New Year's Day 2009. We woke up to a winter wonderland & 3 feet of snow!
Location: Arnold, Gold Country & High Sierra, California, USA (10 miles above Arnold in Camp Connell) View Map
Accommodations: House, 3 Bedrooms + Loft, 2 Baths (Sleeps 8-10)
It is not unusual to have 3-6 feet or more of snow at our cabin. From our beautiful Sierra Chalet, enjoy skiing or snowshoeing into the forest beyond. Relax drinking your coffee on our deck while watching the kids play on our snow hill. Our cabin is always toasty warm, even in a Sierra blizzard. Everything is ready for your stay from the comfy beds to the plowed level driveway that makes unloading everyone a breeze!
Click on our Cabin at Big Trees Village website below for a more complete description & additional photos, as well as more information about the activites in the Bear Valley/Arnold area.
Three bedrooms, 2 baths with loft, the cabin is newly painted with gleaming hardwood floors and new carpeting. Upstairs are two bedrooms (the children's room & master bedroom), a bath and the loft. Downstairs is a second master. The master bedrooms have queen beds with locally made pine log beds. The children's room has one twin & a bunk bed. A port-a-crib is provided for our youngest guests. There is one bathroom upstairs and one downstairs.
The dining room table is large and seats 10 for dinner. The lovely loft has a queen sleeper, along with a spectacular view of the forest., the perfect spot to read or play games.
The cabin is beautifully decorated with charming handmade quilts adorning the walls. Our deck, the perfect spot to enjoy your morning coffee, looks over miles of forest. The cabin is just perfect for the retreat or family gathering you’ve always dreamed of!
From the house, you can hike, snowshoe or cross country ski down the hill to a trail that goes for miles. Rarely do we see another person, but animal tracks are abundant. Our level driveway, plowed in winter, makes parking boats & trailers a breeze.
Activities abound in the Arnold area. Winter activities include downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, and sledding. Playing or fly fishing in the Stanislaus River, kayaking at Lake Alpine, hiking the Pacific Crest Trail are all minutes away from our beautiful cabin. Visiting the spectacular Giant Sequoias at Calaveras Big Trees is an adventure for the kids & adults. Wine tasting or caving in nearby Murphy’s is fun, as well.
Located in Camp Connell, near Arnold, at 5500 ft. elevation, our lovely chalet has a view of miles of forest. Cross country skiing or hiking in the famous high country of the Sierra Nevada Mountain range is a short 20 minute drive. It is not unusual to see fox, coyote, rabbits, raccoons, chipmunks, squirrels, bear, and many species of birds from the house. Very little light pollution allows for spectacular star gazing while listening for the serenade of the local coyote family.

Beautiful Sierra Chalet! Book Now for Winter Ski Season!
Year Purchased: 2003
Why the Owner Chose Arnold
We fell in love with the Sierra Nevada Mountains backpacking as students. It took us years to find a perfect house in the perfect area - and this is it! Quiet and peaceful, a short drive from the Bay Area without the traffic problems and hustle-bustle of Lake Tahoe or Sonora.
The Unique Benefits at this House
Year round recreation, swimming, fishing, skiing, kayaking, hiking, mountain biking, all from a beautiful home base. The Stanislaus River is very near by (see map) where we spend many afternoons cooling off picnicing, swimming & rafting.. In winter we crosscountry ski, snowshoe, and sled right at the house. There is a trail just below us for easy forest access. It is not unusual for us to have 3-5 feet of snow at the house so the winter sports are just as fabulous as the summer activities!
Beautiful lap & wading pools in stunning forest setting. Free swim lessons, life guards at all times, organized water games (great water polo games!), reasonably priced snack bar. Other amenities: b
Approximate location of Stanislaus River access point. National Forest Campground is location of sacred site where local Miwoks hold ceremonies. Native craft classes held occasionally in summer.
Trail into forest - great for snowshoeing, hiking & cross-country skiing. Rarely are others seen on the trail.
Owner's Map of Arnold
A Sunday afternoon birthday celebration kayaking at lovely Utica Reservoir. Bald eagles and osprey soared overhead as our dog swam nearby the kayak. Eagles are commonly seen at Utica & Union Reservoirs. Osprey are frequent visitors to the Stanislaus & high mountain lakes.

Two families stayed at your lovely cabin over Easter weekend. We loved your cozy home, comfy beds & great games & videos for the kids. Took our kids (2 & 5 years) to Bear Valley to go tubing for the day. It was snowing at the top of the hill - lots of powder! We made an Easter dinner back at the cabin and even the Easter Bunny paid us a visit - hiding eggs all over the inside. Everyone had a wonderful time. We hope to return in the summer so that we can take advantage of the activities at the nearby lakes - fishing, swimming, etc. No wild animal sightings this visit - maybe next time! Thank you for a beautiful weekend stay.

We stayed at your cabin last summer. We were a large family and had PLENTY of room to accommodate all of us. We especially enjoyed days and evenings out on the deck while the kids played games and watched TV inside. We look forward to coming back!

We were so surprised at such a wonderful cabin. We were here looking for a lot to buy and put in an offer. Next time we will bring our friends. They would love it as much as we did. What a delightful place! Not only was the cabin spotless and charming, but the deck was the perfect spot for our snowman family. Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful place. it was a great weekend.

First of all, I was quite impressed with your furnishings - quite superior for a rental! The quilts are gorgeous. For a group of quilters, we were in heaven. Thank you for the well equipped kitchen.

We had a lovely time here. It was very hot, over 100 degrees every day. So, we went to Lake Alpine to cool off & there was still snow on the ground! We were hit with several hail showers. The kids played in the lake & we watched people kayaking & swimming. Lots of families were having picnics. On Saturday night we traveled to Murphys to the Ironstone Winery for the Steve Miller Band concert. It was the first show of their summer tour. It was a wonderful show under the stars. Thank you for the great time. We loved your home.

What a lovely area this is to use as a base. The cabin is so attractively and comfortably furnished. It was a pleasure to sit quietly and enjoy the peaceful scenery (& the noisy woodpeckers!). We hiked both the higher & lower Sierras. The South Grove trail (in Calaveras Big Trees State Park) is an extraordinary experience and the views from Wheeler Ridge are breathtaking. Other trails were fun, too. We must have had the best weather of the season! Great vacation!
