This is a wonderful family home that sits on the top-of-the-ridge at the Running Y. The rear deck of the house faces down the ridge to the golf course and the front faces the lake. The house is located in in a cul-de-sac in one of the most desirable locations of the ranch. This cul-de-sac on the ridge has a group of wonderful neighbors who built their homes when these most desirable lots were available. It is a quiet neighborhood with access to all the hiking and biking trails right from the home.
We had this home with three car garage built for us in 1998 by one of the finest local builders to be our luxurious retirement home. Work called us to another location so now you may enjoy a really special place in the Oregon Cascades.
The Running Y Ranch was owned by the Disney family before it was purchased for a destination resort ranch. The Disney's enjoyed the 10,000 acre historic working cattle ranch because of the abundant wildlife that has been on this property for centuries. Deer will lay in the backyard and you will see geese, eagles and an occasional cougar. Don't worry - they are very timid!!
The Running Y marsh is an area where birds and water fowl are counted annually because of their number that fly through on the pacific fly-way. Bring your binoculars because birds are everywhere. There is even a pair of eagles that annually nest nearby.
In addition to the home, there is an apartment with a separate entrance that can be rented if your group is larger than will fit into the main home. The apartment has one bedroom, bath, kitchen, living and dining area plus a deck of its own. There is a double bed and in the living room a sofa bed and a large chair that houses a single bed, so it can sleep 5. The cost to rent the apartment is $75/day (additional cleaning fee of $40).

My husband and I stayed here with both of our parents. The focus of our trip was on photography: birds, and scenery. The Klamath Basin offers excellent birding opportunities, and the Running Y Resort is a wonderful, relaxing area to come home too. After a full day afield, we could come back and watch the birds come to the front porch feeder. This home was the perfect place for our family vacation. Spacious, clean, and well-appointed, it has everything you might need to enjoy your stay. There is even a fitness center you can take advantage of (though we were too busy admiring the wildlife). The wireless internet is nice, so you can escape from it all but still check your e-mail or download a visitor guide to the Lava Beds National Monument, which, by the way, is worth spending a day to explore the caves! We really enjoyed our stay. I only wish we could have stayed longer. We visited with our 3 grandkids, who absolutely loved the house! The upsairs bedroom and the deck out back were their favoriye parts! We all enjoyed the wildlife. There were lots of deer and plenty of different birds fluttering about the bird feeders on the deck. We went up to Lake of the Woods for sledding and caving out at the Lava Beds. It was so much fun, It snowed the day we left but had it snowed the day before, we certainly would have built a snowman in the yard! The house was very clean and well-stocked. Cathy was a very gracious host and we hope to return again next year! Thank you Cathy! We rented this house for a week to spend Christmas with my family who live in town. It truly felt like a home away from home and Cathy was a pleasure to communicate with. The owners thought of everything and there were many extra amenities which meant there was less for us to lug onto the airplane. They even left sleds in the garage for our kids and a tip on where to go in the neighborhood....the 9th hole is THE place to sled! This is a very family friendly home and we enjoyed feeding the birds and watching the deer come right up to the front door every morning! What a wonderful vacation!!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children.

We are so glad that we opted for this vacation rental instead of hotel accommodation. This mansion-like house in the perfect place that we wanted for our group of 7. The beautiful & neat house has all the furnishing that you would expect in a vacation rental, plus more. The owner was very kind & co-operative and ensured that we had all the information that we might require before we went there. We had a great time staying there, and would strongly recommend this to folks planning for a trip to Klamath Falls/Crater Lake. Thank you for letting us spend 10 days again at your Magical House. This was our 3rd visit here, and it welcomes us as soon as we step through the door. We appreciate all the extras you provide for your guests, and this is the best stocked house we have rented through VRBO. We enjoyed all the comforts of home here, and the huge deck is so comfortable and fun to use for barbecuing and visiting with friends, and did i say, Wow, look at the view? Birds and a squirrel entertained us from the feeders daily, and deer just stood on the property looking at us. Also thank you for all the attention you have put into creating this vacation get away for so many to share. Hope to be back again next September. Absolutely perfect for my large family attending my son's wedding. We used all 3 levels that easily slept 8 of us. The loft was perfect for my grandsons to sleep while hosting several large noisy barbeque / dinners for a dozen adult guests downstairs. The lower level was perfect for the newlyweds. We had almost everything we needed for preparing large meals and entertaining. It really felt like home. Far better value for us than a hotel. In fact, we simply could not have done this in a hotel. Everything was comfortable, clean and tidy. Owner could not have been more helpful. For example, one set of blinds did not work and they were replaced within an hour after making a phone call. I would highly recommend this property to anyone vacationing in Klamath Falls that desires the room and flexibility that a beautiful home provides.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

Great vacation rental for a family with children. The kids loved the loft area and also watching the different types of birds that ate at the porch feeders. The view was beautiful and we all enjoyed the amenities at the club house. It was our first trip to US and out of the 9 places we stayed, this house was the best. We specially enjoyed sitting on the balcony and watch the birds and the mammals arround the house. This was a wonderful, comfortable, well-stocked home. We loved the birds - so many colors and even Bald Eagles soaring outside the windows - the deer, the squirrels, owls, etc. The kids loved the games and books and exploring in the yard. The house was in a good location and the amenities at the Running Y were very fun! We would definitely stay here again.Recommended for: Families with young children.

The Running Y is a beuatiful area and this house had everything we needed for a great stay. We loved feeding the birds and seeing the variety. Very thoughtful hosts that provided so many extras. Lower Klamath Basin Wildlife Refuge View on map
Lower Klamath NWR, established by President Theodore Roosevelt in 1908, was the first waterfowl refuge in the United States. It has a total area of 50,912 acres, of which 44,294 acres are in California and 6,618 acres are in Oregon. The refuge includes shallow freshwater marshes, open water, grassy uplands, and croplands that are intensively managed to provide feeding, resting, nesting, and brood rearing habitat for waterfowl and other water birds. A marked 10-mile auto tour allows visitors year round access for wildlife viewing. The Refuge also has a number of blinds for wildlife photographers.

About the owner: We chose to build our home and live at the Running Y Ranch 14 years ago. It is the most beautiful mountain resort with golf course, abundant wildlife and some of the finest people we've ever met. We built this home to raise our family and plan to return when we retire. Right now we have been called away to another location, but look forward to returning as soon as we can! In the meantime, you can enjoy this very special place at our home!
Why the Owner Chose Klamath Falls:
Our favorite part of the Running Y is the amazing wildlife. This ranch was owned by the Disney family as a get-a-way before it was sold to become a resort ranch. The wildlife that has lived on this ranch undisturbed for 100's of years includes deer, coyote, golden and bald eagles as well as owls, woodpeckers, geese and even a wandering cougar. Guests are asked to respect the wildlife as deer and birds will often be within feet and are accustomed to their freedom.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
This property has access to all the wilderness surroundings of the Cascade mountain range. The Pacific Crest Trail travels close to this location. Crater Lake, considered one of the natural wonders of America, is a little more than an hour away. In the winter, I have cross country skied from this house, down the ridge for a full morning or afternoon of skiing and return to the house. There is also a wonderful hill (hole #9) for sledding when snow is deep enough!
