Our 2 bedroom guest house is not just a "rental". It is a "home." -- Totally separate, private, sophisticated, quiet, one-of-a-kind, architecturally designed, light filled retreat on Honeycomb Ranch, a non-smoking property located less than a mile from downtown Nevada City in a "neighborhood" of 4 ranchettes, each 5 acres apart. Our guests consistently tell us they are delighted to discover our unique, peaceful and comfortable guest house. It is the perfect retreat/get-away for a couple or a couple of friends. The master bedroom is very large with a pillowtop kingsize mattress and a sliding glass door opening onto a deck with meadow and forest views. The furniture in the living room is extremely comfortable, the kitchen is equipped and the views from every window are beautiful. Just bring your suitcase. Everything else is provided to make your stay relaxing and fun.

Fall is just beginning! Nevada City is famous for its Fall foliage but you need not leave our property to see a multitude of trees with spectacular red, orange and yellow leaves all around you! Wake up to the sound of birds and end the night on the deck gazing at millions of stars. It is easy to unwind in this special home with its zen-like feel situated on 5 pastoral acres of open meadows, pine, oak and fruit trees, organic gardens and a picturesque old barn. Wonderful, easy country walks from your door abound and hiking is minutes away. Tucked away in a hidden place with such a rural feel, you will be amazed to find what a very short and easy walk it is past beautiful Victorians to the bustling, historic, charming Gold Country downtown of Nevada City. In combination with "Twin City" Grass Valley, 3 miles away, there is more than an abundance of great restaurants, world class live entertainment, shops, galleries and museums to keep you busy.

If you are parents or grandparents with family living here, it is the perfect spot. If you live in San Francisco and want to make a quick getaway, it is just a 2 1/2 hour drive. Reno is only an hour and 15 minutes away and Sacramento is just an hour. Easy drives to come to a "world away"! If you just need to get away and relax, now is the right time to come and experience the changing of the seasons! Weddings abound in our area from Spring to late Fall. If you are part of the wedding party or a guest coming from out of town, plan ahead and make your reservations now. Staying in our guest house instead of a hotel will make the event that much more memorable.

The Yuba River and Scotts Flat Lake are each only 10 minutes away and the North Shore of Lake Tahoe is an hour. This time of year the spectacular Yuba River is a beautiful place to hike or just settle in on a huge boulder and watch the water go by. Enjoy the solitude while kayaking on Scotts Flat Lake where it might only be you and hundreds of migrating birds that have stopped off for a rest.

If you like outdoor activities, relaxing, eating gourmet food, theater, musical events including classical music festivals that rival San Francisco and shopping in boutiques, and/or sitting quietly reading a book or meditating while watching birds soaring overhead, you will enjoy staying at Honeycomb Ranch while taking in all that Nevada County has to offer.

  • We enjoyed the fall foliage, especially the gorgeous red maple in the front yard. This was a treat for us since we live in Florida now. We appreciated having the Wi-Fi hookup, since we now take our computer with us on most of our travels. We were very happy there, even when the weather kept us indoors. The beds and bed linens are first-rate. The décor is charming. I particularly loved the sweet little Limoge pieces on the master bedroom dresser . We plan make this our headquarters when we visit our two daughters and their families who live in the area. The grandchildren loved the game console. The adults did, too, I must confess.   • If you ever have any plans to be in the Nevada City area, make sure that you contact Honeycomb Ranch. It is a charming guesthouse with all modern amenities. From the first greeting from Barley the dog, the deck view and serenity, the lovely atmosphere of the cottage as well as the little touches of home that made this a very special place.   • Does life get any better than a rocky road ice cream cone? We submit that it does not, and I have to tell you that was what we were thinking after spending a weekend in Nevada City celebrating our anniversary. Spending time on the Honeycomb Ranch with its peacefulness and solitude was an unexpected bonus to the wonderful accommodations offer by Nina & Mike. The "Granny" (as I have been told it is called by the family) exceeded all expectations of a great place to stay. We both loved the design and layout, not to mention how cozy everything was. While there was no cooking done over the weekend, I can see that it would be a great place to hide out from the world for a few days. My wife and I really liked it a lot.   • We stayed for 2 nights with my parents who were visiting from overseas. It's a beautiful guesthouse in a very peaceful area, not too far from town. The place was very clean and comfortable, and sitting out on the deck at night watching the stars made for a wonderfully relaxing weekend. Highly recommended.

  • The stay at Nina and Mike's guest house was one of the best I've even had. The house is beautiful and comfortable, with a well-stocked kitchen. I like to cook when I rent a cottage, and I had everything I needed to make meals, including grilling steak and veggies. There's a very private balcony overlooking a little meadow, where you can sit and look at the stars on a clear night. Nina and Mike are hospitable and helpful, and though they live next door and are always available, you have a sense of privacy and space. They even welcomed us with bowls of homegrown apples and tomatoes. Highly recommended.

  • What a wonderful getaway! We were only sorry not have more time to spend at this really lovely home away from home. This incredibly light and spacious guest house was the perfect place to stay in Nevada City: away from it all, but close to anything you could want. We'll definitely be back!
