Grass Valley house description
Built in 1888, our cozy Victorian has been completely updated and is just around the corner from historic downtown Grass Valley. The spacious living/dining/kitchen area is perfect for entertaining, is fully equipped and furnished with warm oak furniture. The two small bedrooms are comfortable, beds and linens are of excellent quality. The king bedroom has its own half-bath and a sliding glass door leading to a lovely deck and a brick patio which is surrounded by camellias and azaleas. The neighborhood is quiet and you can enjoy the sounds of birds in the peaceful back yard or choose to relax on the front porch after your day of exploring and shopping.
Grass Valley offers a wide variety of events throughout the year and you can always take advantage of nearby gold mines (California's largest gold mine is 10 minutes away), bike riding trails, museums, galleries, theaters, wine tasting, fishing, local entertainment, excellent restaurants, and the neighboring gold-rush towns of Nevada City and Downieville.

I've stayed at this wonderful place three times and can't wait to return. The furnishings are lovely and personal. The house is always spotless and equipped with all the necessary amenities and many more. The location could not be better, literally one block from downtown. It's the perfect place to just hang out on the porch or in the back yard, or to take off for nature walks, historic sites and Nevada City. Fabulous!

The Perfect Place
We loved staying in your little Victorian. You have all the comforts of home. I wanted to let you know that one of your chairs needs a little TLC. It's the larger chair that matches the table set. Your neighbors were all so nice. One gave us some veg's from their garden..........:) My aunt and uncle live in Grass Valley, and hope/plan on using your home when their children come to visit. It is the perfect place. Thanks again.

This was the second time we rented this house for our sister fest and it was like coming home. Such a wonderful cottage in a quiet neighborhood, but close enough to walk in to town. We will be renting this little gem on n annual basis!

Hi Sondra, Love this place...the location as well as the enjoyment of all your beautiful memories in the lovely ceramics and other interior decorations. Wish we'd discovered your house years ago. Can we book for the same time next year please?

Such a comfort....
Hello Sondra, I can't tell you how much we enjoyed your Little Victorian. It was such a comfort to have everything we could imagine needing available-even the yellow thread Lauren needed to mend a button on her shorts! When we were able to move into the Little Victorian, it was such a relief to rest and be refreshed. I feel like I know you now Sondra, just in the way you decorated and maintain the home. You'll get a kick out of the fact that Nathan especially enjoyed using the Cal drinking mug--Go Bears! It was a pleasure to be your guest and I hope you'll allow us to rent from you again.

Sondra, We LOVED staying at the the little Victorian! The iris and tulips are in bloom in the charming garden areas and the weather couldn't have been more perfect. Your house was the best guest friendly home we have stayed in through Homeaway. My husband has food allergies so we use Homeaway quite a bit so I can cook for him. What a well stocked kitchen! I can tell this house isn't just an investment property but a loved home. Thank you for thoughtful preparations and yes, I did read the historic newspaper article behind the front door. Thank you again- it was a great birthday.

Perfect for a much needed getaway!
Perfect for a much needed getaway!
My thoughts are still with this beautiful, well equipped little Victorian! We own and run a B&B in Mendocino, and this last minute getaway was just what we needed! In fact, we loved it so much we stayed an extra night. My husband and I traveled to Grass Valley with one of my sisters and her husband from southern Utah, to meet another sister from Nebraska who was staying in the area with her daughter and brand new granddaughter. We had a much needed sister reunion! It's ideally located with just a short stroll to many of the shops, restaurants and entertainment in Grass Valley. In fact, I found the perfect dresser for one of my guest rooms at a nearby antique store. Only one warning; the Chocolatier is addicting! Thanks Sondra, and don't change a thing . . . because we may be back!

This charming house is cozy and comfortable. We found the kitchen well equipped and we prepared a number of meals there, as well as holiday baking. The house clean and organized - with plenty of towels and nice linens; the washer and dryer were very helpful. The location of the house is very convenient to town and there's a wonderful cafe just a couple blocks down on Richardson Street. My daughters and I spent 10 days here and would definitely like to return.

lovely home, incredible location
lovely home, incredible location
Our family of three spend the weekend in Grass Valley at this cozy, well-appointed Victorian, literally one block from the adorable downtown Main Street. The home was exactly as described, with everything we needed, including plenty of books, games and movies for downtime. Second bedroom had enough room to set up our daughter's pack + play. Outdoor spaces are lovely. The location is perfect if you want to walk to all that downtown has to offer, but also be within driving distance of Nevada City and the Yuba River. There was a neighbor who played the drums during the day, but we were mostly out and about, so it wasn't much of a problem for us (baby slept right through it during nap time). Neighborhood was very quiet and peaceful at night. Owner was a pleasure to work with and offered us plenty of suggestions for activities to do with a young child in tow. Would definitely rent this home again!

Lovely houseGuest comment entered by owner
We love the Little Victorian and had a wonderful visit. The hot weather felt very nice as a contrast to the weather we had left in Victoria (60 to 65 degrees). Your house is lovely and so nicely furnished and had everything we possibly needed. We have seven more nieces and nephews in the area and hope they all have their weddings in Grass Valley. We will definitely contact you for the next one - hopefully next summer. We will also tell our friends about your Little Victorian.

Year Purchased: 2007
About the owner: My husband and I are both retired and we bought this house after having visited Grass Valley a number of times to explore the area, fish in the many nearby lakes, and relax in the warmth of a small community. We have found that we are not able to take advantage of the house as often as we had planned and are now happy to offer it for short-term rentals.
Why the Owner Chose Grass Valley:
Grass Valley is known for its quality of life and we can see why. Everyone you meet is friendly and welcoming, the community is actively involved in social and environmental issues, and the foothill setting is beautiful. The choice of activities within an hour's drive is endless and a day spent at home in the Little Victorian is priceless.
