Our family of four, as well as our kids' auntie, just spent 9 days at Hale I Ke Kai. We found the house to be very clean, comfortable and suitable for us. It became our home away from home! The directions were thorough and easy to find from the airport. John and Cheryl and family were perfect hosts and made us feel welcome to stay at the house. It really helped that they live right next door! The front and back yards, as it shows in the pictures, have lots of foliage and makes it comfortable to sit at the patio table. The pictures show the open, airy rooms, just as they really are. We loved the feeling of experiencing Hawaii in a more unique way, rather than staying in a hotel. We would definitely recommend Hale I Ke Kai to friends and relatives. All in all it was a wonderful vacation, their hospitality helped make it that way!

My family and I really enjoyed our stay here. The house and it's history was everything we were looking for. The vibe and energy of the house are a product of owners Cheryl and John. They were very warm, friendly and always available if we had any concerns. The house itself was very well stocked for our family who likes to cook at home. The beach closet has everything you need to have a great day at the beach. The grounds include fruit trees and grassy areas to play in and the Portuguese horsehoes is a great game. The neighborhood is really for locals and away from the tourist feel. Their is beach access less than a stones throw and other beaches not to far from this house. Kapolei has all the conveniences of the mainland a short drive away. We hope to return to this home in the future.

Our family recently spent 10 days at Hale I Ke Kai and found it to be truly a 'home away from home'. We thoroughly enjoyed hanging out in the bright inviting living room. The well stocked kitchen and backyard grill provided us the opportunity to prepare meals at home nearly every evening. Cheryl and John were so accommodating offering beach and surfing gear as well as bikes and basketballs. They were always willing to help with anything to make our stay pleasant. We saw some incredible sunsets on the beach that was literally a 3 minute walk away. One comment was has nothing to do with the house itself was that there is a shooting range nearby which usually could be heard as early as 7am. It didn't diminish our enjoyment during our time there - just something to be aware of.

Attended a soccer tournament in Honolulu and stayed here with teammates. Very friendly hostess; fruit bowl filled on arrival, fruit trees in the back yard. Older neighborhood is quiet and a short walk to a sandy beach. We scrimmaged at a City park a few blocks away. We hosted a breakfast for the whole team and wives one morning. There was plenty of room for all. Cheryl, our hostess, was readily available with information and responsive to any requests. The location is an easy drive to the North Shore. Costco is down the road past an historic railroad restoration site. You are not close to Waikiki (and that might be a good thing). But you have a head start to getting to the Polynesian Cultural Center and the quieter end of the island. Also, you are very near Pearl Harbor. Stay here and you have a great starting place for experiencing some of Oahu's more interesting attractions. Best part for me was receiving an email indicating that someone had left a "valuable" at the house. I emailed back indicating that I was missing a money clip. A quick confirmation found my money clip arriving via mail a few days later. Friendly AND honest. Nice!

Our trip to visit the island Ohana was made complete with our beach side home. Relaxing, worry-free days with all the amenities you would need. And if you think of anything, your gracious hosts, Cheryl and John are just a phone call away. Thank you for a wonderful vacation to reconnect with family and just enjoy the beauty of Hawaii.

This is the perfect place if you want to be off the beaten path, but central to both the North shore and Honolulu. Very comfortable and cosy. We had 10 women and there was plenty of room for all. Great back yard for sitting around in the evening. Cheryl and John and their daughters welcomed us into their family. Thank you Cheryl for sharing your precious mangos! Lots of beach toys and towels and coolers to make for easy fun at the beach. I would highly recommend this place!

What a great time we all had at Ewa Beach and on Oahu for a week in April 2011. This is a great location, with excellent weather conditions on the leeward side of the island, and near enough to all the major attractions with all the necessary amenities close-by. This was an ideal spot for parents to bring their four “twenty something” kids. The house was spacious and we spent lots of time on the patio in the backyard. Cheryl and John and their kids were amazing neighbours/owners helping us with everything from advice for shopping and sightseeing to suggestions for the best places for swimming and surfing. And we definitely appreciated all the extra surprises that were included with the house.

Coming from frigid temps in the Midwest to the absolute beauty of Oahu was a welcome sight. The warmth of the weather was terrific, but the warmth of our hosts made for a wonderful first-time Hawaii experience! It was a convenient location with easy access to the beach and away from the city traffic and congestion of Honolulu. We enjoyed having a home away from home.

My dad was sent to O'ahu for a medical procedure. Since we live on the Big Island out in the country, he did not want to stay in Waikiki - were majority of the hotel are located. After searching the internet I can acorss Cheryl and John's place, who accomodated us with everything we needed. This was so important to me because my dad needed a place to rest and be "at home". They had everything that was needed and a lot more. There home felt very safe and very peaceful. Cheryl and John go above and beyond to make our stay as pleasant as possible. It was really great getting to know them more as they stopped by to "talk story" and even greater to have had the chance to attend mass with the Dietz family. I would highly recommend staying here and we know where we will stay the next time we visit O'ahu. Mahalo nui loa Dietz 'Ohana!

We had a most wonderful vacation! We appreciated your lovely home; the proximity to the beach; all the sunshine, flowers, trees, birds, bright blue skies - - all that makes Hawaii so memorable. But above all, we appreciated your generous solicitude in seeing to our comfort and enjoyment. You are truly marvelous hosts. Thank you John and Cheryl!!

Cheryl and John were more than helpful and happy to provide any information that we needed. It is not far from shops and the perfect place for a relaxing beach holiday. Thanks again

Cheryl and John have a perfect little rental house. They live next door with their kids and this house is really an extension of their home. While there I felt like I was an honored guest and even part of an extended family. The house has everything you need to be comfortable. A car is required if you want to see the island but the beach at Ewa is as nice as any. Lovely view of Diamond Head. If you want high prices and the tourist trap feel, this is not for you. An affordable vacation with a real Hawaiian family, in a charming neighborhood is what you can expect at Ewa Beach. Mahalo guys and keep singing Sushi. You have a talent.

Our family visited Hawaii from Australia and Indiana to spend Christmas together in 2010. We were looking for a house to accommodate five adults comfortably and we found exactly what we were looking for. The house was spotlessly clean, well equipped, very comfortable and located near the attractions and activities we were interested in. The most impressive aspect of the home however is the hospitality of our hosts, Cheryl and John Dietz and family. We can personally attest to the comments in former reviews regarding their hospitality and helpfulness. Understanding that we were travelling a long way to celebrate Christmas together, they organised a beautiful Christmas tree, with lights and decorations to make our stay special. This, on top a warm welcome, a beautiful "gift basket" on arrival, and assistance with luggage, they made our stay, and our Christmas, very real and personal. Our experience of Hale I Ke Kai was of genuine comfort, warmth and hospitality which leaves a very favourable impression of the people of Hawaii. Mahalo Cheryl and John!

This was our familys first time to the Island of Oahu and it wont be our last! This was our home away from home. Our visit was from Oct. 10-30th.2010. The house had everything we needed and made our stay more enjoyable. we easily found our way around, and even though it was a business trip we had time to site see. We cant thank the owners of the house enough for making us feel so welcome, helping us out if ever we needed anything. Renting a house is definitely the way to go!!! The whole property was always neat and clean. It was everything we expected. Thanks a million again for everything!!!!!!!!! The Luker Family

Our group consisted of my sister and brother inlaw, my wife and myself, and our oldest granddaughter for her highschool graduation gift. The helpful attitude started long before we left our homes , or started the trip. The owners were ready to help with information on cultural programs, places to eat ,which beaches were the best, and other activities that were taking place on the island. The home was perfectly maintained and was very well equiped ,which made this vacation very relaxing and enjoyable. We would recommend this home to any of my family or friends, it was as advertised, and there were many extras that were nice to have made available (beach chairs, boogie boards, snorkeling gear.) The one thing that we found especially nice was how warm and personable, and friendly the owners (The whole family) was.

This house was the best ever.... I dont even know where to start, my friend got married at Ko Olina and the wedding party stay at Hale I Ke Kai. There was 7 of us there and it was not crowded at all. I wish our kids were there to enjoy the beach with us. There are beach toys and beach chairs for you to take to the beach which is about a 1 min walk across the street. The beach is almost private. When were were laying out there were not many people there. The guys went on a fishing trip caught mahi and will grilled it in the back yard. We were not quite guest and got no complaints! If anyone has questions like I did when I first booked you can email me abriacelena@yahoo.com. I hope we can go back soon with my children!

The place was great, comfortable, and more than large enough for my extended family of (9). Staying in a local home was so much better than staying at a hotel as there was a great backyard, nice vegetation, full kitchen, bar-b-que, and all the conveniences of home (coolers, beach chairs, kids sand toys, etc.). This location, near the beach, was perfect as my grandchildren had a great time playing in the water and got their first taste of boogie boarding. I got a few priceless videos of them frolicking in the surf. We were also able to have a great bar-b-que and the back yard was perfect as there was plenty of room for all our friends and relatives. The trees and the patio area were perfect for shade. The weather was perfect, not hot at all, and daily passing showers reminded us of home. Maybe we brought a little moisture with us from home. The breadfruit and mango trees were a plus since they were both in season and we had a chance to experience their great flavor. The Hawaiian hospitable was great that it felt like they were not only opening their home but themselves to us, really showing the ALOHA spirit of Hawaii. The location was great as we were away from the traffic and hustle of Waikiki and downtown Honolulu. There are theaters, a Costco, and a number of shopping areas close by.

Just when you thought living in Hawaii couldn't get any better. Spending only a weekend at the Hale I Ke Kai was such an astonishing experience! It was truly, “a home away from home.” I was so overwhelmed with all the utilities, the peaceful ambiance, the convenient access to the beach, and the constant pampering by John & Cheryl. From this day on, any Waikiki hotel is overrated to me. I highly recommend anyone and everyone, to arrange their stay in Hawaii with Hale I Ke Kai. Thank you so much for having us! I stayed there with my family for a weekend & can confirm that all the comments about Hale I Ke Kai is true. Upon entering, we could tell that we weren't just staying at a rental, but that we would be making a home out of it. It was immaculately clean and fresh and everything was well in order. The well stocked kitchen allowed us to save money by preparing all our meals. The living area included enough seating for my whole family, along with a flat screen TV and an assortment of DVD's which gave the young ones a lot of entertainment. The house came with a washer and dryer. We could just return from the beach and do our laundry instead of having to travel to a laundromat or pay like you would in a hotel. The large, tranquil backyard gave us lots of space to run around and even allowed us set-up a pool for the little ones. And because it was fully fenced, we could safely allow the kids to explore the nature. We spent the evenings under the gazebo, just relaxing in the moonlight. We were also able to utilize the gas grill provided for us to have a BBQ dinner everyone enjoyed. Then after a long day, exhausted and full, we led ourselves to the comfortable queen size beds for some much needed rest. Another great thing was the abundance of parking. We didn't have to pay or search for parking as you would in Waikiki or at any other hotel. The carport allowed us to park 4 cars with more space along the property to park 4 more vehicles. When we had visitors, they had no problem finding a place to park. The absolute best part of our stay was just being with family and not worrying about anything. John, Cheryl & their 3 daughters allowed my family to have a mini-retreat and made us feel like we were the most important people in the world, even if for just a weekend. They catered to our every need and although they didn't miss a thing when it came to accommodations, they still inquired with us if they could do anything else for us. You can just feel the genuine love that this family has for their guests, whom they befriend and welcome as their own ohana. In the way they prepared their home for our stay to how they offered to assist us in anything we did. And should anything come up or if we needed anything, they were a holler away because they lived right next door. Staying at Hale I Ke Kai was so much better than renting a room at the Hilton or Marriott. It was so much more personable and cozy, unlike the cold hotel rooms we have stayed at in th

My family and I had the pleasure to stay at Hale I Ke Kai for three weeks and needless to say we were all in tears the day that we had to leave. John and Cheryl and their three beautiful daughters made our vacation a "trip to heaven." ( I have to refer to our vacation photo album to make sure that I wasn't "just dreaming." )Both my husband and I are seasoned travelers and yet I have never experienced such hospitality and sincerity to accomodate others than I have with John and Cheryl. They exemplify the true meaning of the "Aloha Spirit." The house itself is beautifully decorated in traditional " Hawaiiana style" and every detail has been meticulously considered. The house was immaculately cleaned and the kitchen was completely stocked for any type of meal preparation. ( For breakfast we enjoyed picking a mango off of the tree in the back yard ---who could ask for more ? ) In the evenings we treasured the light of the moon on the secluded ( and safe) beach. This is the only REAL way to experience Hawaii !! My family and I can't wait to go back to our see our "Ohana" family at Hale I Ke Kai and I would definately recommend it to anyone who prefers the "salt of the earth" over a sterile cookie cutter hotel room.

Cheryl and Jon took great care of my family when they stayed here! We had a horrible experience with another vacation rental, and Cheryl and her family moved mountains to let us rent their house at the very last minute. It has been a long time since I have encountered such caring, hospitable folks. The house was immaculately clean (I'm talking sterile, smelling of yummy lemon), fully stocked, and beautifully decorated. The back and front yards were very well cared for. Really, we could not have been happier- it was a huge load off me and my fiance's minds knowing that my family was being cared for. Thank you Cheryl and family for the fantastic experience, we will be seeing you again!

Cheryl saved our vacation! We had originally booked a rental on a golf course nearby that turned out to be a filthy mess and the idea of asking my 10 month old grand daughter and 80 year old mother to stay there was truly depressing. Cheryl cleaned up her place and we moved in at 9:30 at night. Walking into her place was like a breath of fresh air: besides being spotless, it was beautifully designed with thoughtful touches everywhere. I could not recommend it more highly!
