sleeping in the living room found this room very hot at night sometimes making sleeping difficult. Perhaps having a portable fan available particularly during the height of Summer would be greatly appreciated. We were a 10 minute bus ride from most major attractions and simply walked the short distance to the Eastern Market on the weekend. The area had numerous cafes and restaurants and we were grateful for the folder with helpful tips and ideas for places to visit whilst in DC. We loved our stay and wouldnt hesitate staying here again or recommending it to others. A great experience!

We stayed here for 5 nights, and we had such a great experience, we were sad to go. Kate and Jerek arranged to have a cake and balloons in the house upon our arrival to celebrate our son's Birthday. We really appreciated that! The property was clean, and very roomy for our family of 5. The neighborhood is charming and quiet, and not too far of a a walk to the metro. I wish we studied the bus system earlier, since the stop is much closer, and would have been helpful after a long day. In the nice weather we had, the walks were very enjoyable. We were able to walk from Union Station at arrival, with our luggage and 3 kids, and it wasn't too bad at all. Walking to the Capitol, and all the rest of the mall from the property was also a wonderful way to go. Thanks for a memorable first visit to DC!

Very comfortable, great location. Five of us stayed there and I slept on the convertible sofa... AND it was actually a good night's rest! Ate dinner each night @ Barrack's Row, only a short walk away-- felt more like locals than tourists. Would definitely recommend this place for a nice stay in DC! Thanks Jarek & Kate.

I loved the "neighborhood" having the "90" bus on 8th street, the Metro so close as well as the Eastern Market within a few blocks made our stay even better. Staying in the home was delightful and met all our needs, The only suggestion I would make is to have a list of places to purchase food, upon arrival. I would definitely recommend the home to friends

My wife, 3 kids, and I spent 11 days/10 nights in DC. We were there seeing all the museums and monuments and everything else DC has to offer. We opted for a rowhouse instead of a hotel. The accomodations were just what we were looking for. It was clean and neat. We brought in food and cooked many breakfasts and dinners there, even grilling out a few times. The street is a fairly quiet one. The kids loved staying there and playing on the back patio. While being closer to the Metro would have been ideal, the daily walk (7 1/2 blocks) was a beautiful one and went by fast. There's a Starbucks, CVS, Yes Organic grocery store, and the daily market at the Eastern Market (7th/8th and Pennsylvania) to cover most of your daily needs. There's also a coffee shop closeby at 8th and C. I'm sure it's good coffee, but I got "Soup-Natzi'd" for offering a debit card - "No coffee for you!!" - Ouch. Great place. Great time.

About the owner: We are family owned and operated. From the left meet Kate, Jarek (sister and brother) and our mom Dana. We have lived in Washington for over ten years and love this cosmopolitan city where people get up every morning and get to work on changing the world. The most powerful people in DC can alter the course of history and try to make the world a better place. It's a city where philosophical debate and advocacy of issues beyond one's own family or pocketbook rule the day; a city where what's going on in one's head is far more important than what one is wearing; a city where people come from all over the world to experience democracy and learn the principles of our free society. We get visitors from all over the country and the world. Some come for one time visit with their family, others keep coming back number of times a year as we host many repeat guests related to the federal government, foreign embassies and the US State Department. We take great pride in having our unit very clean (our mom cleans it, so you know it’s spotless), conveniently located within walking distance to all shopping, restaurants and Metro. We want you to enjoy your visit whether it is once in a lifetime trip with your family or monthly visit for work. We are looking forward to hosting you in DC and if there is something we can help with, let us know.
