We just returned from a wonderful four day stay at Honeyconb Ranch. Nina and Mike have created the perfect haven from which to explore the area. The cottage is so comfortable and relaxing and the designer touches are striking. They have provided everything you could need---just bring your clothes and a toothbrush!! We thoroughly enjoyed the deck and the grill came in handy. It was such a treat to see the deer in the meadow. We are looking forward to a return visit next spring

Very nice, clean, house in a beautiful, peaceful location. Listing photos and description were very accurate. A great place to stay while visiting Nevada City, Grass Valley area. Had fun in shops and restaurants and local historic sites. Also enjoyed just kickin it playing dominos at the house. Definately would go back and recommend to freinds and family.

This house is fantastic, I highly recommend it. The place is exactly like it looks in the pictures: beautiful, brand new and spotlessly clean. The view from the deck is gorgeous and the whole place is always quiet. The gas fireplace heats up the whole living area, it's fantastic. Mike and Nina are friendly, hospitable and available to answer any questions you may have but they aren't at all imposing or overbearing. The house is located very close to historic Nevada City and is also close to Highway 49 so it's easy to explore the area. It was our vacation home away from home and we'll definitely be back.

Honeycomb Ranch was the perfect spot for me and my husband to rendezvous with my son and his girlfriend over the holidays. The beautifully maintained and very clean cottage is the "just-right" size and configuration for two couples to spend time together, especially when there is so much to do nearby. The cottage is tucked away in a corner of Nevada City such that you feel you are far away -- but it's a quick walk into town for the evening. The cottage is cozy, and made more so on freezing evenings and mornings by a gas fire. The kitchen was perfectly equipped for the simple meals we prepared, but even accommodated Christmas dinner (butterflied leg of lamb, grilled on the back deck barbecue). Beds were fabulous, deep with comforters, and the bathroom was spacious and replete with linens. Nina couldn't have been more accommodating, giving excellent directions and ideas about what to do and where to go in the area. We enjoyed waking up to great views, taking morning walks, hiking near the Yuba, Christmas shopping in Grass Valley, then having a cozy dinner in Nevada City. Nighttime was totally silent, and the starts were amazing. We'll be back, hopefully this summer, so we can explore more.

This is a lovely guest house in a gorgeous, private setting. The house is very comfortable, with lots of light and great views of the property ( which is quite beautiful) It's an easy and pretty walk to downtown Nevada City. The owners are very nice and available for any needs or questions, but were utterly respectful of our privacy.

We spent a week here and didn't want to leave. The house is so very comfortable & clean and we never tired of looking at the changing leaves through the skylight. All a traveler could need has been anticipated, and the setting is private and beautiful. The owners are there when and if you need them but respect your space. Their dog Barley is a gentleman sweetheart. After a day of hiking and enjoying local history, we loved coming home to our special retreat. If you're serious about a visit to this area, book now before it's snapped up!

My significant other and I were looking for a quick, quiet, get-away at the end of September and found it at the Honeycomb Ranch. We enjoyed the wonderful atmosphere and view from the back deck, which included watching deer during the evening hours and admiring the stars at night. The guesthouse itself was absolutely clean and cozy. The walk into town was very pleasant and it was nice not having to find parking anywhere. Nina provided very helpful information and kept in good contact with us (via email), but was not intrusive at all. As a matter of fact, the only one we saw was their wonderful and friendly dog, Barley! I would highly recommend this place, as we’re already making plans to return next year.

The location was beautiful, quiet, surrounded by swaths of meadows ringed by a pine ridge, and complete with morning visits from Barley, the owner's (Nina's) sweet dog. The cottage is spacious, light, tastefully and sparely decorated, comfortable, with a great deck (with BBQ) overlooking valley and ridge. Yet Nevada City is only a few minutes drive. We stayed with our 1 1/2 year old, who reveled in everything, including an assortment of toys, as well as a large "bathing tub" Nina actually bought for our visit! She was the perfect host. We've stayed at many weekend places in Northern California, and this one was in the top two. It's gratifying that such a place exists.
Owner response:Thanks for your kind words! So, where is the other one you love? I want to go! Nina

This is such a lovely home in a beautiful part of Nevada City where one can enjoy expansive meadow views and complete serenity. My husband and I were so surprised at the modern design and light filled family room, kitchen and master bedroom. We didn't have another guest but the small bedroom was lovely as well. Everything was clean and fresh. I've already told several friends in my area about this locale. Instead of a day trip to Grass Valley and Nevada City, why not linger for a few days and enjoy all the restaurants and wineries they have to offer. Bring some good books.

This is the second year that we stayed in Nina and Mike’s wonderful house in the Nevada City area. The secluded house is behind their home and has its own private patio deck which overlooks a beautiful green field with a surrounding forest. One day a doe and two fawns were grazing below the deck. The deck is a quiet and peaceful place to have morning coffee. The owners give you your privacy but are also there if you need help with the house or directions to the many places to visit in the area. Our favorite place to eat is the Northridge Restaurant which is a half mile walking distance from the house. They have good hamburgers and pizza. Outside of Nevada City and Grass Valley fine restaurants we found a 50s/60s style restaurant called “The Willo Steak House” that serves great steaks. We also found a beautiful historic trail next to the Yuba River to take a walk or a good hike. The “Independence Trail” takes you in the old mining canal and across rebuilt plumes. Also be sure to get Barley treats from Nina. Barley is their dog and he is a big part of their Ranch. My wife and I miss Barley and Nina and Mike.
Owner response:We MISS you, too and hope to see you both again next summer! Nina

We just returned from over a week at Nina's FABULOUS guest house in Nevada City CA. It was perfect. We could walk to town, and go on hikes and bike rides directly from the house. The house itself was sparkling clean and lovely on the inside. We had every thinf we needed...and, since we were giving a wedding, we needed a lot! The only thing we couldn't find was a cookie sheet, so Nina just lent us hers! We were the envy of many who were staying in other rental places! We would return again in an instant!

The guest house is tucked away so if feels private (and stayed cool when it got hot). The layout inside was open and great for our toddler who loved to explore. We ate all of our meals out on the deck and enjoyed the views and the bird songs. Besides one big hill, it is an easy walk into town which is really convenient. We have been recommending this place to all of our friends, both those with kids and those looking for a romantic getaway.

This is a great house, and the pictures do not do it justice. I took notes on the plantings at the entrance of the house because everything was so beautiful. The house was spotless and amazingly well stocked...may be better than home! As for our arrival, I would agree with other reviewers to follow the owners' directions...not those on the internet. I grew up in this town and had difficulty with the Yahoo map directions. What you don't get from the VRBO website is that the deck, the larger bedroom, and the living room windows overlook a beautiful meadow. We saw three deer grazing right behind the house the first night we were there and while they saw us, they did not seem alarmed....just continued grazing. As for the general area, Nevada City is always fun, with great shops, and the Yuba River is stunning. Especially noteworthy is Barley. Barley, the "greeter-dog", is a true gentleman with a winning smile. How can you not love a dog that obviously makes an effort to smile?!! This is by far the best place I know to stay in the Nevada City area, and we will be back.

My husband and I stayed at Honeycomb Ranch for our 10 year anniversary celebration. I searched high and low for a place that I thought was worthy of such an event. I don't know the area very well and wanted to find a private, secluded place, but not too remote so it would be easy to get out and do things. After checking out the pictures on this sight, my expectations were very high and I was not disappointed. In fact I loved everything about it. It is clean, beautifully maintained, tastefully decorated, and the view was nourishing to the soul. I knew if I needed anything, Nina was available and would be helpful and friendly. I look forward to returning soon.

We truly enjoyed our stay at Nina and Mike's guest house. The home is beautiful and airy and all back windows overlook wild berry bushes and pine trees. The area is very quiet and peaceful. We really enjoyed watching the harvest moon rising each evening through same back windows. The home is extremely clean and has everything you need! Nina even gave us dog treats for their dog Barley who is their special greeter. About a half mile away we found a true gem, the Northridge restaurant which is a locals place with great food and friendly service. We will definitely stay here again, and have passed the word out to our friends and family as well.

My husband and I enjoyed a wonderful vacation staying at Nina's guest cottage. A few of the days we had some family with us as well, they loved the rural setting and we took many walks into town and around the area. We had everything we needed and Nina even supplied some toys for the kids! Kitchen and baths we're fully stocked and we much prefer cooking our own food when staying for a long visit. The deck was very relaxing and we enjoyed many meals and the peaceful surroundings. The living room is large and spacious, even though there was a TV, we never turned it on. We highly recommend the guest cottage for a relaxing rural setting for your vacation.

When we arrived the door was unlocked, and the cute little sign asked us to remove our shoes before entering. When we walked in there were our two keys waiting for us. We were pleased to see the floors were carpeted throughout. The beautiful interior of the house and the great view from the deck, were wonderful. The furniture was so inviting, so relaxing. In the kitchen the cabinets and refrigerator were stocked with items we were encouraged to enjoy. Here's something you don't always see. Everything was spotless! And those things that were supposed to work workked perfectly. Everything looked brand new! The owner, whom we never even saw, was easy to work with and so accomodative. By the way, follow the owners directions once you get to Nevada City. We didn't. We used google and were lost for half an hour, among the little country roads and homes. When we finally checked the owner's directions, which were sent to us, it was quick and easy. It's a guy thing, you know. Ladies listen up! This place has SO many nice touches. Trust me, you will not be disappointed. On our next visit to the Nevada City/Grass Valley area this home will be our first call.

We recently stayed at the Honeycomb Ranch while we were in town for the Amgen Tour of California cycling event. The home was even more beautiful than the pictures let on! Clean, modern, well-appointed and comfortable, the guest home was perfect for our family of four. The owners, Nina and Mike Snegg were very helpful before, during and after our stay, providing detailed information about Nevada City and the local restaurants and shops. At their recommendation, we dined at the New Moon Cafe and had a great meal. It could easily compete with any of the restaurants in SF. The only thing we would have changed would have been to extend the duration of our stay. We look forward to coming back soon!

Our stay at Honeycomb Ranch certainly exceeded our expectations. The guest home is lovely, clean, bright, cheery and tastefully decorated. We stayed here while visiting relatives who live in Grass Valley - and it was just a perfect setup for our family of four. We plan book future trips here around the availability of this guest home! Everything you read about in Nina/Mike's description is spot on - what you read is what you'll get = a designer home in a gorgeous setting. This rental property, for us, was like striking gold! :-)

We enjoyed the fall foliage, especially the gorgeous red maple in the front yard. This was a treat for us since we live in Florida now. We appreciated having the Wi-Fi hookup, since we now take our computer with us on most of our travels. We were very happy there, even when the weather kept us indoors. The beds and bed linens are first-rate. The décor is charming. I particularly loved the sweet little Limoge pieces on the master bedroom dresser . We plan make this our headquarters when we visit our two daughters and their families who live in the area. The grandchildren loved the game console. The adults did, too, I must confess. Does life get any better than a rocky road ice cream cone? We submit that it does not, and I have to tell you that was what we were thinking after spending a weekend in Nevada City celebrating our anniversary. Spending time on the Honeycomb Ranch with its peacefulness and solitude was an unexpected bonus to the wonderful accommodations offer by Nina & Mike. The "Granny" (as I have been told it is called by the family) exceeded all expectations of a great place to stay. We both loved the design and layout, not to mention how cozy everything was. While there was no cooking done over the weekend, I can see that it would be a great place to hide out from the world for a few days. My wife and I really liked it a lot. The stay at Nina and Mike's guest house was one of the best I've even had. The house is beautiful and comfortable, with a well-stocked kitchen. I like to cook when I rent a cottage, and I had everything I needed to make meals, including grilling steak and veggies. There's a very private balcony overlooking a little meadow, where you can sit and look at the stars on a clear night. Nina and Mike are hospitable and helpful, and though they live next door and are always available, you have a sense of privacy and space. They even welcomed us with bowls of homegrown apples and tomatoes. Highly recommended.

We were greeted by Nina and their affectionate dog, Barley and shown the house. The pictures of the house do not do it justice. It's very well equipped, the furniture is just what you would have in your own home and the quietness and beauty of the natural setting was top notch. Waiting for us was a welcome basket with a bottle of local wine and fruits/cheeses. Nina was vey helpful in giving us tips and ideas on how best to enjoy the area. Nina (the owner) was extremely thoughtful, and we were impressed by the spaciousness and quality of the furnishings. Someone commented that the photos don't do it justice. That was true, but Nina has updated the pictures and they do a better job now. Even still, photos don't completely communicate the charm and tranquility you will find there. P.S. This vacation rental was absolutely wonderful! Everything you need is in the home, from ironing board and iron to plenty of towels and extra linens. The home is just the right size for a relaxing getaway or simply a cozy alternative to staying in a hotel. If you’re visiting Nevada City or Grass Valley, or simply traveling through the area, the home is in a perfect spot! It only takes minutes to get to the main freeway but you feel like you’re staying miles away. The home is MUCH BETTER than the pictures on the website – sometimes it’s really hard to tell no matter how many pictures you see. The home has large, open ceilings which makes it feel very cozy and spacious. The kitchen is just the right size for bringing your own groceries and eating in. There are two rooms, one of which is quite larger than the other, so keep this in mind if you plan to use both rooms. However, you won’t feel like it’s a waste if you only use the master bedroom which is incredibly spacious and has a wonderful view out sliding glass doors of a spacious meadow. The bathroom has a shower without a tub, but it has comfy carpet and is quite large. The first thing that struck me about this place was that you wake up to a literal chorus of birds in song. We slept with the windows open and it was the most delightful way to wake up. I didn’t even sleep in because I just couldn’t miss the morning awakening around me. Sitting on the couch with a cup of tea and gazing out the many windows into the meadow while being serenaded by many different types of birds was wonderful and made me feel like I was on vacation from the start. There are plenty of great “thinking spots” on the property, whether you want to sit in the middle of a meadow, relax by a beautifully landscaped pond, or enjoy the sunset on your own very spacious patio. There are other houses around which at first you might wonder about the solitude of the place, but once you are settled in you’ll find that the home is perfectly situated. There is a gas fireplace if you accidentally leave all the windows open on a chilly night and wake up wanting a fire like we did. =) And there’s a large TV in the living room with plenty of channels. And who could ask for better hosts? Nina was wonderful. Her attentiveness and preparation was extremely apparent and she made herself very available and never intrusive. Her and her husband have great recommendations about where to eat and what to do in the area, I suggest to skip trying t

The surrounding area, viewed from the deck with a steaming cup of coffee, bring peace and lure you to explore the area. Nevada City and the Yuba River are right there to enjoy, even if it's difficult to leave such a wonderful haven. I look forward to my next stay and highly recommend this gem to all.

This fabulous cottage in a beautiful neighborhood should not be overlooked! The setting is intoxicating and private. The owner has taken care to create a very comfortable stay with all the sophisticated artisitic touches you'd find in a private home. All amenities are available in the cottage and the proximity to quaint downtown Nevada City allows a beautiful walk into town. I would definitely recommend this gem to anyone!

This beautiful and comfortable guest house has been like my home-away-from home for the last fifteen years. Breathtaking grounds and views, comfy beds and sofas, and everything I've needed to relax, enjoy family and friends, and commune with nature are right here, with town only five minutes away. Treat yourself to this wonderful retreat...and experience Nevada County at its best.

We have stayed in this cozy cottage many times and truly love it! Quiet and secluded, yet close to town, you'll feel like you're at your own personal retreat. The central living area is spacious and light with plenty of comfy furniture. The kitchen is well stocked and everything that you may need is there. I can't imagine finding a nicer place to call home for a weekend or a month.

My husband, daughter and I were so lucky to stay in this guest house for 6 weeks. We were waiting for our home to be built and stressed about moving. As soon as we entered this beautiful, serene place, we relaxed. It was quiet, the deck and windows look out on an amazing meadow and forest. We were so cozy that the weeks flew by. This guest house will always have a magical place in my heart and anyone would be lucky to stay here.

My husband and I stay at this home every chance we get. The best word for the house and the grounds is "delicious"! Year-round this is a little piece of heaven.
