Black Bear Lodge
Location: Asheville, Smoky Mountains, North Carolina, USA (6 Miles from the Center of Downtown Asheville, ~NC~) View Map
Accommodations: Cabin, 4 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths (Sleeps 8-10)
Keywords: Log Cabin - Black Bear Lodge
Just a few miles north of historic and eclectic Asheville, North Carolina, The Black Bear Lodge, built in 1987, is the most recent addition and focal point of a comfortably rustic icon of Americana known as the Log Cabin Court. Those 18 log cabins were built in the 1930's as an expanding highway system gave Americans a new freedom to roam and America cemented its love affair with the automobile.
But while the exterior of the Lodge, perched above the historic cabins nestled in the pines beneath, maintains the rustic feel of a bygone era, there’s nothing rustic about its interior, 1,900 square feet of warm and inviting wood. Step inside to a liberating and relaxing expanse of a combined great room, kitchen and dining areas, high ceilings and a large loft, ideal for groups of up to 10.
Step outside onto the wraparound deck, perfect for grilling underneath the pines or just sitting in a rocking chair and relaxing in the sun. On cooler days, cozy up to one of two fireplaces (one wood-burning with wood available on-site.)
The Black Bear Lodge is ideal for a romantic getaway, family gatherings, or, with rentals available in the Log Cabin Court, as home base for larger gatherings such as weddings. Three bedrooms are on the second floor, including the loft area graced by a beautiful antique, queen, four-poster bed. A bedroom with king-sized bed and fireplace on the first floor and queen-sized sleeper sofas in the Great Room round out the sleeping accommodations, detailed below.
Located between U.S. 25 and U.S. 19-23, the Black Bear Lodge is a natural haven, but close to urban areas. In addition to historic Asheville, and its abundant shopping, dining, arts, and entertainment, the world famous Grove Park Inn & Spa is less than 5 miles and the world famous Biltmore Estate, less than 8 miles. Take a leisurely stroll around Beaver Lake, less than 3 miles away or Lake Louise, just 6 miles away. Picnic alongside the French Broad River less than 3 miles and the Blue Ridge Parkway, just 10 miles away.
Other area attractions include: the quaint small town of Weaverville, a few miles to the north: the 435-acre North Carolina Arboretum; and, the Pisgah National Forest, with numerous activities such as mountain biking, swimming, and hiking. Horseback riding and balloon rides are available in the area, as is skiing at Wolf Laurel Ski Resort at just 19 miles or relaxing at the historic Hot Springs Spa, just 30 miles away. Within an hour or two drive are Harrah’s Cherokee Casino, Chimney Rock Park, Grandfather Mountain, the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad, and, of course, the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
