We stayed in Unit 1 with 2 BR and 1 bath. Loved the cottage. It was very homey, clean and comfortable. The front eat-in porch was priceless. Host is very flexible and available. The accomodations are accurate to the depiction. The location is amazing. You can walk to the little town with restaurants and stores. You can also walk to the most beautiful beach. We also went to the Selby Botanical Garden and to the Ringling Museum, both of which you need a car for. I would have been content to sit in the back yard retreat and hot tub or be at the beach. An amazing stay.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, pet owners.
Owner response: Thank you Susan for your review. We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay @ Siesta de Mayo Cottage and you were comfortable in Unit 1. Our goal is to offer our guest's a good value, clean unit with all the amenites needed for a relaxing stay. The gardens are a labor of love and we are constantly changing and improving them. Our location in the Village of Siesta is a favorite of our guest's. Nice to be able to walk everywhere. We hope to see you again. Sincerely, Charron Siesta de Mayo Cottage

This charming little cottage is in a great location. It is just a short walk to a beach access and right around the corner from Siesta Village with many restaurants and shops. This is the second year that I stayed in Unit 1. In 2011, I found it on the VRBO site and booked it for the month of Feb. I fell in love with it the minute I saw it. I just wanted something basic; not real fancy or pricey and I got more than that. The owner has fixed it up so it is very inviting and comfortable. It is small but there is enough room for others to come visit. Besides some friends that stayed with me, my daughter, her husband and grand daughter spent a week. With the king size bed room that they stayed in, we didn't feel cramped. The front screened porch, makes it seem a little roomier. I enjoyed my stay so much in 2011 that I booked it again for Feb. and two weeks in March of 2012. The owner added some nice updates this year, freshly painted bed rooms, flat screen tv. There is a common area with a smaller cottage #2 behind cottage #1. The owners have made that into a lovely relaxing area with umbrella table, grill and lounges and beautiful landscaping. My sister and her husband stayed in cottage #2 for the first two weeks in March and it was so nice sharing the common area. I do agree with one reviewer, that it can be awkward sharing that area with someone you don't know, especially if those occupants are unfriendly. I do not agree with the one reviewer who stated that the cottage was not well equipped. There were plenty of towels, sheets and the kitchen was very well stocked as far as any meal preparation. Also, I found it very clean and spotless. The owners go out of their way to make you feel comfortable and are very friendly and accommodating.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, pet owners.
Owner response: HiNancy, Thank you for taking the time to write a review of your stay @ Siesta de Mayo Cottage. It has been a dream and a labor love creating this property. We are consistantly looking for ways to improve the units and the property. You feedback is always valuable in making Siesta de Mayo Cottage more confortable for our guest's. We have updated the livingroom furniture in Unit 1 with a new loveseat and sofa to give our guest's a larger seating area. We have also defined the sideyard stitting area with plantings and seating. Each Unit now has a private area for themselves. Having a spotless unit is alwys stressed to our housekeeping staff and they do a great job. We now have 24/7 customer service for our guest's, so that if a qestion or problem arises we can be reached. We have reliable service people on hand to take care of any issue. Our location has proven to be a real plus for our guest's. The convenience of walking to the beach, shops, restuarants and last but not least Olaf's Ice cream. It has been a pleasure to meet you and your family and we look forward to seeing you in 2013 in one of the most beutiful places I have ever visited Siesta Key. Sincerely, Charron K Reed

My husband and I have visited many parts of Florida, but this was one of our favorites. Not only is the beach a short walk away, but shops and restaurants galore are just foot steps away. We stayed in the small cottage which sits behind the main unit. It was nicely decorated, very clean and roomy. The kitchen was equipped with everything you would need to prepare a meal (if you chose to cook). The yard was large with lots of places to socialize with other renters or sit by yourself. The owners were there during our stay, and were lovely and helpful in recommending restaurants as well as golf courses. If there was one quirk, it was the fluctuating reception on the WiFi. Sometimes you had to move arund the cottage to get reception. If you are looking for a great hide away or a great place to bring the kids, this is a perfect place!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car.
Owner response: Sally, Thank you for taking the time to give a review of your stay @ Siesta de Mayo Cottage. So glad you enjoy the property and the unit. Our location has proven to be very popular for our guests. We are always looking to upgrade and improve our property and always appreciate our guest's comments. We are currently working on better WIFI reception thanks to your comments. Hope to see you again next year! We (a couple in our 30s) stayed here for nearly 2 weeks (plus mother-in-law for the last 4 days) in September 2011 in the 2-bedroom unit and really enjoyed our stay. The property was charming, with wooden floors and really nice Florida decor (not tacky or cheapo feeling). It had all the conveniences we needed in terms of tv, internet, towels, linens, and equipped kitchen, and was spotlessly clean - it didn't feel used or grubby (always a risk!). We really enjoyed the front porch and had all our meals there, and the location can't be beat - a short walk from the nice area of the beach and 5 minute walk from the center of Siesta Village, so all the convenience of restaurants, store, beach etc without noise. The only drawback (and the only reason we gave it 4 stars instead of 5) is the shared yard. The yard itself is great - sun loungers, decked eating area with table and chairs, barbeque, and hot tub. We had it to ourselves the first few days, which was great since we got to use the hot tub, but another couple moved in to the other unit halfway through our stay - I think neither couple really felt comfortable using the shared areas, particularly on vacation where you want a little privacy. This setup would be ideal if vacationing in a group, e.g. a family group where you want a shared area but also some independence, but is a little awkward if you don't know the other occupants. Overall we had a great time and really enjoyed the property and its location, and will definitely go back - it's top of our list for the next Florida vacation since we were very happy with the location, quality, and cleanliness of the property.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Hi Elizabeth, Great to hear from you. Your positve and honest comments are grealt appreciated. When designing Siesta de Mayo Cottage I wanted a non condo feel to it,with a French Cottage meets Key West feel. The process is ongoing. Unit 1 now has new livingroom furniture and newly painted bedrooms. The sideyard sitting area has also been redesgined for unit 1. Our housekeeping staff does a excellent job and our guest's consistantly remark on the cleanliness of the units and grounds. I understand your concerns about the common area and have had some guest's make new friends with the other guests. Each unit does have it's own private sitting area. We have just added several new gardens to the common area and have had positive feedback from our guest's. We are the gardener's! Our location is one of the best in the area close to town but peacefull. Siesta Beach is now ranked Number 1 in continental USA and is a short walk through the Village of Siesta. Most of our longer term guest's this past season have already booked for next year. We also offer 24/7 customer service for our visitor's. If there is any type of problem or issue we want to hear from you... Hope you will visit Siesta de Mayo Cottage again and thank you for choosing to stay with us. Sincerely Charron K Reed Siesta de Mayo Cottage

This is not a private home. The main house has been transformed into a duplex with the 2 bedroom on one side and a studio on the other. In the back yard there is another one bedroom unit. The close quarters and paper thin walls only worked out for us because we were all family. We had the 2 bed unit and the one bed unit in the back yard. Luckily the studio was empty. Had we been staying there while strangers were renting the other units, it would have been extremely uncomfortable. The beds were comfortable but the linens were "good" at best. The one bath is so small you have to leave the bathroom to dress. The living room furniture seats 3 at best and the lounging type chair was dirty. The full kitchen had very little to work with. As far as the "tropical gardens" goes...they were native Florida plants that needed a good prunning. Our Hot tub was unusable until the 4th day of our stay. (Dirty and smelled) The washer dryer was filthy and the Wi-Fi never worked at all. All of this aside the location and price were perfect and if it had not been for the owner our 2 families would be returning to Siesta De Mayo at least 3 times a year. However before we arrived, we were reminded 4 times (not once but 4) not to have loud parties and disturb the neighbors. After check out were were accused of several things we did NOT do. She claims we moved the furniture and chipped paint on the walls.(um why would we rearange the furniture?) She accused us leaving black marks on the comforter which she claims is a rare linen.(why would you put an expensive white linen on the bed in a beach vacation rental?) She accused us of leaving food in the oven. (we never used the oven) But the best one was when she accused us of stealing the battery out of the fire alarm. (really??) By the way if you turn the heater on while you are there, the fire alarm goes off. This is how I KNOW there was a battery in there during our stay. At first she was going to dock our deposit however she ended up sending it all back. Probably for fear of a bad review. I mean Karma is not a good thing. Just sayin.... I believe the other "good" reviews were written by her friends that stay there so I wouldn't put too much on them. The friends don't want to screw up a cheap rental on the beach. So if she hadn't treated us like Kindergarteners (we had no plans of throwing a kegger) and then accused us of doing things we didn't do, then we would have been back. And brought chlorine for the hot tub, an air card...Owner response: Thank you for your comments and suggestions. We at Siesta de Mayo Cottage strive to make our guest's stay a relaxing and enjoyable one. We offer 24/7 customer service and we were glad we were able to resolve the hot tub and WIFI issues when we spoke to you. Sincerely, Siesta de Mayo Cottage Charron K Reed

I am an avid vacationer to the Sarasota/Siesta Key area and go there as often as possible, but this year I decided to rent a place in the Village on Siesta Key so I could be near the beach. I found this place simply by searching the web, and I have to say it was a great find! It is truly a hidden treasure amongest all the other places to stay on Siesta Key. It is in a quiet neighborhood, but within walking distance to the beach, shops and restaurants. The house was very clean, offered all the ammenities one would need and was a very cute and quaint place to stay. I stayed for a little over a week and felt like I was at home - not your typical hotel stay which can be very non-cozy. I would recommend this place to anyone wanting to get away and be near the beach and not have to pay a high rate. I will certainly visit here again!!!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, girls getaway, tourists without a car.
Owner response: Glenda So happy to hear you enjoyed Siesta de Mayo Cottage....We have truly tried to make the cottage something more than a condo...Key West meets French Country Cottage...We are constantly upgrading the property with gardens and the unit Our location has proved to be very popular.....walking to the beach and to the Village for dinner We hope that you will come see us again. Stay here and get best of several worlds. Be a “villager”-You are literally just around the corner from the unique, picturesque, laid back village of Siesta Key. You can walk to town to eat, drink, shop or grab a coffee. Siesta de Mayo also offers the option of walking to the grocery store and coming home to cook for yourself. Both units are well appointed….dishes, cookware, serving dishes, towels, linens, etc. Try being a “beach bum”- The main Siesta Key beach is a short ride away….better yet a smaller, more private stretch of beach (less populated, less distance to the water) is right down the street. Heaven! To make this place even more perfect….rent a bike at one of the village bike shops. Either beach would be a short, gorgeous ride from Siesta de Mayo. Get a taste of “Old Florida” – You literally feel like you are getting a “slice of the Old Florida lifestyle” when you stay here. The cottage is perfect…cozy, simple, well located, extremely clean, and full of the necessities. The outside of the property is amazing….the owner is quite a gardener. There is also an outdoor grilling area. You are in a beautiful neighborhood. If you are looking for a high rise, pre-packaged, “Disney-fied” property….this is not for you. If you want ease, comfort, authenticity, relaxation, and a breath of fresh air…this is perfect for you. I stayed for over a month and experienced both units. I love both and can’t wait to return.Recommended for: People with disabilities, sightseeing, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car.
