Great Location, Laid-Back Atmosphere

Guest: Andrea P. (Austin, Texas)
Date of Stay: 12/09/11 Review Submitted: 12/15/11

I have nothing but good things to say about this vacation rental. It is managed by the same people who run the Earthmatters Cafe underneath it, which is uniquely convenient since you can always find someone to ask if you need extra supplies, have questions about the apartment, etc. The owners are very very nice and helpful, and the food at the cafe is delicious too. The apartment itself was clean and neat and looked exactly as it does in the photos. The two radiators were nice and warm and the apartment was quiet despite being in a very busy nightlife area. There are plenty of places to eat and drink within walking distance of the apartment, and the F-train is just a couple of blocks away. Highly recommend this place!

Enjoyable place for a downtown stay

Guest: Riton69 (Lyon, France)
Date of Stay: 12/01/11 Review Submitted: 12/16/11

The apartment is very well situated, a few blocks from the Houston/Broadway intersection and is quiet, well equipped. Though, there is no real nice view outside. Many small restaurants and bars in the Ludlow Street and adjacent streets, a well animated area in the evening, with apparently more local people and less tourists. Walking distance to Little Italy and Chinatown. The EarthMatters Cafe is very convenient for light lunches and diners with friendly personnel, and Mosh, the property owner is friendly too!

We arrived for a girls getaway and had the time of our lives! Perfect location for adventure….. cool part of town! Great bars, pubs and restaurants at the doorstep. Thankyou Mosh & staff from Earth matters below for your hospitality and delicious food ! Would recommend to anyone wanting an adventure in Manhattan. The people of NYC couldn’t be more friendlier to a few travelling Aussies, can’t wait to come back!

Great Launch Pad

What a great place! Very comfortable and clean. Felt like home! My wife and I, our 5 year old son, and black lab just returned from a long weekend in the LES. Mosh was fantastic, and all in the cafe where super, very friendly. This great apartment is 2 blocks from the subway so it is convienient to go anywhere in the city. There is a municipal parking garage 2 blocks down that is very reasonable. Don't miss the Creperie right down the street. Great neighborhood, great apartment .. . . can't wait to go back!

Perfect place in NYC

Guest: Zock (Zagreb, Croatia)
Date of Stay: 08/16/10 Review Submitted: 10/15/10

Four of us stayed there for 12 days, second half of August 2010. Apartment was clean and our host - Moshe was very helpful. Since there were 4 of us, two of us slept on the sofa in the living room and it was was very comfy sleeping indeed. We forgot some things in the apartment and Mosh already found them and sent it to us when we contacted him. Neighbourhood is the best ever. there is an indie movie theatre 2 minutes from the apartment. Very cool guitar store with lots of boutique gear (three of us are musicians so this was a big bonus). Cool concert venue - Mercury Lounge just accross the street and Pianos (you should definitely go there on friday, midnight, because you can see Wolff playing there with their crazy tuba-electronica). Also there is Spitzer's Corner - a bar with really wide variety of beer...Everything within few steps from the apartment. This was probably the best accomodation I had in any city - and I tend to travel a lot...

Very Pleasant Stay!!

I would highly recommend this spot. Great location and I loved being above Earth Matters cafe and having all of the juice, smoothies, egg sandwiches, vitamins, coffee etc... that I could possibly want every morning right downstairs. You have access to the cafe patio after hours which was quite nice. Everybody that we delt with made our stay enjoyable and the transaction through paypal was very simple and straightforward. There is much to see and do within walking distance. I would stay here again! Thank you!!

Excellent Accomodations for NYC

My daughter and I were visiting my older daughter who lives in NYC and I researched hotels and apartments. This was perfect and roomy with the comforts of home. I was so pleased. The 3 of us stayed here, the beds were very comfortable and the den area was plenty big enough for 3 other friends to visit and play games. Also, It was quiet at night so we slept very well. It was nice having Earthmatters right below us as well. Will definitely stay here again! Thank you Isaac and Mosh.

Real NYC Experience

Guest: Janet&Val (Thurlaston, England)
Date of Stay: 05/29/10 Review Submitted: 06/28/10

My brother, myself and my 2 children stayed in this apartment in early June. It is exactly as featured and the area is fantastic and vibrant. Marco, Mosh and Alex who all work in the shop and basically take care of this apartment are great and friendly hosts. Only mistake we made was to wake up very early on the first night of our stay (jet-lagged !!) and were very noisy on the patio at about 4am, little did we realise behind the adjourning window was another bedroom with people trying to sleep (sorry Marco, we didn't know !!) although I think we were forgiven !! Lower East Side has an exciting if somewhat 'edgy' feel to it, but all the people we came into contact with were amazingly friendly and helpful. There is a little shop around the corner near to Katz which sells newspapers, drinks cigarettes etc., which my son went into alone one morning and didn't have enough dollars for what he wanted to buy. The guy behind the counter replied 'Don't worry, I know your Mum, she can pay me the rest when she comes in next time' !! Also, my brother left a bag at 2 different restaurant/bars (one was the Sixth Ward on the next street past Katz - this is an excellent place where you can sit outside in a well cool yard and is great value for money and the food is delicious) the bag contained a HD camera and brand new clothes bought that day and when we went back to ask if anyone had it, on both occassions it had been handed in to the staff and we got it back safely. (I think my brother was tired that day, or maybe had drank a little too much Elijah Craig !!) I can honestly say that I felt safer in the area than many areas in England .... Great value for money and plenty of room for the 4 of us. We all loved New York and hope to return again asap. Thank-you to all those New Yorkers who made our stay so happy and memorable.

A week in New York

Guest: Claude and Catherine (Paris, France)
Date of Stay: 02/20/10 Review Submitted: 03/01/10

A good experience. As the weather was very cold we didn't have acces to the patio, the appartement is very well heated. (Some could think it's too mutch.)The Earthmatter shop donwstair was very helpful because my luggage had being lost by Alitalia, and arrived three days after. They phoned for me several times and received it when we were out, Very kindly. The only reserve is about kitchen: we enjoy preparing food and having meal in family as usual in Europe. There is only two chairs and no way of sitting four persons together around the table, and there was not enough glasses or spoons, but if you only use the microwave or the oven for pizzas in a box and use to drink cans, no problems...

Excellent value

Guest: Joe98 (Seattle, WA)
Date of Stay: 12/03/09 Review Submitted: 12/14/09

The apartment was as promised. It was quite clean, the bed in the bedroom was very comfortable, being in the back of the building the apartment was very quiet, the wireless internet worked great, the kitchen was reasonably well-stocked. Being right above the cafe made it very easy to pick up and drop off keys, etc. Marco (in the cafe) was very helpful, and always available if we needed anything. The neighborhood was great (though I'd avoid Katz's - it was a big disappointment). Our experience was quite satisfactory and, considering the price, space, and ammenities (compared to a standard hotel room in a comparable neighborhood), this was a terrific value. We'd definitely stay here again.

Owner response:thank you joe and you are most welcome again any time isaac

To all New York City lovers

Guest: Sanja. (Budapest, Hungary)
Date of Stay: 11/12/09 Review Submitted: 12/15/09

We just came back home to Budapest from an amassing experience we just had in New York. Besides all the wonderful things we had from a city experience as only NYC can offer, we were lucky to rent this apartment at the Lower East Side that hosted 5 of us girls from Europe and gave us all the comfort we needed. It was little small for 5 ladies, although I must say it can work out! The place was mint clean and was fully equipped with everything we needed to invite more friends for dinner and party. Great mattresses in 2 queen size beds internet and what not… Marco, the person who taken care of us was available 24/7. The poor guy, we looked for him even at 2 am one night, but had no problem solving our little issue we had. Organic café Earthmatters, at the ground floor was an experience of its own. There is much more to say about this place and I highly recommend for anyone to rent this apartment or any other they have in same building. It has an attached terrace where we had great private parties and on and on and on.... Just go there and enjoy great deal for great price. Thank you Isaac and Marco hope to see you there soon again. Sanja and the girls

Owner response:thank you sanja and and the girls :) . im realy happy you manage there all of you together and had great time, hope to see you all when ill be there my self some day , its nice to hear great things from people who enjoy our bed and breakfast operation on ludlow. isaac

Too Good to be True

Guest: TheMonk (Dallas, Tx)
Date of Stay: 10/05/09 Review Submitted: 10/29/09

Worst experience ever. The apartment was littered with cockroache egg sacks. We had to move out of the apartment and into a hotel.

Owner response: This costumer made the booking for his wife and aunt witch and up to be a lady with wheelchair and had serious difficulties to clime to second floor apt and canceled there reservation and did not pay there balance and left so they made up a story to the husband who end up taking them to hotel with elevator I guess, we do not have the man power to pick up someone 20 or more steps on daily bases up and down, we have this unite more then a year and never had any problems or complains about anything for sure not about roaches rather only good words for it and for the services we provide 24/7 to everyone, I was there my self with wife and 2 little kids this summer and it was perfectly clean and say no more, you welcome to ask for more emails of other costumers that have stayed at our apartments for personal contact to hear from them directly. thanks isaac

Doing the LES just right...

Guest: Carlos Visitoros (Seattle area)
Date of Stay: 02/13/09 Review Submitted: 02/27/09

The loca was great. Though just off of Houston, it was quiet. Comfy bed and linens, roomy living room, computer with internet. Was quite clean. Customer service was great as the keys were available downstairs at the great organic shop/cafe...breakfasts were tasty and served with a smile. Truly a home away from home...

Fantastic, genuine vacation rental

Guest: oxo0oxo (Sydney, Australia)
Date of Stay: 12/23/08 Review Submitted: 01/06/09

I was quite nervous booking a vacation rental in NY because I'd heard a lot about scams, but this is 100% genuine and overall a great place to stay. The location was FANTASTIC - on Ludlow St, right next to the famous Katz Deli and next to lots of nice bars/shops/restaurants and indeed on top of a lovely organic cafe. The place was very quiet as promised. The apartment itself was very nice - good temperature, computer and free internet access, nice kitchenette including kettle, lovely renovated bathroom. Everything was new (or newish) and clean. We had 5 people stay in the apartment, but I think it's probably better suited for 3, or 4 if there is a couple in the group - for our group, 2 people shared the nice double bed, a couple shared the sofa bed (quite small, like a king single bed size) and another person took the fold out bed. The breakfast from the organic cafe was good. The guy with plaits on either side of his head working in the mornings is super cool. Marco, the cafe and apartment owner (and neighbor) was extremely friendly, helpful, and responsive to requests. He was always around, so it was easy to ask him about the apartment. The only cons were: - air mattress for the first few nights, smallish sofa bed - better suited to 3 people - when we arrived, only 1 complete set of keys were available (until we cut another key - now 2 should be available) - one night the air con was on a steam setting, so for about 10 minutes, it made loud hissing noises - one night, the heating was a bit weird and the bedroom was cold, but that was fixed up quickly and before we went to bed - the shower had a strange hot water system (turning the handle away made it colder, not hotter), and sometimes the water was warm more than hot, or took quite a long time to heat up - weird door handle - you have to get used to turning it a very specific way to get it open. I never mastered it, but the others did. - not wheelchair accessible - there's no lift, so you have to carry your luggage up 1 flight of stairs I'd highly recommend this place for any group of 3 people, or 4 if there is a couple in the group. Thanks for everything! We really liked the place.
