Year Purchased: 2007
My parents purchased this house to be close (occasionally) to me and my husband, who is attending Notre Dame. They went a bit crazy, in a good way, sparing no cost as they fixed up the house not only for themselves, but to share with others for football weekends and special events. All the furniture in the house was purchased in the Spring of 2007, and true to my parents' style, they purchased the highest quality of everything, thinking that it would be great fun for people to use the house and for themselves to enjoy on those few weeks a year that they get to visit South Bend.
Why the Owner Chose South Bend
Irish Hearth is a two story home with a finished attic and finished basement. The house built in 1935 and retains much of it's original charm. The main floor contains the living room, dining room, kitchen, a one-half bath and office/study. The second story has three bedrooms and each have a high quality queen bed. There are two bathrooms on the second floor, one full bath with a steam shower and the second bath is a three-quarter bath with shower only. The finished attic is furnished with two twin beds and the finished basement has a double futon and a one-half bath. In addition, there are air mattresses available so that a wide variety of sleeping arrangements can be accommodated.

The Irish Hearth Manor was even better than described on- line. It is a wonderful, clean, thoughtfully stocked and immaculately maintained home. It is very conveniently located near campus, Martins, Walgreens, etc. It served beautifully as our home base as we hosted a large engagement for our son (ND grad) and his fiancee (Saint Mary's grad) at the Irish Courtyard of the Morris Inn. We're anxious to find another opportunity to rent this lovely home again and highly recommend it to others.

We had family coming from all over to attend my daughter's wedding. 18 of us stayed at the house and many additional family members joined us at various times during the weekend. Pros: The house easily accommodated 18 of us as there are 3 large bedrooms, a fouton in the rec room and lots of floor space with sleeping mats and bags in the loft bedroom. Also available are air mattresses to place in a variety of places in the home. Modern kitchen and bathrooms. Good access to landlord. Con: Only 2 full bathrooms and 2 half baths, not 4 full baths as advertised. We had to run a strict schedule for showers/baths.
Recommended for:Families with teenagers, families with young children.

We were fortunate enough to fund and rent this fabulous home for a week in July 2010. We had 14 people stay & it was PERFECT! Roomy with plenty of "get away" space. If I could have wrapped up the kitchen and kept it I would've, it was fantastic! We were efficiently able to cook for and feed everyone every night without any hassle. As a whole, the house was clean, well maintained, and fully stocked with enough gear we could have slept 30. The owners daughter was who met us on arrival and she is absolutely delightful. Very warm and friendly, just a true pleasure to deal with. Our group returns to South Bend every year in July... As long as this home is available as a vacation rental, this is where you'll find us :-)

I recently rented the home for the Blue Gold football spring game weekend. The home was very clean upon arrival and had plenty of sheets/towels. It is filled with thoughtful touches for renters (games to play, extra blankets, full kitchen). Locations is wonderful as it is near campus and local restaurants and shops. I'd highly recommend this home over others in the area. It rained most of the weekend, but there was plenty of space to host everyone in the house and the basement bar area was a big hit.

Our crew has been renting this spectacular home for the first Notre Dame home football game for the past three years and let me tell you, it has been a wonderfull experience every year! I say home because you truly feel as if you are at your own home. From the kitchen to the bathroom, everything that you need is at your fingertips. Plenty of beds, blankets, pillows and towels are provided. Two big flat screen tv's, a bar, a beautiful pool table, wireless internet access are just a few of the amenities that are provided. The location is within walking distance to the Notre Dame campus,The Linebacker, shopping, The Linebacker, resturants and did I mention The Linebacker?!! The owners are a joy to work with and they try to provide everything that you might need. We TRUELY ENJOY our stay at the Irish Hearth Manor and would strongly recommend this HOME to anyone looking to stay in the South Bend area. GO IRISH!!

Wonderful Notre Dame Graduation Weekend

We rented Irish Hearth Manor for our daughter's graduation from Notre Dame in May! What a wonderful weekend! We were able to comfortably accomodate even our extended family in this immaculate 4 bedroom home. (great mattresses and linens). A comfortably furnished living room, and game room allowed all of us to enjoy one another's company as we celebrated her graduation. The house is only ten minutes from campus and so we were able to go back and forth to campus very simply. We had a wonderful barbeque one evening for friends and their families in the spacious backyard. The kitchen, which is very well equipped, and the dining room with seating for ten, allowed us all to dine in together. Nearby are Martins Grocery ( good bakery and great produce) and pharmacies for last minute things. The home has a two car garage and a large driveway for ample parking. All of our guests were very comfortable and wanted to know where I found such a great house! Kathryn and Eli were very accomodating and a wonderful young couple to work.with. This is truly an exceptional property and I am so happy that we were able to celebrate such a special weekend here! One suggestion...I booked this property early. Enjoy!

once again a fantastic weekend! there were 12 of us and we had plenty of room to enjoy ourselves. the location near the campus is ideal, close to food, grocery, bars, etc. the home is meticulously maintained and no expense was spared in making the home ideal for any event. i would highly recommend anyone visiting south bend to rent this home, the rates for a large group are very reasonable and you can cook in the gorgeous kitchen instead of going out. the only recommendation i would have would be to replace the double bed in at least one of the bedrooms so a large group of large men don't have to double up. then again after a number of beers i guess it doesnt really matter where you sleep!! thanks again for a great week!!
