We stayed in "Mountain Retreat" for the second time in two years. We like to go day hiking on the near by Appalachian trail. There is plenty to do in Robbinsville, Fontana Dam and the Natahala areas. We take lots of photos of the wild spring flowers . We plan to come back again to Mountain Retreat. Roy and Debbie are great also.Recommended for: Age 55+, adventure seekers.

Just spent a week in cabin. What a wonderful experience. Didn't have cell phone coverage but cabin has phone. Outside firepit and inside fireplace got workout! Owner was nearby and very helpful. Could not have asked for more. Kitchen had everything necessary and only 12 minutes from Robbinsville, Fontana. Will be back in fall!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, pet owners.

This is a home away from home. The photos accurately reflect the beauty and tasteful decorations of the house, but I have to mention that not one detail has been forgotten. Not only are all the basic necessities provided (we are avid cooks and found every piece of cookware needed for any meal we could create - even a crockpot), but there is a cabinet of board games and cards, books on local wildflowers, CD and DVD collection, local maps, a notebook of menus from local restaurants and various local sites to see, a croquet set and horseshoes. The local grocery store discount card is even provided on the keychain. When we arrived, the house had been heated for our comfort and a stack of firewood was ready for our use. Everything was clean and well-maintained. Roy was available for any item that might need repair, directions, or advice about local destinations. We were thankful for the washer and dryer, too. This location is in close proximity to many, many outdoor destinations, hiking trails and scenic drives, but the best part was coming "home" each day to relax on the back porch swing, then build a cozy fire. I would highly recommend this vacation home and will return myself. Thank you Debbie and Roy for sharing your home with us!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

Hello fellow travelers! The title to this review is really enough but I will attempt to bore you a bit more. First, after staying at other cabins in the area and others I have to say that this is the best decorated cabin I've stayed in. Some places go absolutely nuts with stuffed animals, hanging birch-bark canoes and so forth but this cabin is tastefully decorated and, simply elegant. Feels like someones home instead of a rental except for the the first class appliances in the kitchen. The coffee maker is far better than the one I have at home and I thought it was a good one! Unlike some cabins, this place has an ample supply of firewood laid in along with kindling material and boasts separate zoned air conditioners. Almost unheard of! The well water is sweet and pure, parking ample for up to, I would estimate, 4 cars. This is a great 'get-away' vacation spot, especially if you like hiking and animal watching in the woods!!! One word of warning however to motorcyclists. If you have a big old cruiser it might be really tough for you to get up the road. It is a typically steep NC gravel drive that Roy and Debbie obviously spend a lot of time and money to properly maintain but it is still a gravel road and proper care, planning and riding skills must be used. It ain't a walk in the park, especially in low light. I could go on and on about how good the beds are, the dishes, the appliances (yup, mentioned them twice--they were that impressive) the absolutely first class cleanliness, the wildlife at your door and so on but I won't. I could go on and on about the exterior and the woods, but won't. Suffice it to say, this place is great! One thing that must be said, however, is that Roy and Debbie are the most gracious hosts of a rental cabin I have ever even heard of. Roy was there and in chatting he pointed out the different restaurants and was spot on calling Carolina Kitchen the best for dinner. The secret to both the restaurant and the way Roy and Debbie run the cabin is simple, plain, old fashioned, southern hospitality and charm. There was a small issue with the cabin and Roy didn't rest until he knew it was satisfactory. Just plain good people as far as I am concerned!!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with young children.

Stayed at Ridge Haven and thoroughly enjoyed the week. Debbie & Roy were gracious and helpful with info regarding the area. Great location for riding "The Dragon" and Cherohala Loop. The cabin is nicely decorated, clean and very comfortable. Wish it would have been cool enough to use the fireplace. It's located in a quiet, heavily wooded area with lots of privacy. If you're on a motorcycle be aware that the gravel loop road to the cabin is steep and requires more than novice riding skills. Not a problem for my V-Strom but any gravel road requires care. Will be coming back. ThanksRecommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

Our visit to the Ridge Haven was a very pleasant and enjoyable experience chiefly due to the warm, comfortable, and personable accommodations that are included with the cabin. The location was perfect for visiting so many scenic and interesting areas, while providing the quiet and relaxing environment for a wonderful get away rest. The extra concern/attention show by Roy and Debbie for the comfort and enjoyment of the guest insured our stay was without defect or flaw and meeting our supreme standards of excellence.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

This cabin is more like a home, just like in the pictures no small detail is missed. Rooms are large and comfortable.Since we are from FL we especially enjoyed the temperatures. Highest was 82 and lows near 60. Loved the deck and especially the swing where I stole more than one nap.Especially enjoyed dinner at the Thirteen Moons and the rafting on the Nantahala.Would definitely recommend it to friends and hope to return soon.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, romantic getaway, pet owners.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2004
About the owner: I have fond memories growing up in Maine where we had a cottage on a lake. We had a lot of family holidays at that cottage. And then my family moved to Florida. My girlfriend's family had a cabin in Highlands, NC, so when my husband and I needed a vacation, that's where we rented, and after that we were both hooked on North Carolina. After going a few more times, we started looking for our own cabin. My husband was in the construction business and can fix just about anything. I went to Florida State University and majored in Housing & Interior Design, so we make a good team when it comes to providing a well-maintained and decorated cabin.
Why the Owner Chose Robbinsville:
We bought our second cabin that was originally called 'The Chalet' from an auction that my husband saw in our local newspaper. After purchasing it, we have vacationed there for over 15 years to get out of the Florida heat. We loved the beautiful weather and mountain views so much that when the Mountain Retreat became available we decided to purchase it for additional family gatherings. And then a few years later, the Ridge Haven became available. Everybody we knew or worked with wanted to rent the cabins, so that's how we got started. We love this County with it's country roads and laid back feeling. It is so peaceful and quiet here. Maybe an owl at night and sighting of hummingbirds during the day. It's a great place to visit.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
We love taking a walk aroung Arthur's Circle and up the hiking trail with our pets. Sometimes we're lucky to find blackberries and no bears. The weather is just like being in air-conditioning in the summer and it's so brisk in the spring and fall. The foliage is beautiful any time of the year, even after the leaves have fallen. And the locals are so friendly, always waving as they pass by.
