Accommodations: Cottage, 3 Bedrooms + No additional sleeping rooms avail, 3 Baths (Sleeps 8)
Keywords: Cottage
"Quail's Nest" cottage is beautifully decorated, was built only 8 years ago and has all the amenities of a new home (high ceilings, heart pine floors, central heat and air, and appliances that work really well, including new washer and dryer in the separate laundry room). There are 2 porches for relaxing and 3 bedrooms & 3 baths (one with a soaking tub). The downstairs area contains our 14 year old son's bedroom with 2 twin beds and a living room/playroom with a gas fireplace. He loves having his own suite, as do his friends when they come to visit.
We love taking long walks throughout Saluda and strolling into town for lunch or dinner or to visit our favorite shops (Summer House and Salamander). It is so relaxing to hang out in the hammock under the huge poplar trees, to enjoy a quiet lunch or dinner on the porch, and to sip coffee on the porch on the cool mountain mornings!
You will love the small town feeling (only about 700 permanent residents in Saluda). It will definitely remind you of Mayberry! In fact, there isn't even one traffic signal in the entire town! It is full of warm, friendly people, and you will instantly feel right at home!

Why the Owner Chose Saluda
Saluda is only a 4 hour drive from Hilton Head Island, and we wanted a place that close so we could still enjoy our Friday evenings. We used to vacation in Highlands and Cashiers, but it would take almost 6 hours to get there, and we'd be exhausted when we got there. Now, we leave Hilton Head at 3 after our son gets out of school, and we are there by 7 p.m. with lots of time to unpack, unwind and enjoy dinner at the Purple Onion or Saluda Grade restaurants, which are only a block away! We love spending the rest of the evening sitting on one of the porches and taking in the cool mountain air and the peace and quiet.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage
The main benefit of Quail's Nest is that it is so close to Hilton Head Island (4 hour drive) and very close to Charleston, Columbia, Greenville, Spartanburg, etc. It is such a short walk to Main Street (restaurants, shops, Mayberry feeling, etc.). It is also about 30 minutes from Dupont State Forest, which has beautiful waterfalls and 80 miles of hiking and mountain biking trails. We go there almost every time we are in Saluda. It is all just so relaxing and stress-free, so it is a great getaway spot!
Owner's Map of Saluda
We live full time in Hilton Head Island, but we really feel at peace in the mountains. We have been visiting the Saluda area for over 12 years, because our 2 kids went to summer camp at Camp Wayfarer, which is 10 minutes from Saluda. We love the small town feel of Saluda and the friendly people who live there or own vacation/second homes there. We have met lots of second home owners from Mt. Pleasant/Charleston area and enjoy celebrating Coon Dog Day with them every July. We have several walking routes from Quail's Nest, including one that takes us to a friend's home where they raise alpacas and have horses, a mule, goats, and pot bellied pig named Oinky. The "kids" love visiting the animals. We also love visiting Asheville, especially the art galleries downtown. It is a very funky and fun city. You will love everything about the area. We sure do! --Jack & Jana Qualey
