Our island is located 15 minutes from Damariscotta on th Pemaquid Peninsula. It is near a marsh area on 7 mile long Pemaquid Lake. The island is a short row from our mainland landing; an ability to row is a must! This is a private island in a pristine location. The island is surrounded by shrubs which give a lot of privacy; pines, maples, and oaks provide filtered sunlight. Breezes off the lake make for lovely coolness on hot summer days. Loons and ospreys frequent our cove and bald eagles can occasionally be seen.
A copper cable brings power to the island while a state of the art septic system provides plumbing.
Our cabin(24'x32") which was built in 1966 is the only building on our island. It has a screened in porch, living room, kitchen, 2 bedrooms, a bathroom, and a loft. From the porch you can look out on our "private cove" and float as well as the wide, island studded bay and up to 2 miles down the lake. Sunset views from the porch are breathtaking. The living room has a cathedral ceiling, fieldstone fireplace, a window seat, and views of the sunrise. The TV which is located in the living room has poor reception, but we have a DVD player and plenty of books. The kitchen comes with plenty of cookware, dishes, utensils, a refrigerator, an electric stove, and a microwave. The 2 bedrooms have 2 twin beds each and plenty of drawers. The bathroom though simple has a new fiberglass shower. The loft has a queen sized bed as well as plenty of childrens' toys pushed off to one side. Bedspreads and curtains are in contrast to the rustic feel of the log walls.
We ask that guests bring linens and towels; we provide blankets and pillows. Pets will be considered on an individual basis.
Our mainland parking is 15 minutes from Damariscotta, 75 minutes from Portland, 40 minutes from Boothbay Harbor, and 45 minutes from Camden. Damariscotta has 2 good grocery stores, restaurants, a movie theatre, shops, kayak rentals, a great library, and a cultural center called the Round Top Center. Our island is located at the beginning of the Pemaquid Peninsula which is rich in history, scenic beauty, concerts, and special summer events. Special places to visit include: the mainland trail for the Maine Audubon Camp Hog Island; Round Pond which has great lobster pounds and dining, a "penny candy" store, and weekly concerts at the Little Brown Church; New Harbor with deck top seafood dining and boat trips; Pemaquid Beach State Park; Pemaquid Harbor with its historic digs and fort as well as dining; and Pemaquid Point with its fabulous lighthouse.
