Villa Isla Negra can be your beach escape in the Gulf of Mexico for a getaway from it all vacation – with all the comforts you need!
Our white villa, in the authentic Yucatan fishing village of Telchac Puerto, is designed by an architect to maximize the views of a glittering blue ocean, and allow sea breezes to circulate. The house and its furnishings are designed with your comfort in mind; en suite Mexican tile finished bathrooms, outdoor barbecue, eating and relaxing areas, comfortable lounge with TV and Blu-ray and library, fully equipped kitchen and dining room.
The villa has two bedrooms and can accommodate 4-6 people. Each bedroom has an en suite bathroom and balcony; the master bedroom terrace has a spectacular ocean view – you can sometimes see rays and dolphins swimming; you will often see flamingos in summer. Downstairs, an open plan dining area and lounge look out onto an outdoor covered terrace, adjacent to our charcoal barbecue, where you can grill with an ocean view. The fully equipped kitchen and patio utilities area are towards the back of the house. When you have had enough of the beach and pool, you can retreat to our cozy lounge with sofa and watch Canadian satellite TV or a Blu-ray/DVD from our library of mainly English language movies, or browse the internet on our high-speed connection.
A long white sandy beach, that is almost deserted for most of the year, is just steps down from our terrace. You can walk for miles collecting sea shells and watching pelicans dive for fish. You will meet a handful of fishermen and one or two foreigners – otherwise, you will usually have the beach to yourself.
Telchac Puerto is located in one of the most secure provinces in Mexico, where crime rates are lower than in most North American states and provinces.
Telchac is a place where you will find basic conveniences and services, but where the traditional Yucatecan values of courtesy, honesty and hospitality are still very much in evidence.
Yet the busier port town of Progreso, with its shops, arts & crafts markets, several restaurants, bars, supermarkets and American hospital, is just a 20 minute drive. The white colonial city of Merida, with its nightly outdoor folkloric dance presentations, broad range of restaurants and shopping, including Costco, Sam’s Club and Walmart, is 45 minutes from Telchac on well maintained roads.

My 11 year old daughter and I had a wonderful time at Villa Isla Negra during my two week visit last July. We cannot wait to go back again this coming July, if available. From the time I inquired about it everything went smooth and the process was simple. This beautifully decorated Villa has all you need to relax and enjoy without worries. They have local personnel, Yvonne, helping maintain the house clean and eager to answer questions and help anyway she can. The area of Telchac is safe, beautiful and the people are welcoming. We visited many places in the Yucatan area full of history and culture. Due to issues in Canada, we had no satellite TV for a few days, however, we were offered to rent movies in addition to the tons of movies already at the villa which was very nice, plus it let us enjoy the beauty outside and the surrounding area with an 11 year old girl. We found the place clean and well kept. If I try to be picky, LOL, I would have liked WIFI to be available throughout the villa. All in all it is a place I absolutely recommend to anyone. Photos were accurate and reflected what you can find at the rental. The town offers restaurants, stores and a promise to forget everyday life for a while. Thank you, Mary and Yvonne.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.

We just returned from a wondeful week at the Villa. The owner answered my never ending barrage of questions prior to booking and after. The property manager was responsive and the pool maintenance man was attentive. We felt well cared for during our stay. The home offered everything we needed and then some - including chilled wine and beer the day we arrived. The home was quiet and yet close to everything in the village of Telchac. The listing was accurate and the photos were a good representation. The property was clean and I would definitely recommend it to friends and family. Thanks again for a wonderful visit!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.

Our stay at Isla Negra was very enjoyable. The house has everything you need for either a short or long period of time.It is very clean with the beach at your doorstep, also a well maintained pool. you have the beach pretty much to yourself for long walks. There are restaurants and convenience stores within walking distance. The people in Telchac Puerto are friendly and helpful and it's very safe.We recommend this place to people looking for a quiet relaxing environment.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

October was my second stay at villa negra this year. As was the case for my first stay in february, everything was perfect. Great house in an exceptional setting and everything I needed to enjoy the tranquility of this little fishing village. Beautiful pool, fully loaded kitchen, satellite tv and the internet makes being off the beaten path a luxurious experience. Claude and Mary were easy to deal with and provided me with more information than I expected. Thank you to Yvonne, who on site was always available and was able to answer all my questions and direct me to all the beatifull sites. I will be back!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.

We stayed at this propery from Dec 13 to Jan 2, 2011. While the house was quite nice we encountered a few problems. Before booking the house while looking at the photos I made a mistake and assumed it was one house. It turns out that it is actually two properties with a common wall. A few days after sending the deposit and 1/3 of the rent I realized my mistake so I sent a note to the owner to confirm that it wasn't a stand alone house and mentioned my concern about noise and privacy from an adjoining property - a reasonable concern in my mind. She got quite angry about my "complaining" and threatened to cancel my reservation but keep the deposit and prepayment. When we arrived at the house we found dirty dishes in the kitchen, the WIFI only worked while in the dining room (the router is actually in the house next door and has to go through two concrete walls) and was so slow it was sometimes impossible to use, water pressure so low in the master bath that we couldn't use it, and the pool wasn't quite as well maintained as it should be. There were a few other small problems so I sent a note to the owner and again got an angry response back about "complaining", having expectations that were too high and a suggestion that I would be happier in Cancun in a 5 star resort. Considering that the lead line in the description for this property says "pool and WIFI" I thought it was a reasonable expectation that those things at least should be working properly and in everyone's world dirty dishes are a problem worthy of an apology at least. I asked for a discount and she did grudgingly give me a small one. I would not stay here again or recommend it to others mainly due to the difficulty of dealing with the owner. She doesn't seem to understand the meaning of customer service even when she admits that these things are indeed wrong it is somehow your fault for "complaining" about it. I should mention that we have travelled all over the world (6 trips to Mexico alone, none in a resort, one on motorcycles and two in a camperized van) and stayed in many different types of accommodation from a guest house in Cambodia to a tiny village house in Indonesia and are very seasoned travellers. It is all about expectations - if you say your house has WIFI and I am paying for it then I expect it to work - very simple. If I have a concern or "complaint" then I expect it to be dealt with in a professional and polite manner - again, very simple.Owner response: We are sorry that RG was disappointed. However, some of the facts presented in her review are not quite accurate. Our house is a semi-detached house next to an identical one, and this is made very clear on all the information we send out to potential clients, including a Youtube video which clearly shows the inside and outside of the house. More than a month after we confirmed RG's booking, and after we had turned away potential other renters for the high season period, she wrote us a rude and angry email, complaining that the house next door was too close. She complained that we had misrepresented our property, and said that the place would be too noisy for her group and that the rental would not work for her. One of the issues raised in this review is internet. The internet connection is a Mexican phone line connection that is shared with the house next door. It is the best available in Telchac but definitely not as fast as in North America. The wi fi connection is available on our ground floor, but not throughout the house. The internet has never been an issue for any other renter. A day trader recently stayed there and traded as normal. I also often work from the villa, carrying out skype teleconferences to Canada and US. The internet connection did not stop this renter from sending us and our property manager several emails a day - and the messages were anything but pleasant and polite in tone. Water pressure was another issue. Unfortunately, we had fitted the wrong shower head in one bathroom, but we resolved this within 24 hours of being notified. We were puzzled about the dirty dishes complaint, as the house was empty for a month before the arrival of this group. Our property manager checked and found that two cups had coffee stains in them and one saucepan had a stain on it. Ivonne apologized for this oversight and offered to rewash all the dishes, but this was refused. As for the pool, RG still left a tip for the pool maintenance man, even if she was unsatisfied with services. We are always very concerned that guests, particularly at Christmas time, should feel welcome and comfortable in our house. We and our local staff did try very hard to make this stay pleasant for RG and her family. We are sorry that we did not succeed.

Hello Mary, We had a great time at your villa. The only thing we were not happy about is that we could not find a thinpeeler, That is why we left one. Just joking. Really it was wonderful and exact as promised by the pictures. Just those picture perfect sunsets every day was getting boring. Thanks again for the service and we will gladly tell everybody about your great house.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/3

From the moment my sister and I stepped up to your beautiful villa on our first day, we knew we were in Paradise! Your house was beautifully built, immaculate and furnished with all the decor and amenities that make a vacationer instantly feel at home. We said to each other many times, "I could live here!" The kitchen was really nice and comfortable to cook in, equipped with everything from corkscrews to cutting boards to beautiful dishes. The bedrooms were serene, and the beds completely comfortable! In general, you seemed to have had every detail of comfort and luxury in mind for your visitors! The outside was just as much of a treat--the sparkling pool and comfortable patio, with the sand and ocean just beyond the back gate! We spent a good part of the time birdwatching and collecting shells along the beach, or just relaxing around the pool. One of the locals sold us coconuts from his yard so we had a fresh supply of coconut water and delicious meat of the coconut most mornings. We walked around town and all the merchants we talked to seemed very gentle and helpful. We did a couple of excursions--the mangrove tour in nearby San Crisanto, which had a crystal-clear cenote (sinkhole) that we were able to swim in. Also we visited the nearby Mayan ruins in Xcambo and another boat tour in nearby lagoons for more birdwatching. It was always such a treat to come back to Villa Isla Negra after an outing. It is such a quiet, peaceful place and we hated to leave! Thank you so much, Mary, Gary and Ivonne, for making our vacation the very best we ever had!Did you find this review helpful? I just wanted to thank you for making your beautiful home in Telchac Puerto available to us. We just got back to Cancún and my friends and I , and Max had an absolutely fantastic time, due in large part to your incredible property. You're home is incredibly warm and welcoming, the best we've rented in several years of renting through VRBO. We've always had great experiences but this surpassed them all. We spent quite a bit of time in the pool, in the sea and looking out over the sea from your upper patio. It was a very pleasant surprise to see all the flamingos flying back and forth. In fact for the first few days we didn't even leave the villa, except to run to the store. As I promised we took great care of your home. It must take a great leap of faith to allow strangers to enjoy your special place in paradise, so I appreciate that. The villa was absolutely beautiful and clean when we got there, your manager seems to do a great job, she was attentive and easy to work with. Sorry this mail is so long, I just wanted to thank you again for allowing us to stay in your home, I'm sure you can't wait to get down to enjoy it. Hopefully, we'll be able to stay there again soon. thanks again, StevenDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/3
