Once the home of Pedro Alvarado’s sister, Casa de las Campanas, in Antigua, Guatemala is a classic Spanish Colonial home furnished with period antiques and pre-Columbian artifacts. It was completely restored in 1929 maintaining its original Colonial flavor but adding modern conveniences such as running water and electricity. The home has been meticulously maintained ever since. Located directly behind the Cathedral, it is one block from the ‘Parque Central’ and a stone’s throw from the fantastic restaurants, elegant shops and historic sights Antigua is famous for.
The gracious home has a large living room with fireplace and skylights, a lovely patio garden with fountain for enjoying a pre-lunch glass of wine after a long morning of sightseeing. It also has an office / library in case you were foolish enough to bring work, and a fully furnished kitchen where your meals will be prepared for you by my cook Tina Gamez. There is high speed wireless internet and a US phone # so you can stay in touch with the US without added phone charges.
The home has two bedrooms to choose from, each with private bath. The 'Salon de Rosas' gets morning sun streaming into the spacious bedroom which has two extra long double beds, its own sitting space, a desk, and a large bathroom with shower and bidet. The 'Estudio Azul' is cozy and serene, and has one queen size bed and a sitting space. The large picture window frames a private garden area, and the private bath has a tub.
Staff Services Included in Your Stay:
Tina is my house manager and cook. She has been with me for over 20 years and she is wonderful. Tina will make sure that your day begins with a hearty Breakfast at 9:00 AM, which includes a selection of fresh fruit, delicious coffee (regular or deaf, Americano or espresso) fresh baked bread, homemade strawberry jam and eggs ‘al gusto’. The Huevos Rancheros are to die for. I wont bore you with all the menus but take it from me, she is fantastic. The big meal of the day is at 1 PM and dinner is usually lighter. Dietary restrictions can be accommodated. Tina does not speak English but if you need anything she some how makes it happen.
Lucky (Loukie) keeps the house clean, provides daily laundry service, does the market shopping, and helps Tina in the kitchen. Each morning she will make up the beds and provide fresh towels in you bathroom. After serving breakfast she will clean all the house.
Gustavo is the Gardener and night watchman and is available to spend the night in the staff quarters upon request. Gustavo will be on hand the evening of your arrival and the morning of your departure, if you arrive after 6 PM and depart before 8 AM.
Private Transportation Service: Mario has been the family driver for more than 10 years. He will meet your flight and bring you directly to the house. He will also return you to the airport at the end of your stay. This service is included in your rental. You can also make your own arrangements with Mario for other trips in Guatemala. Mario’s prices are reasonable and he is completely dependable. I would NOT recommend you rent a car in Guatemala.
Other services available for an extra charge:
Masseuse Service at Home: My masseuse will come to the home to give you a private massage. Her fee is reasonable, she speaks English, and the two hour massage transports you to another world.
Private Car and Driver: We can help you plan an excursion to Guatemala City, a trip to the Guatemalan Highlands and a visit the Maya ruins in Tikal.
