The set-up for this property was perfect for my family. One side housed four teenaged girl cousins in the loft, plus parents in the two downstairs bedrooms. Across the screened porch were my husband and I, in the loft on the side of the property with the kitchen and living room. Everyone had their own space. The house has a good supply of pots, pans, cooking utensils, and a great grill. Plenty of games and outdoor sports equipment too -- volleyball was a challenge sport for us. The location is an easy two-block walk to the beach, making different groups coming and going simple. A short distance to downtown Bethany, too. We recommend Fenwick Crab House south on Rt. 1 a few miles. All-you-can-eat crabs for $28.95, including sides. A great deal! The property owners are the best! -- very responsive to questions, helpful, and just plain nice. It's not the Ritz, but perfect for extended families and a good deal for the price.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children.

This was the perfect house for us. It was clean and comfortable and the way the space is divided was ideal. The boys and their friends had one side of the house and we had the other. At least we slept well. We really appreciated all the extras like the volleyball net, the hammock, the bikes and beach items. The location was also perfect, easy to walk to the beach or get into town. I would recommend this property and hope to stay there again myself.Recommended for: Families with teenagers

This is a wonderful cottage in "The Pines" section of Middlesex Beach. A short walk across the highway to the beach, close to Shore Foods and places to eat. Cottage is roomy and quiet. Enjoyed the outdoor shower, porch swing, and quiet bedrooms away from the main living area. Owners were very easy to deal with.Recommended for: People with disabilities, families with teenagers, families with young children.

This was our third year at this property and we look forward to it all year. The setting is very wooded and spacious - especially compared to other rentals in the Bethany Beach area. Close to Rt 1, but not so close that traffic can be heard, the beach is less than a 10 minute walk. Middlesex beach is dramatically less crowded than the areas to the north. This is a very clean and well maintained property. Bethany Beach is a long but doable walk. A great fish market is at the end of the street on Rt 1. We enjoy both Mickey's Crab House and the Cottage Cafe, both of which are easy walks. We definitely recommend it.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children.

This is truly what a cottage should be: comfortable, room for everyone to be together yet with private spaces, full of character, and with a wonderful screened porch! We were only here for a long weekend but managed to enjoy the very private beach, ride the bicycles, play games, cook and barbeque, walk through the lovely, quiet neighborhood, watch football on the large screen TV, dine at Fat Tuna's and catch an arts festival on the boardwalk. The owners have provided everything guests could need and were very accommodating. We were a group of various aged adults, but this place is perfect for families as well. My own would have loved it as children! I certainly look forward to returning.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

Our second year at 17 Errett Road. This is a good practical layout for small or large family (plus friends): two 'separate' cottages with A/C, linked by roofed, screened breezeway/porch. Well set-up clean kitchen with good counter space and lots of equipment for lobster or crab, two grills out back, and spare gas and charcoal (restock if you use, please, so I don't HAVE to go shopping right away - thanks). We fed 8 hungry beach bums with minimal effort and no elbowing. Big pines shade the house, and there is the traditional outdoor shower. About 1/4 mile walk to the water, or take the car with private access hangtag for Middlesex Beach. Five minutes to downtown Bethany's fleshpots and the boardwalk: and a great bookstore. There are bikes, boogie boards, frisbees, big and small beach chairs, wireless router, biggish cable TV, AND a 1/2 size playhouse/cottage for the kids. Two and a half bathrooms (showers) so you can put the kids in one side and pretty much ignore them the whole trip. A TV in both sides helps with this plan. My favorite place nearby is the Fat Tuna out Route 26 about 3 miles: big, boisterous, noisy, very reasonable A-one fresh seafood cooked and seasoned perfectly: better make reservations. Try Oscar the Rockfish: a huge fresh rockfish hunk with crabmeat, asparagus, Hollandaise, and garlic mashed. I've paid twice as much elsewhere, for less tasty goodies. The owners are very supportive and accessible. Have a good time.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Rated 9.5 / 10 We had a great time! On the way home, I asked everyone to rate the vacation and I got a 9.5 out of ten. Pretty good! The house worked really well for us. It's an unusual setup with the "two houses" bridged by the open air area in the middle but surprisingly it works extremely well. The biggest advantage for us was for the kids. They could sleep in the morning or early evening or for a nap while we felt comfortable in the kitchen side making noise or meals or watching a movie or whatever. I often enjoyed reading on the porch in the evening when it was cool. Here are some other random thoughts: -love the quiet street and neighborhood - love the big property, just has a wonderful spacious and rustic feeling -love the Middlesex Beach, way less crowded, excellent guards, not a bad walk -nice to have the little shops at the end of the street: Chinese, Dollar Store, Shore Foods and Subway...all very handy -ice maker makes ice fast! handy for beach cooler every day -great to have "support": beach chairs, boogie boards, wagon, etc. -girls loved the playhouse -nice to have the bikes -outdoor shower rated "best shower ever" by the boys -everything well stocked....e.g. it was nice to have some spices in the cabinet already and little things like that -furniture is "just right" The house is not a showroom and that's how I like it. (We did a trip to Ocean City once and stayed in a nice new place- and that was the problem. We were afraid to sit down. Too new and too nice. And it was sterile.) This place has character and charm -house is big enough for our clan; just right not too big not too small -area is centrally located to Bethany and Fenwick area -had crabs and shellfish from Steamers: surprised at how fresh it all was and what a difference that makes -we also really enjoyed the 10 day stay. Longer than a week but not too long. It's the first time we've done this and I can't imagine just doing a week now. I'll offer a couple of suggestions: - wish the exterior stairs were wider, particularly in the back. They are just very narrow and with my big feet I was always worried about missing one. It's a small thing but thought I'd mention it. -also wouldn't mind having one more drying line. We just had so much to dry it seemed. That's about it. Expect us to contact you sometime next year!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

We had a great time during our stay and we just LOVED this house. It had everything we needed and more. We were able to take advantage of beach toys, bikes and even a playhouse! The set up was great with a wonderful screened in porch, open living room and plenty of beds for our group of ALL ages. The owners gave us very detailed information about the house and Bethany. We loved the Middlesex community, with it's huge yards but short walks to the beach! This house is perfect!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

The house was wonderful. Upon our arrival the house was spotless. We loved how close it was to the beach, which wasn't crowded. The grocery was also in walking distance. We spent a lot of time in the large screened-in porch. The cable TV was great and so was the assortment of boardgames! The A/C works perfectly too. Everything was excellent! And the owners were very nice and quickly answered any questions we had.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway.

We had a great time here...only a 10 minute walk to a private beach, easy to find, close to restaraunts, shopping, and the boardwalk. The air conditioning works very well, which was greatly appreciated! The owners are very friendly and are very generous with sharing their boogie boards, beach chairs, and umbrella. Well worth the drive from Northern Virginia.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Our favorite aspect of this rental property is the location. Only 2 blocks to the beach and about a mile (easy bike ride) to town. Second favorite is the private beach. It's so much less crowded and just the way vacations should be. Also, loved the private and wooded lot and that we were able to rent an entire home for the price of what a 1 or 2 bd condo would be on the beach. This is a great vacation home and we're already planning our return trip for next year!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway.
