You will feel like you own your own ranch in the heart of the Old West
This rental is a very unique and limited opportunity. Only one family or group will be able to take advantage of this offer at a time. It is like a B&B but you have the place to yourself.
The ranch is in the heart of the Old West with numerous rivers and lakes nearby. The McCloud river (45 min.), The Upper Sacramento (15 min.), The Klamath (45 min.), the Trinity River (45 min.),the Pit River and Hat Creek (about one hour). Our on-site ponds abound in trophy size trout. A gin clear, spring creek, full of trout runs for 1 3/4 miles through the property. While extremely private, the ranch is less than five minutes from Interstate 5, and 10 minutes from the Weed airport.
If you want a secluded, and beautiful home base from which to explore Northern California and Southern Oregon this is an excellent venue.
The house lies at the end of a mile long dirt private country driveway. This secluded mountain valley provides spectacular views in all directions. I often sit outside with a cup of tea or a cold drink and watch the views and wildlife for hours. If you are an artist or bird watcher you will be captivated. The lighting is fantastic.
Heinz is the ranch host. He is friendly and a delight to have about. He will shop, cook and clean up for you most evenings. He grinds and brews fresh coffee in the morning to be served with your breakfast. If you buy the groceries or give him the money, he will shop and cook dinners and breakfast for you, if arranged in advance (this means, just ask him).
If you prefer total privacy we may be able to arrange for Heinz to stay elsewhere and provide limited service, but you need to let us know well in advance so he can arrange housing. I prefer Heinz at the house, helping with meals, shopping, cleaning.
A small horse and cattle operation is run by a local cowboy who is also a policeman in town. His occasional presence will help to guard your privacy and add a layer of security. Both Bill (the policeman/cowboy) and Heinz know the area very well and can provide excellent information about the regions extensive recreational opportunities.
There is a newly remodled main bathroom and an extra toilet in the laundry room area.

Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Year Purchased: 1997
To own a trout fishing property has always been my dream. I never expected to find such a perfect location. I am an engineering consultant and expert witness. The Residual job stress melts away with each day at the ranch. While I have traveled the world, no place is more relaxing than a stay here at the ranch. I am married with three kids. My family loves our ranch vacations. We live in Southern California in the mountains above Santa Barbara. In the winters we come to the ranch to ski and board at Mount Shasta Ski Park, less than 30 minutes away.
Why the Owner Chose Edgewood
Siskiyou county is at the heart of one of the best fishing, hiking and biking areas in the world. The air is clean and the sky blue. This area still holds the flavor or the Old American West. The small town honesty and hospitality are reminiscent of the values upon which the country was founded. If you want to get away from the stress of everyday life this is the place.
The Unique Benefits of this House
Seclusion and solitude prevail in a natural setting with the convenience of a town and Interstate freeway nearby. Crater Lake, Lava Beds National Monument and numerous other natural wonders make convenient day trips. This ranch is perfect for the family that loves the natural outdoors but wants to sleep comfortably indoors. Nearby museums and antique stores reflect the mystique of our American frontier days. The nearby town of Weed was established as a logging town. Other nearby towns sprang up with the great California gold rush.

Thanks for an incredibly relaxing time at the ranch! Armed with Bill's lists of things to do and Heinz's suggestions, we took the kids (ages 4-9) to Hege Falls, went wild boating & tubing on Shasta Lake, my husband learned to fly-fish with Wayne on the pond, we had lunch at Dunsmuir Brewery, caught grasshoppers on the way to the Ranch ponds, visited the day-trip worthy Turtle Bay Park & Sundial Bridge in Redding... but mostly, just stared at the snow-capped peaks, rocked in the hammock and played chase in the front yard. The views on the property are mind-blowing. Our son thought he could see "half of California from here!" And we agreed. Bill was eager to help make our trip memorable. Heinz helped us settle in so quickly. He is a wonderful dinner guest, salad maker, and co-philosopher. The ranch house is spare but more than comfortable for a long stay. Highly recommend this spot for anyone looking for a quintessential California get-away.

Bill, I've finally had a moment to breath since our wonderful vacation on your family ranch. Just wanted to say thanks for your flexibility on many issues and tell you that that was the most fun I've had on a vacation in quite some time. The proximity and hassle free trek to great fishing, the incredible views from each window in the house and the daytrips to Siskiyou Lake and Crater Lake will always be part of our family experience. To see my eldest FINALLY catch a trout was surprisingly joyful. He jumped up and down like a 5 yo. ~Priceless.

This is a paradise if you want to get away from it all! Fishing, hiking and swimming were all right there at the farm. I spent most of the day lying in the hammock, gazing at snow covered Mt. Shasta, pondering what I would do next. Did I forget to mention I caught an albacore sized trout in the pond! We will return next summer!

Bill, Where can I start?? THANK YOU VERY MUCH! Our vacation was amazing. Your place is indescribable and fantastic! Heinz took very good care of us and we grew quite fond of him quickly. He's a keeper!!! Heinz volunteered to take us fishing at the pond and it was perfect. We're not experienced "fisher people" and it was more than enough to go to the pond with him, catch 2 lovely trout and release them. Our son, Patrick was excited beyond belief about catching the fish and holding them in the net for a minute. We went down at the end of the day. Bill was rustling the cattle with his dog, there was a family of geese at the pond, the birds were singing very loudly, the sky was a reddish orange and the moon was almost full. It was fantastic looking up at the mountain while hearing and seeing such beautiful sights and sounds. It was absolutely stunning and one of the highlights of our trip! Another highlight of the trip was when we first pulled up at your place. We put on our water shoes and sloshed down to the pond as a group. Everyone was so excited to see such a beautiful place. Within the first half hour Patrick was probably as happy as I'd ever seen him. It was magic. He's a true nature boy and loved our entire stay there. We took a bike ride each day. The first day we attempted to ride up the ridge across from the front door of the house. That was steep!! All of the other days we rode the Hoy Road loop. It was so beautiful! We ran into horses, lots of cattle, a snake, and our favorite things to see while we rode were the peacocks. We loved hearing them yell out to announce our approach. It was fun! The Hoy Road loop is so beautiful - it reminds me of "The Ponderosa". I'm attaching a few pictures from our adventures. We also loved watching the swallows in their nest on your front porch. The parents would come up and feed them and care for them. I could sit there all day watching them, reading a book and drinking tea. To me that was true luxury! We didn't go very far on hikes - mostly just along the ridge or the road near your house. Didn't really have to go far because everywhere we went was beautiful. We made the decision that once we got there we didn't need to go anywhere else. We just enjoyed where we were and it was perfect. If you are seriously considering renting it out in the future we are definitely interested in renting from you. It is the perfect destination
