This romantic cottage atop its seawall looks out on the Pacific Ocean (100 feet from the sliding door) and Channel Islands on the horizon. This Faria beach cottage is a perfect place to relax, read, write, and feel the sand in your toes. Sit on the deck and watch the pelicans, sandpipers, seals and dolphins in the waves.
Down the steps from the cottage to the beach, enjoy the Faria “Cove,” aka Mondo’s, site of one of California’s famous surfing long breaks. Wake up for low tide (the water goes way out) and explore the tide pools. Make sand castles or take long walks or runs down the beach in either direction. Have fun swimming, boogie boarding, kayaking, or sunbathing. You can bicycle down the old Pacific Coast Highway or play tennis at the Faria Homeowners’ Court. Take a short drive to see the Mission, the Santa Barbara Zoo or to hunt for antiques in Downtown Ventura, or to visit historic Ojai or Santa Barbara. If you are a surf fisherperson, try your hand at catching halibut or perch off the seawall at high tide or on the sand or fly fishing in the waves for the wild corbina (the brown trout of the ocean).
The cottage has a fireplace inside and a fire pit and BBQ outside so bring some wood and charcoal. In the large front room share the view of the ocean and listen to the surf pound the seawall at high tide. Look out at the Pacific while cooking breakfast, while having dinner or sipping wine or sodas at sunset. Days are full of joy.
The cottage is a 1950’s vintage beach house that is casual with a few modern conveniences from various remodels. It is comfortable for small families and returns you and your loved ones to the romantic days of California beach life.
