Why the Owner Chose Sunnyside
Mark Twain said, "...I thought it must surely be the fairest picture the whole world affords." when he first laid eyes on Lake Tahoe. We couldn't agree more. The mountain location allows young and old alike to enjoy a beautiful, peaceful and adventurous vacation.
The Unique Benefits at this House
You are walking distance to the beach in the summer and the Alpine Meadow shuttle picks you up at driveway for skiing in the winter. Tahoe City is a quick drive and you are walking distance to two popular restaurants and a market. A variety of hiking and biking trails can be accessed just out the back door. Ruby's Retreat offers many entertainment options to help you weather any storm, such as a DVD or book library as well as many fun games to choose from. In front of the wood fireplace is the perfect spot to snuggle up on a stormy day. With an eye on "green building" we used mostly reclaimed lumber for our remodel. This allows for the modern conveniences of today with a unique and rustic Tahoe feel. Wireless Internet will keep you connected, but you feel miles away from it all nestled in the trees.

Best Summer Vacation 2011 at Ruby's Retreat

This was our first visit to Tahoe and we decided to rent on the West Shore at the recommendation of a friend that grew up in the area. Ruby's Retreat was perfect. A beautiful home that is much prettier in real life than the pictures, we loved everything about the place. The location is great - easy walk down the road to Sunnyside with its small market (that had everything we had forgotten, including fresh tomatoes for salad), assorted restaurants, and lovely private beach with lots of grass and shade. We brought our own bicycles and could get right on the paved bike trail located close by. We were also conveniently located in between Incline Village and South Lake Tahoe and took easy day trips in both directions to visit beaches and hike the various trails with their spectacular scenery. The property was super clean when we checked in and the owners were extremely responsive and attentive to our questions; and I had a lot, being our first visit to the area. This is a great house for two small families - three bedrooms that sleep two each (one is a bunk bed room), but we did manage to double up some teens on the king-sized pull out sofa in the gorgeous great room upstairs. The outdoor fireplace was a real treat and we ate our dinners each night on the deck in front of the fire, as it gets quite chilly once the sun goes down, even in August. Beautifully renovated, we enjoyed the 'log cabin' feel downstairs and the open, airy mountain home feel upstairs with huge windows, soaring ceilings, bamboo flooring and comfortable and contemporary furnishings. We also enjoyed the hot tub immensely. All in all a great week and a great vacation home!

Wonderful October stay at Ruby's

Thoroughly enjoyed spending several days at Ruby's in the fall. The house was perfect for 3 couples; 3 full bathrooms is a definite plus. Also, the radiant heating in the floors was absolutely wonderful, considering the mornings and evenings get a bit chilly in October. This home has been recently remodeled with outstanding upgrades. Kitchen was really well equipped. I felt like I was sleeping in a treehouse in the upstairs master bedroom. Woke up to trees and sunshine each morning. Loved it. Used the outside and inside fire places constantly. Was nice that we could bring our dog along too! I personally loved being so close to the bike path; just down the street. Owners, Dawn and Franz were very responsive when contacted. New hot tub is a nice addition. We're definitely hoping to return sometime next year. Would definitely recommend.

Loved our stay at Ruby's Retreat. Everything was as described. Dealing with Dawn was a pleasure beyond words. She answered ALL my emails promptly and provided the necessary information to make our stay a pleasurable one. The property was very clean and well-maintained. The location was so convenient for us as we enjoyed several day hikes in the proximity of the home. Oh, and we highly recommend The Fire Sign for breakfast. And, it's a beautiful 6 mile round trip walk to Tahoe City. My idea of a heavenly vacation. Thanks, Dawn, for sharing your home. We loved it and our dogs did, too!

Ruby's retreat was a great location for our three week stay in Tahoe. The house was perfect for a constant stream of guests coming and going. We loved coffee and cocktails on the deck and the private beach was excellent. Also, we took full advantage of the Sunnyside amenities. The owner's are wonderful and very responsive. We can't wait to go back.

Our family sold our Tahoe home of 44 years that we grew up spending summers and winters enjoying boating,, beach and lots of skiing. After a few years of mourning I was determinded to find another place we could bring our kids, family and friends up to year after year to enjoy the many spledors of Tahoe! We found it at Ruby's!! Well appointed, great location, real easy to communicate with the owners! This was perfect for us!! Can't wait to get back!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Ruby's Retreat. The house was great and the location is incredible. We brought our two small dogs and they loved the walks to Ward Creek. The house had wonderful amenities and the access to the private beach made it even more special. This was by far the best vacation we ever had in Tahoe. We would definitely stay again at Ruby's Retreat and would recommend it to anyone! Thanks to Dawn and Franz for making us feel at "home"! The Wooottons

We loved staying at Ruby's Retreat. It is a beautiful, recently remodeled cabin very close to Sunnyside Resort and bike trail. The cabin provided plenty of space for our two families, especially since we have "teenagers". Everything was in good condition and working order. We hope to return!

Ruby's Retreat was nothing short of fantastic for our recent July 4th stay in Lake Tahoe. We've stayed in Lake Tahoe many times (and most of us having grown up or lived there) and the West Shore is our favorite summer locale. Ruby's is about a 3-minute walk to the beach, Sunnyside and Firesign Cafe, making the location tough to beat. Ruby's has a great floorplan with a TV room, bedroom, dining area and kitchen downstairs, and two bedrooms plus large, airy living area up. There's also a large deck in the front yard where we spent most of our time. The house has a great Tahoe feel with nice furniture, and is well appointed for stays. We'd highly recommend Ruby's retreat and have already penciled in our dates for next year!
