This is a delightful retreat, owned by an artist, which sits on posts in a quiet cove of the Sheepscot River. You can watch beautiful sunsets while sitting on the deck with a drink and a good book. We own two kayaks and two canoe which are available for cottage renters to use to paddle around Hodgdon Island or to explore the other islands nearby.
One of the best lobster rolls in the region is served at the lobster shack on our little island, where you can also buy milk and beer and pick up a New York Times. Two of the many hiking trails operated by the Boothbay Region Land Trust can be reached by foot from our front door. When you are tired of boiling your own lobster at home, there is a short drive to the many restaurants and shops of Boothbay Harbor.

We will be going back to this idyllic location for our third time. If you love the water, and treasure the idea of watching the moon set as you lie in bed in the morning - this place is for you. The kayaking is fabulous and the water views from the deck are ever-changing. We practically lived on the beautiful deck, which was a wonderful place to entertain relatives and friends who were also vacationing in the area.
Recommended for:Romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers.

We treasure our week at this cottage every summer. It's about as close as you can get to living on the water without actually being in a boat. It's only a matter a steps to a canoe or kayak for a restful paddle around the island or a more ambitious expedition; or you can jump in the car and be in downtown Boothbay Harbor in a few minutes. We enjoy our meals on the deck over the water and love to watch the sun set over the cove from the big picture window inside the cozy cottage. Or you can just relax on the deck and watch the herons, ospreys, and the occasional kayaker or lobster boat. This is a little gem on one of the most scenic spots on the Maine coast.
Recommended for:Sightseeing, pet owners, adventure seekers.
