Secluded high on a mountainside and surrounded by thousands of acres of state park and conservation land, The Pod is a rustic early 1970's timber and glass octagon set on a concrete pedestal. Decks on four sides with forest or distant mountain views. One stream runs within 15 feet of the master bedroom, a second is about 100 yards from the house. Our closest neighbor's home is about 150 yards away and invisible through the woods; there are very few homes in the area.
Great food, culture, entertainment, and shopping are all within easy striking distance: Downtown Great Barrington, 7 miles; Stockbridge, 15 miles; Tanglewood/Lenox, 21 miles; Hudson NY, 23 miles; Salisbury CT, 15 miles.

Possible Caveats: We purchased The Pod from it's original owner 4 years ago. It's clean, complete, and with all systems in excellent working order, but the place could use some paint -- a few of the floor to ceiling double-pane windows have some fogging due to leaky seals. Lots of stairs; not recommended for small children.

A Fantastic Mountain Hideaway!

The Pod house is a wonderfully secluded little treehouse in the mountains. My husband and I stayed there during July and enjoyed the best that the Berkshires had to offer: art offerings, nature, and we even found wild blueberry patches! The owners are very easy to deal with and the place is cute and comfortable. It is far enough from the crowds to get away from it all, yet close enough to town to get a nice dinner.

Our week surrounded by mountains, state parks and great Berkshire towns.

My significant other and I truly enjoy the tranquil Berkshire environment. Staying at the Pod House only enhanced our experiences. Within minutes of the Pod, you will find state parks, swimming areas and great hiking paths. You are also only minutes away from interesting towns and other cultural institutions. Just have your coffee or tea on the deck while viewing breathtaking views as the sun rises is a sight to behold. Even while being in the kitchen or living room the outside views are right there with you. Through the windows of both bedrooms your sights of trees and nature are everywhere. The owners of the Pod House were very maticulous in ensuring that there guests were supplied with all the "tools of the trade" in the kitchen and elsewhere in the house. Obviously, by reading this review, you can tell we enjoyed ourselves staying at the Pod very much.

The Pod provides a lovely, woodsy setting with expansive views. The house is clean and cozy. The owners are easy to work with. While a bit of a trip to the Lenox, Stockbridge end of things, their spot is close to Great Barrington and some of the interesting Columbia County towns.

My husband and I could not have been more pleased with our stay at this property. The location was perfect: secluded and nestled in the woods, but close to great food and entertainment after a day of hiking. The home itself is full of great architectural details and has everything you need for a relaxing stay in the Berkshires. We plan to return again and again!
