Peaceful Lakefront Getaway
Year Purchased: 2005
Why the Owner Chose Mountain Rest
We purchased this home in 2005 as a second home. We completely renovated the property, installing all new flooring, new appliances, new lighting, and furnished it to be a relaxing and enjoyable place to retreat to with our children on the weekends and during the summer months. We love to kayak, canoe, fish, and just relax as a family and want this home to be a place where our friends and family can do the same. Our hope is that you will find your time here to be relaxing and allow you to reconnect with your family while enjoying the peaceful surroundings.
The Unique Benefits at this House
Canoe and kayaks available upon request. Kayak instruction is available from qualified instructor upon request and based upon availability.
Owner's Map of Mountain Rest
My husband and I have three children and purchased this home as a place to getaway on the weekends with them and potentially be a place we may want to retire some day. We love retreating here on the weekends for fishing, kayaking, canoeing, reading a good book, shopping in Highlands, NC., taking our boat to Lake Jocassee during the summer and just being together as a family.

Beautiful Location - Great House!

The pictures here on HomeAway do not do the house justice. Newly remodeled, the home is warm and inviting inside with comfortable beds, sofas, and chairs. The house is set on a small mountain lake that is perfect for kayaking (we brought our own) and paddle boating (one provided at the house). Even though there isn't a beach area, our four-year-old was perfectly happy swimming off the dock. The surrounding area is full of great excursions. Waterfalls, hiking, historic sites are all within a 20-30 minute drive. We particularly liked Chau Ram County Park, which is just east of Westminster. The owners have placed a guestbook in the house that has directions to all of the area offerings - a nice touch. The owner was a delight to deal with and the house was ready to go when we got there. We hope to come back again!

Thank you so much for sharing your vacation home with us. We had a wonderful time and found many things to do. We found waterfalls, went rafting, hiking, swimming...just to name a few. I am very picky about the places I stay and I couldn't find one thing to complain about. It was beautiful inside and out and VERY clean and comfortable. Would definately love to come again!

The home was just beautiful! The lake was very peaceful and relaxing! My family had a wonderful time! It was very secluded and quiet. The area was beautiful. Homeowners were very nice and easy to work with. I definitely would recommend it to anyone as a great getaway. Pictures just don't do the home justice. Hope to go back again!

My wife and I stayed at this property and were very pleased with the home, decor, furnishings, deck, and outdoor areas. Loved the hardwood floors in the entry and living room. Everything was top grade and in good taste. No disapointments here. Although it rained for a day and a half, the covered deck and well stocked library of movies kept us well entertained. It would have been nice to have had better weather, but it is no problem being stuck in this house if the weather is bad. The kitchen is well stocked with cooking utensils and serving ware. We enjoyed cooking in the well-sized kitchen with a warm cozy fire blazing in the hearth. All of the bathrooms were nice, especially the master bath and the lower level bath. Our last day was a beautiful sunny day. We enjoyed the very nice lake views and the still vibrant autumn colors. We would recommend this property to anyone traveling in this area.

What a great place. It looks even better in person than the photos. Like us, you will not be disappointed. Our boys(7 & 4) Enjoyed swimming and fishing off the dock as well as the playstation video game downstairs. We hope to return next year. Thanks for allowing us to stay at your home.

Though I was unsure of what to expect, and perhaps a little bit apprehensive, I found this home to be well worth the money. I would go back with no hesitation. For those looking for a peaceful place to get-away, this is the spot; a bit off the beaten path such that you have a sense of escape, and yet no so far away from civilization that it is necessary to plan a voyage to reach restaurants, gas stations, etc. The home is quite beautiful with plenty of porch space to enjoy every side of the house – perhaps my favorite feature. Yet there is really too much to say. I walked about he home for about three days straight observing the features, furniture, and décor and finding myself wowed at the quality. In the words of the movie, Jurassic Park, “spared no expense”.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at your lake house. We are a group of 5 college friends coming from 3 different states for an annual get together. Peaceful lakefront getaway is a perfect description of what you have. Loved the porch rockers and sitting room gliders, but our favorite gathering spot was the kitchen farm house table. Thanks for sharing your home; it was everything we expected and more.
