We were only able to stay for a short time, but the location for winter access to the Park is great. We saw more wildlife between Gardiner and Cooke City then we did spending four days at the Old Faithful Lodge, but that was great too! Winter is a wonderful time to visit Yellowstone and the Gardiner area allows you the freedom to travel into the park, on your own ,without a guided tour. The cabin is well-built, clean, and the beds are very comfortable. The family is very responsive during the booking process so don't hesitate to rent this cabin.

Electric Peak Cabin is a well equipped cabin within short driving distance of North Yellowstone Park Entrance. Full size frig and stove and dishwasher in kitchen, along with microwave. Beautiful views.. Bring binoculars and spotting scope for wildlife and clear night skies... Purchase groceries before leaving Bozeman or at supermarket near North Park Entrance... Nice porch in front with sitting chairs... Convenient to use for day trips into the Park... Cabin is new construction, owners reside to rear of cabin, some distance back, so there is still element of privacy... Television is more in the category of a computer monitor, but hopefully you did not come here to watch tv... Room for an RV to pull onto the site and a fire pit with room to spare... Area is renowned for sulphur springs, therefore tap water has a slight aftertaste... some folks could refer to this as "mineral water", however if this turns you off, bring your own bottled water... Approx 1 1/2 hours to Bozeman and 15 minutes to Park Entrance, provide easy travel... Owners are very strict about no pets / no smoking which is reflected on the rental agreement.... Which worked fine for us as we flew in & out w/o pets and are not smokers... WiFi was a plus... Owners and family pretty much kept to themselves and enjoyed life, but were there if something was needed... If you prefer to make your own path away from the "motel zones", you will appreciate this property....

We loved our 4 days in Electric Peak cabin! When we look for a get-away from the hustle bustle of the Dallas Ft. Worth metroplex...we don't look for fancy. We want something clean, cozy, private, but memorable. Electric Peak provided all of that! We basically explored Yellowstone Park all day long and then came home to the cabin to sit on the porch and reflect on our day's adventures. Perfect!

My wife and I spent an evening at the Electric Peak cabin and found it to be perfect for our needs. We wanted to stay close to Yellowstone, but we also wanted to enjoy the peace and quiet of the outdoors. The cabin is set on a hill above the highway, and you neither see nor hear the road. The result is perfect tranquility, access to wildlife (we saw a herd of bighorn sheep), and deep black skies. We will certainly look forward to staying here again on our next trip to Yellowstone!

We had a great experience at Electric Peak Cabin and Yellowstone National Park. The cabin was in a perfect location, very clean and had comfortable beds. We were lucky enough to experience a bison jam where our car was surrounded by approx 50 bison. We also saw a black bear and many other animals. If you are looking for a place to unwind and relax- this is the perfect spot for you!

We stayed in the Electric Peak Cabin in August 2011 with our 3 kids. It's a perfect and peaceful place to stay. It was nice to return "home" at the cabin after the long days at Yellowstone. The cabin has a wonderful view, lots of privacy and is very clean (which was a very big plus). I would certainly recommend the cabin to friends and relatives if they're planning a trip to the USA and in particular Yellowstone. Todd, thanks for your hospitality!

There is truly no better place to enjoy Yellowstone! We will stay there again. The location is convenient, scenery outstanding, and the lodging is clean, new, and suitable for any family. Our kids had a blast climbing and mountain biking around the property, enjoying the horses and chickens, and the outdoors in general. The grandparents loved sitting on the porch every morning, drinking coffee, and in the evenings to watch the kids play and the fabulous sunsets behind the mountains. Gardiner is a cute little town with great restaurants and little shops. The Koel family was entirely kind and hospitable as they could be. I would definitely recommend this experience to anyone!

My family stayed at the Electric Peak Cabin the week of June 20th. The Cabin was clean and cozy. The Beds were comfortable and nicely made up. We had everything we needed to cook meals in the kitchen. The cabin is in a great location, just north of Gardiner Mt. and the north entrance to Yellowstone. You can find anything you might need from groceries to whitewater rafting in town. Todd was helpful in recommending a rafting company as there are many to choose from, and he was available but not intrusive during our stay. The view from the cabin is wonderful. It is just a very relaxing atmosphere. I would recommend this cabin to any family looking for a nice relaxing place to stay while exploring the many wonders of Yellowstone.

My family found the cabin to be just what we needed for our second trip to YNP in as many years. The location was great to visit the park each day, close to the north gate and not directly in Gardiner. The condition and amenities of the cabin were wonderful, Plus the views from the front porch of the Yellowstone River valley and the mountains were beautiful.

This cabin is CLEAN, and cute, with a gorgeous view. There was a flock of wild big horned sheep right up front when we arrived. We enjoyed our stay here very much. The best VRBO property we have stayed at as a family. The owners are extremely friendly and accomodating. We enjoyed 5 days of touring Yellow Stone with this cabin as our home base. A fun relaxing outing was an evening visit to the Chico Hot Springs. We also rafted the Yellow Stone River with the Flying Pig rafting company in Gardiner.

We truly enjoyed our stay at the cabin. It was the perfect size for our family of four and everything we could possibly need was provided for us. The kitchen was complete with all the neccessities needed for us to prepare all of our meals, and the beds were super comfy to come back to after long days of hiking Yellowstone. The view is spectacular and we were greeted by mountain goats the first day, and woke up the next day to deer in the yard. During our second trip to the park it started to snow and didn't stop. It was so nice to come back to the cabin and a nice hot shower. We curled up with a bowl of popcorn and watch movies with the kids while the snow fell outside. We would definitly recommend this cabin to anyone looking to explore Yellowstone, and we hope to return ourselves in the near future.

We used this cabin as our base point for exploring the North part of Yellowstone after having made our way up South from Jackson. It is about a 5-10 min drive to the Roosevelt Arch and the town of Gardiner has all amenities (laundry, groceries, gas, rafting trips, etc) it is a good base point to explore the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness as well. The cabin is 100-200 ft from the main road and you climb slightly uphill to get it so you have an unobstructed view of the mountains and the owners (Sallie and Todd) did a good job of putting three very large picture windows in the front of the cabin so wherever you sit in the front area (kitchen/living room) you have a great view. A lot of mule deer visited the cabin area while we were there, buffalo were common in other parts and Osprey's along the river. The cabin has an open kitchen-living room layout that makes interaction while preparing the meals enjoyable. There are varied sizes of cookware so your cooking options are many. Only four of us stayed there, two in each room, while the room with the full-twin bunk could sleep an extra person, if more than five people stayed they would need to sleep in the living room futon so might not be an ideal situation. There is a TV and a small DVD selection with family appropriate movies, perfect for rainy days (which fortunately we did not have any!). The best thing about this cabin is that it is the only cabin in the property (along with the owners' house) so it is extremely private and quite. Unlike motels, you have no noisy neighbors or traffic from other lodgers, it is a breath of fresh air compared to the other lodging options available at Gardiner, that seems to be characterized by overcrowded motel options. We were there in the low season and enjoyed this feature, can only imagine that during the high season this is even more enjoyable. Not sure if there is outdoor furniture in the Summer, if not you might want to consider taking some lawn chairs to sit on the lovely front porch (we were there when the weather was just warming up). The bedding (linens) and the towels were of a very good quality and freshly laundered so the sleep experience was very good. We enjoyed having a dishwasher as we prepared most of our meals and this helped save with cleanup time. Todd and Sandie were very good about making sure we had everything we needed to make this cabin a home away from home. All the necessities are there and then some. Thanks!
Owner response:Unmatched privacy only 5.0 miles to the park entrance and best wildlife viewing the lower 48 US has to offer. Today there were tiny baby bighorn sheep kids following their mothers through the steep rocky slopes right above us - they must have velcro on their feet! Really awesome to live with all these wildlife! Regarding the big front porch on the cabin, yes we move chairs out there around the end of May for relaxing and absorbing the tremendous views. This is really awesome at first light or at sun down, when the mountains turn gorgeous colors. Also often commented on by our guests is the brightness of the stars at night....there are no street lights here, and the night sky is unreal.

We were amazed with the cabin. Everything you could ask for. Two bedrooms (all decked out with the classic log cabin feel), bath, full kitchen, living area, tv (dvd only - a basic antenna would have been nice), and wi-fi. Immaculate condition and a few miles outside of town. Still near all the necessities but far enough away to get the semi-isolated feel. And a great view of the mountains. Two nights we were also greeted with by a herd of deer when we got back to the cabin. We really could not believe how much we got for the winter rate! Excellent location too. We were concerned about staying outside of Yellowstone, but really it only added a tiny bit more driving than you would do if you stayed inside Yellowstone. After all, the park is 3000+ sq miles! You can expect you're going to spend a good amount of time in the car. In town, I would highly recommend the 'Yellowstone Perk' for your morning coffee. Very friendly staff and quality service. I would NOT recommend the Chinese restaurant. Very bland overpriced food and stingy owners to boot!
Owner response:In our cabin log Kevin and his guests wrote that the "elusive Todd" may be the most difficult animal to see in Yellowstone. We love it! Here if you need us, not a bother if you don't! Thanks so much!

We stayed at the Electric Peak cabin in March, 2011. Not only was the cabin warm, clean, and comfortable, but we found it to be an incredible location for photographing wildlife. Each day, we saw several hundred elk, numerous bison, and often times even bighorn sheep grazing from a few hundred yards to mere feet of the cabin. I know summer is the popular time, but to have the Park and the animals on winter range to yourself, consider a visit in the early spring. This is a great spring base for wildlife viewing both in and out of the Park.

This cabin was the perfect getaway spot close to the park and Gardiner yet better than any Motel could offer. We will definitley recommend this place to everyone we know, and will also be back ourselves. The owner and host was very great and the cabin was totally inviting. We woke up our first morning to Buffalo by our vehicle,Deer in the yard and Elk on the hill. Went into the park after a fresh snow and saw more animals than ever before. Best winter getaway spot by far and cannot wait to go in the summer.

We had a great time visiting the Yellowstone area and this cabin was the perfect place to stay. Great views, comfortable beds and easy access, We saw bears-grizzly and 3 different colors of black bear. Also the usual elk and bison and even a snowshoe jackrabbit. Pronghorn sheep were near the cabin and bluebirds were everywhere. One of the GREAT things to do every night was to pull the chairs into the yard and look at the stars- shooting stars every night and so many stars, they looked like clouds- UNBELIEVABLE! Great place to stay and would recommend it to anyone!

My husband, my adult daughter, and I spent a few nights here at EP Cabin, and found it to be spotless, convenient, and comfortable. It is a labor of love, built by the owners, and carefully tended. Yellowstone Park is a short ten-minute drive, and lots to see and do in nearby Gardiner. The view from the front porch is spectacular, and Todd is a hospitable man, knowledgable about local sports and activities, and quite helpful.

This is a really great place and todd is a great guy to deal with. Its a comfortable, simple, clean base of operations for checking out the yellowstone area, and I'd be hard pressed to find a cooler mountain to look out on at breakfast. Very close to the park entrance and the town of gardiner for getting supplies. I recommend this place and would definitely go back if I ever get the chance to visit northern yellowstone again. A few small suggestions to make this place perfect - nightstands next to the beds to put your glasses or a book - some chairs out on the porch, to take in the view - a charcoal grill out on the porch (okay I'm just a lover of charcoal grilled food, and couldn't think of better place to fire up a steak), although I realize that fire danger is a pretty serious concern in that area at times.
Owner response:Bears are in the neighborhood and this is thier home too during part of the year, a grill is available if anybody would like one, we just can't leave one outside the cabin, other suggestions regarding the interior we have taken to heart and made right, thanks much, Todd

We visited Yellowstone for one week on our 6-month journey from the Netherlands. We had a very pleasant stay. Unfortunately many of the roads in Yellowstone were still closed, however we visited Mammoth Hot Springs, Lamar Valley, and Tower Falls. We went swimming in the Boiling River (recommended!)and we saw lots and lots of wildlife: hundreds of bison and elk, pronghorn, deer, coyotes, bighorn sheep. We missed out on the bears. We also enjoyed the wildlife around the cabin. Thanks alot for everything, and to you Justin, Aaron, Ryan, and Tyler for letting us use your bikes!! Thursday we are leaving for West Glacier (thanks Tod for the route info). A few months in Canada before going back home in July.

A fantastic trip! My second trip to the park and the first for my son Harry and Uncle John. The weather has been perfect. Enough snow to make it beautiful, but not enough to slow us down! We have seen wolves, grizzly bears, bison, fox, and yet more bison! Norris was amazing in that snow with blue skies, Canyon in the snow was awesome as well! The cabin is great! So warm!! An ideal location in a beautiful spot. We will be back!!Many thanks to the Koel's for making us welcome!

We stayed 7 nights in September and it was fantastic! The cabin was great with everything we needed and the views were awesome too. An easy 5 minute drive from Yellowstone - where we saw deer, elf, bison, a wolf and a Grizzly! Big horn sheep right on the property! We will definitely be back but which season to choose?!
Owner response:Other comments from the Thayer's as written in the cabin guestbook: Our first couple of days here we had friends from Missoula join us in the cabin. We went to see the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone and Old Faithful. We were fortunate enough to see elk, bison, bighorn sheep, mule deer, and a wolf. We got to hear an elk bugle and a wolf howl. We took Mt. Washburn trail up to a lookout (at 10,000 feet) and that was awesome! This was our second trip to Yellowstone. The first time was with our kids - that was five years ago. Now we want to come out every five years! After our friends left we drove from the cabin down to the Tetons and like last time we still think that it is the most beatiful mountian range we've seen - and we've seen the Swiss Alps!! We drove nearly every open mile of road in the park and most of them a couple times. We drove the Blacktail Plateau (near the cabin) at least three times because this is where a black bear walked right in front of our car on our last trip here. This time we saw a black bear and also a large Grizzly feeding on a carcass just off the road.

This is the first family vacation we've had in a while, and I could not think of a better place and time. The lack of heat and bugs is great this time of year. Location, location, location! It was perfect - just far enough away to relax and enjoy the amazing mountains and big sky! We had a different "show" every night and morning, and the stars at night were amazing! What a wonderful time we had at Electric Peak cabin. We spent 10 days in Yellowstone, but the best were the six nights at your darling cabin. We saw more wildlife from the porch than we did in the Park! (Well, almost!) Your cabin had all the perfect touches to make it the number one "home away from home" that we were hoping for. Thanks again for your Western hospitality, and for being such great "neighbors". We will be back:) Sincere thanks, The Campbells
Owner response:Other comments from the Campbell's as written in the cabin guestbook: We are so proud of ourselves - did Mt Washburn! Took 6 hours but what a great hike! On the way "home" we stopped in the hot pools of the Gardiner River and soaked our weary bones - Then ate at the great restaurant with the 2nd story view of the entrance to Yellowstone. It was nice and quite and the view of the mountains and stars were great! Some storms rolled in at night which was very cool to see. The cabin is close to Gardiner and the entrance to Yellowstone. We instantly appreciated the aesthetics of this cabin hide-away. It was comfortable, well-equipped, and certainly boasts the starriest skies imaginable! We traveled to the Lamar Valley where we enjoyed the expansive landscape, color, and wildlife. It was an inspiring place and we also enjoyed a hike up to Trout Lake where we encountered fly fisherman catching and releasing very large cutthroat trout. A bison stood by. The following day we traveled to Norris and observed quite a confrontation between two bull elk. They bugled, postured, and eventually found a way to co-exist - thank goodness! We enjoyed the hot springs, geysers, and thermal activity at Norris. We enjoyed the mud pots the most. We later ate lunch on the bank of a stream, and on the way back to Gardiner, we hiked the trail to Beaver Pond. Back to Vermont tomorrow, thank you for the comfortable haven at Electric Peak Cabin!

We were a group of 16 that had the awesome privilege of being the first to stay at the Koel's cabin. We used the cabin and both RV hookups. We didn't stay at the cabin very long as we toured Yellowstone from sun up to sundown. We had a blast and ended up putting right at 1,000 miles on our Suburban-inside the park! The cabin and location made it very nice not to be right next to someone at a campsite and it was close enough to the North entrance to get the park quickly. We will certainly never forget our trip to Yellowstone and the Koel cabin made the experience that much better.

We had a great time here on our first trip to Yellowstone. The cabin was exactly what we had hoped for. We saw quite a bit of wildlife...elk, bison, bald eagles, to name a few. You have a great place here and we thank you for helping us make wonderful family memories!

The beds were comfy! We loved the cabin - and meeting Sandie and Todd - very nice hosts! We are sure future guests will enjoy the cabin and location to Yellowstone as much as we did.

This place is perfect for a base to explore Yellowstone or just relax. My wife and 2 teenage sons stayed here in July and spent a week. We found the place new, clean and comfortable and just as it had been advertised. We sat out on the deck at night and enjoyed the sunset at dusk and the brilliant star display later that evening. The view of the mountains to the west of the cabin, one with snow still on its peak was beautiful. One day we were treated to mountain goats in the yard that had wondered down from the hills to graze. Each day we would trek into Yellowstone to explore something new. The cabins close proximity to the northern gate of the park made this easy. It is only a few miles out of Gardiner Montana which is located on Yellowstone’s Roosevelt gate. The town was big enough to have a fair share of restaurants and other amenities to make our stay comfortable and that we appreciated. I found the owners to be very accessible and friendly something I have come to expect from the people of Montana. My niece and her husband stayed here the year before and came back raving about it. After viewing her pictures and hearing her stories I decided to inquire into a stay of my own. I could not have been more pleased. We could have stayed in the Park but I felt this place was less hectic, crowded and felt much more like a private cabin in the mountains. With the Yellowstone River just across the road, I was tempted to look into one of the may rafting trips that I saw traveling down the river. I plan to come back again.
