Treat yourself to an affordable luxury vacation. Relax, unwind and enjoy the serene beauty the Lowcountry has to offer. However you travel, we are here to accommodate your needs. Singles, couples, and families, everyone is welcome and leaves with wonderful memories.
Our cottage sits on Little Lucy Creek, nestled among the live oaks and long leaf pines on Lady's Island. This Lowcountry hideaway has a breathtaking view of the tidal salt marshes of Little Lucy Creek where you can watch the egrets and herons wade in the marsh grass and the eagles and hawks soar overhead. If you watch closely you can see the tiny island deer and raccoons when they visit the surrounding woods.
This cottage is also our second home and is thus appointed with all the amenities you need to make your vacation stay a delight. Most of the furnishings are genuine period antiques, most of them southern in origin and from the early 1800's. The living room has 22-foot vaulted ceilings, southern yellow pine floors, gas fireplace with a life-sized portrait of General Duff Green (our adopted southern kin) over the mantle, flat screen TV with surround sound, sound system with speakers throughout the cottage, wi-fi and cable hook-up computer internet access. There are 3 sets of French doors, from the living room and both bedrooms, which overlook the salt marshes and provide access to the screened porch. All rooms have ceiling paddle fans or there is central air if you prefer.
The fully equipped kitchen has granite countertops with breakfast bar, gas range, full fridge/icemaker, microwave, wine cooler and is completely furnished with cookware, toaster, etc.
The master bedroom has a king-size pillow-top bed, TV, large closet, master bath with large vanity and a walk-in shower stall with rain shower head. The guest bedroom also has a pillow-top king bed, TV, large closet and a private full bath with tub and shower.
There is a huge screened porch (16 x 48 ft) that overlooks the salt marshes. The screen porch has a wicker breakfast table outside the master bedroom French doors where you can enjoy your morning coffee, 2 sofas, 6 rockers and chairs, dining table that seats 8, and a beverage refrigerator. Even if the weather is bit cool or stormy you can enjoy the screened porch when you lower the canvas and isenglass panels.
Imagine stepping out onto the back deck and soaking in the 4 person (classed as 6 person but that would be really cozy!) hot tub while sipping wine and gazing at the stars overhead. There is a patio area with a gas grill where you can grill your fresh seafood and a boiling pot to cook up the local lowcountry favorite, Frogmore Stew. There is a large open deck area and a picket fence surrounds the beautifully landscaped yard. For your trips to the nearby beach, we have sand chairs, beach towels, coolers, and picnic baskets available for your use.
The cottage is only 4 miles from all major amenities and only 5 miles from historic downtown Beaufort where you can have lunch outside by the river park, take a carriage ride, shop, sit by the water and watch the boats and even see a dolphin or two pass by. Savannah, Charleston or Hilton Head are all within +- an hour and a half drive for easy day trips; Visit Fort Sumter and other Civil War historical sites, shop on King Street or in the local marketplace, take plantation tours, go antiquing, take a riverboat tour, sit on the park bench where Forrest Gump sampled his box of chocolates, visit Paula Dean's Lady and Son restaurant and the many wonderful restaurants in the Lowcountry.
The 3 miles of pristine secluded ocean beach on Hunting Island are only 15-20 minutes away. Be sure to climb the lighthouse and experience the spectacular ocean view. Watch the shrimp boats coming in with the catch of the day when you stop at the local seafood market for fresh seafood to grill for dinner. Also on your way home are roadside farm stands with fresh-picked fruits and vegetables. If you have a boat or kayaks there is a public launch just 2 miles away. There is a golf course less than 1 mile away.
To make your visit most pleasurable, our property manager lives on site in a detached apartment and will be here to welcome you upon your arrival and make sure you are comfortable. She can provide information on local dining and attractions. She is a Licensed Massage Therapist, NCBTMB. To make your stay even more memorable, she also offers, at an additional charge, in-house massage starting at $60 an hour.
Pets will be considered on an individual basis and will require an additional cleaning fee and deposit. The yard is fully fenced and there is a doggy door from the screened porch to the deck area. We expect pets to be on their best behavior so that they can enjoy your vacation with you!
The months of January through May are available for monthly reservations only. If after the first of the year there are still vacancies, we will consider renting by the week during those months.

The Cottage on Little Lucy Creek
Year Purchased: 2004
Why the Owner Chose Beaufort
We built our cottage on Little Lucy Creek because we absolutely fell in love with the Lowcountry area. We have family in the area which makes it even more special. This is our getaway special place. Sometimes we will sit on the screened porch and read or just enjoy the view of the salt marshes all day. My favorite day is coffee and newspapers on the porch in the morning, staying in my lounging pajamas and curling up on the porch ALL DAY with a good book, and ordering take-out dinner in the evening; it is a special day where I can relax and unwind like no other experience I've ever had. Other times we enjoy taking trips to Savannah or Charleston for dinner, antiquing or visiting the many historical locations. There are still many special places we haven't visited.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage
We have had many family gatherings at the cottage. With the huge screened porch we are able to entertain a large group with ease. Last year my husband's cousin and family stayed at the cottage while the whole family was involved in the annual Loggerhead turtle nesting and rescue program. The kids had a ball and said it was the best vacation ever! You can spend one day at the beach sunning and swimming and the next day be in Charleston for fine dining and shopping.
Gay's Seafood, White's Seafood, numerous roadside farm vegetable and fruit stands all along U.S. 21
Public boat launch River cottage where Forrest visits Bubba's mama and also where he crashed the shrimp boat into the dock.
Houses from the movies The Big Chill, Great Santini, Prince of Tides, Forrest Gump and many others.
All of the amenities you could possibly need are located only 4 miles away and yet far removed from your quiet cottage.
Owner's Map of Beaufort
Hi, my name is Ellie - I am a King
Charles Spaniel and lounging on the porch is one of my favorite spots at my cottage. My brothers and sisters and I love our fenced yard -- lots of good smells with the woods and salt marsh right here. We love our screened porch and the doggy door from the porch to the back yard is great. We can go in and out and in and out ...... and nobody cares because we can do it ourselves. Some of my brothers and sisters can't do stairs so my dad built a doggy ramp so we can all of us go up and down and up and down..... We have a frog family living in the fountain in the courtyard and little lizards that are way fast. And lots of squirrels and birds and even giant woodpeckers! And sometimes the little deer sneak into the yard first thing in the morning when we're drinking our coffee on the porch. My people are working on a link so you can see me and my brothers and sisters and many of our pet guests and read our stories, too. You get the picture! We love the cottage and hope you'll be able to come and visit, too.
Now a note from my people: We built our cottage as a getaway and a place for friends and family to visit. We vacation at the cottage now and plan to retire there when that time comes. The quiet and serenity allows us to totally unwind. We both enjoy photography so the views of the marshes and all the birds and wildlife are wonderful for us. We also very much enjoy any water activities so we especially feel at home here. When we built the cottage we had 5 (yes, 5!) dogs who all made the trip to South Carolina from Indiana with us. They all get so excited when the suitcases start to appear because they know they're heading to the cottage. Not all of our guests bring their pets, but we do enjoy being able to provide a cottage that is pet friendly where others can bring their pets on vacation with them if they want.

An Awesome Place to Stay

Wow - what a wonderful place to stay. The pictures, although great, do not do it justice. It was in a perfect location - close to downtown Beaufort, Port Royal, Hunting Island. Charleston and Savannah were a short distance away. The furnishings and decor were outstanding and we loved sitting out on the beautiful screened porch in the morning drinking our coffee. The owners were very nice and accommodating. Lots of restaurants close by and if you love seafood you will be in heaven. Wish we could have stayed longer. Went in early November and the weather was perfect - 70-75 degrees during the day and no humidity!! Very pet friendly also.

This property is perfect for adult couples, peaceful and relaxing. Immaculate and so well equipped in all respects, and what a nice view of the marsh. Great furnishings and excellent kitchen. A perfect cottage for just hanging out on a cloudy or chilly day. It is away from the bustle of the town yet easy access to Beaufort and the beaches. We had a great visit and would surely return when again in the low country.

Could not have been more pleased with the house and it's surroundings. High comfort level throughout the house with each room perfectly appointed. Anything and everything we needed was at the house apron arrival and we couldn't have felt more welcome. Our dog Zia was in high heaven at the cottage and with Hunting Island Beach so close day trips there were possible whenever we wanted. Being able to stay at the house 3+ weeks totally spoiled us and made us feel like locals. A five star experience from start to finish & can't imagine staying anywhere else on our next visit to the area

We really enjoyed staying at this beautiful home in November 2011. We really enjoyed the pretty and quiet setting. The house was very clean and well kept, and offered all the amenities we could want. The furnishings are just beautiful and comfortable. The view from the porch and deck was very picturesque. We found the atmosphere offered by the home and its owners to be very warm and welcoming. There was plenty of space for the four of us, and our dog. The listing description was very accurate. In addition, our dog enjoyed the location. She loved watching squirrels from the deck and back yard. She also enjoyed the walks we took around the immediate area. She was very content lying in front of the fireplace in the living room. We really appreciated the pet-friendly approach of the owners of this home. The location was very convenient to Beaufort, Hunting Island and other tourist and shopping areas. It also served as a great place from which to visit Charleston and Savannah. It was also just minutes to Port Royal, from where I enjoyed a fishing charter. There were many great restaurants within a short drive of the home. A little further away, at Edisto Island, we had a wonderful meal at The Old Post Office. We highly recommend this home as a great location for a wonderful vacation. We were only there a week, but we wish it were several months.

This is a wonderful cottage, perfectly decorated and in an excellent location for visiting historic Beaufort, Port Royal and other Lady's Island locations, including the Publix and restaurants. The cottage was sparkling clean and even prettier "in person" than the photos, which I have found to be unusual. We especially liked the quiet and peaceful setting and the beautiful decor. The owners and the onsite manager are friendly and helpful. We will definitely return in the near future--I would like to be able to spned more time enjoying the screened porch!

My husband and I recently stayed there with our two dogs. The pictures don't do this cottage justice. It is beautifully furnished and outfitted. The screened-in porch was furnished just as beautifully as indoors. My only comment is that the fence in one area is only about 18 inches tall - so if you have a large dog, or even a small one that might chase after wildlife you might want to take it into consideration. Lady's Island and Beaufort is a gorgeous area! Thank you for everything -
Owner response:Our guest is correct. There is a section of shorter fence (I would have said taller than 18" but have never measured it) along the salt marsh as we did not want to obscure the view. However, there is a way to gate off this section of the yard. So if anyone has a dog who is a jumper -- or big enough to step over!! -- there is a way to keep them from getting into that part of the yard. I always tell guests this before they reserve the cottage if they say they are bringing pets. I apologize if I did not tell these guests ahead of time. I don't believe they had a problem but they just want to let others know.

We absolutely loved staying at your beautiful home. The house was so adorable and decorated with so many interesting antiques. My husband, our little dog, and myself couldn't have been more comfortable. You've thought of every detail to make your guests want for nothing. We cooked several delicious seafood dinners on your grill overlooking Little Lucy Creek, had our evening cocktail while enjoying the hot tub, and slept like babies in a totally comfortable bed. Your screened in porch is the best! After renting your house, it would be hard for any other rental to live up to.

My wife and I and our poodle(Bogey) just spent 2 months at Little Lucy Creek. We had a chance to preview the cottage last year on a visit to Beaufort. We were so impressed with the furnishings and the cook's kitchen we made our deposit. The cottage had the best amenities and furnishings of the five SC rentals we experienced. It is like staying in a very special home, not a typical rental. It even has a fenced yard that was perfect for Bogey. The cottage is within 10 minutes of Beaufort, which we have found to have a wonderful variety of things to do.

I'm back to reality after my month long stay at the cottage on Little Lucy Creek. This was truly my most enjoyable life experience. I was able to write, relax, and take the most incredible wildlife photographs right from the convenience of the marsh front deck. The hot tub was so relaxing and helped to heal my back and legs. This was my retirement gift to myself, and I could not have picked a more perfect place. Everything I could ever want or need was provided at the cottage. Local attractions were within a 10-20 ride. However, I did not get to do everything I had on my list. So, I'll be back. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with me.
